Yes - two toddling up our banisters today. Released back outside, they’re cute and lost

IKnowAll13 · 06/10/2025 15:10

I have the same problem it's like a crazy conspiracy lol but honestly they aren't known for being very colony like or working or living like wasps or ants n being big numbered social being what's triggering it

I’ve got hundreds here today again…like another flying ant day. It is very warm here though. And very sunny.

HansHolbein · 06/10/2025 15:23

They are on a mad one today!

PeonyPatch · 06/10/2025 15:24

I’ve noticed a lot in the garden today!

breakfastdinnerandtea · 06/10/2025 15:25

We get loads of them around this time. DH noticed them a few days ago so we’ve had the windows shut since which I hate.

Northquit · 06/10/2025 15:53

It's a lovely day! There's millions of them here! I've just had one land on me when I went out for a minute.

nicky2512 · 06/10/2025 15:58

Ds literally just messaged me from uni to say he’d left his window open today and came back to loads of them!

hotchocdrinker · 06/10/2025 16:16

It’s ladybird day here today too. Every year on a sunny day in October dozens of them appear round my back door, and this year, today is the day!

justasking111 · 06/10/2025 16:52

We haven't got ladybirds but omg the fruit flies are back. They're everywhere.

CozyCoupe · 06/10/2025 16:55

There are swarms of ladybirds here today! Left all the bedroom windows open and now there are literally hundreds of them upstairs.

VenusClapTrap · 06/10/2025 17:00

Swarming round my back door too today. All over the window above the door.

ShesTheAlbatross · 06/10/2025 17:12

Yes! I had to clear about 20 from my bedroom window earlier. And they kept flying back in as I was getting them out.

3678194b · 06/10/2025 17:13

Yes we have them too. I don't want them to hibernate above the window vents though as come Spring they usually fall out dead! So I don't know how to deter them. Maybe it's our windows, New house and the windows have these vents above them, where they like to go.

NorthernChinchilla · 06/10/2025 17:39

Yep, hundreds here in Kent, and about 40-50 have appeared in the porch/hall in the corners of the windows.
Not sure what to do with them!

MoonlightMemories · 06/10/2025 18:49

Had an appointment this afternoon and was waiting outside to be picked up (it was a very warm 19 degrees here) and literally had ladybirds actually flying into me, think in the manner of birds flying into windows, except it was my forehead!

I could see them flying all around me like a swarm of midges and they were in all the nearby trees and bushes as well. I don't think I've ever seen quite so many about!

Motnight · 06/10/2025 18:51

Had hundreds swarming round us in a vineyard in Surrey last week but very localised.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 06/10/2025 19:31

Yes! I was covered in them whilst walking the dog earlier - one even hitched a ride on the tip of my nose for a while!

everychildmatters · 06/10/2025 19:41

We had loads again on the house today and I don't like them, having been bitten by them several times!

It's the weather bought them out today.

We’ve been out to a national trust property and gardens today. They were everywhere. Flying in to our faces and hair , and saw literally hundreds of them all over the wall of the building. ,

Was it Shugborough by any chance as we saw the same there last year?

Peridot1 · 06/10/2025 20:02

DH and I were dive bombed by them this afternoon while painting outside. There was hundreds of them around the front of the house too. The sunny side.

GentleSheep · 06/10/2025 20:13

Millions of 'em! Fascinating though, various colour combos. There have been a lot here all through summer and it seems they are good at hiding from downpours! Spiders having a field day catching flying ones.
