I'm 50 and work with a lot of younger women including teenagers. What language can I embarrass them by using?
I remember to Yeet things rather than throw them. Are things still lit? Ideally AF? Any other good ones?

Use aura instead of rizz.

noblegiraffe · 01/10/2025 20:10

A kid crashed out at me today and I said 'it's just not that deep'.

And then his mate leaned over and said 'she's right, it's not that deep'.

It's all about the gen alpha slang now. Everything is skibbidy and a cool person has infinite aura. Six seven anyone?

Try being a teacher who regularly has to say “for a grade 6/7 …” in a lesson. I end up with half the class sniggering but I can’t seem to stop saying it. FFS!

EmeraldRoulette · 01/10/2025 20:54

No idea what 67 means

Someone asked about GOAT in a sentence

It's just saying Djokovic is the GOAT

I really love "it's not that deep" but I first heard it in the 1975 song "I'm in love with you". Combined with "don't fuck it, you Muppet" I love it 😂

Needmorelego · 01/10/2025 20:57

@EmeraldRoulette no one knows what 6 7 means. Literally no one 😂
Even the young-uns who think it's hilarious.

EmeraldRoulette · 01/10/2025 21:07

@Needmorelego is that like calling everybody G? Nobody knows why, it just seems to have happened?

Needmorelego · 01/10/2025 21:08

Who knows ???
It's all a mystery.
These things just happen 😂😂

EmeraldRoulette · 01/10/2025 21:12

@Needmorelego in terms of the evolution of language, that's actually true

Or should I go all 90s and say

true dat

TalulaHalulah · 01/10/2025 21:19

Yes, I get told to stop crashing out if I get DS into trouble for something: ‘there’s no need to crash out’. Drives me nuts because it’s just a way of not engaging with what I am saying.
they all call each other ‘bro’ around here

edited to add: I forgot, what he actually says is, there’s no need to crash out, it’s not that deep.

makes me want to crash out more.

Yeah, I’m afraid Gen Z slang is a bit passé now - some of those kids are almost 30!

Gen Alpha slang is seeping in. The ‘6 7’ thing is such nonsense. How are they so annoying already?!

Yes, I was thinking that. My DS is Gen Z, mid 20s and has been working and socialising with adults since he was 17 and it’s only very occasionally that he comes out with phrases I don’t understand. Slang for a 25 year old and a 15 year old is going to be very different.

Hallywally · 01/10/2025 21:31

Sadly my 19 year old has spoken very normally to me and does to his friends (when I hear them!) I find language evolution fascinating.

What the hell is the six seven nonsense?! My teens keep saying it and roll about laughing. It’s just stupid.

Yope · 01/10/2025 21:52

Six Seven

Hope this helps

Sorry, but you are so out of touch if you are quoting GenZ slang.

Fuckingfuckssake · 01/10/2025 22:06

I (50) got told off by my 13yr old at the weekend for saying “no probs” to someone in public, it was totally cringe because only young people say that.

EmeraldRoulette · 01/10/2025 22:12

@Fuckingfuckssake but that phrase is as normal as saying hi and bye !

Backhometothenorth · 01/10/2025 22:20

@FuckingfuckssakeDDs 9 and 13 eye-roll and add ‘stop trying to be relateable’

Yope · 01/10/2025 22:22

Remember the floss dance?
One of the most embarrassing things I've ever seen in my life was a grown woman doing the floss moves with her 2 kids.
Oh. My. God.
She looked so pleased with herself for learning it.
I died of second hand embarrassment.
Don't be that woman.

EmeraldRoulette · 02/10/2025 00:09

@Yope I can't do that so I take my hat off to that woman

Or should I say - chapeau

DeadsoulsAngel · 02/10/2025 00:28

I’ve had to tell my just turned 15 year old DS that if he calls me Bruv or Blud once more I’ll stop his allowance. Ick!

Haha! It's just what i found on Instagram while looking for something else. Actually I'm so old I have Gen Z grandchildren but they have never spoken like that to my knowledge.

Why??? Life is too short to miss fun and memorable things like that with your kids.
