Why ? Because of the video or that it was a crime against Steve Winwood ?

Smartiepants79 · 27/09/2025 22:45

None

Smartiepants79 · 27/09/2025 22:46

But I have very vanilla music taste!

RaraRachael · 27/09/2025 22:52

I grew up in the 70s and my mother banned anything with remotely sexual references

Florencesndzebedee · 27/09/2025 23:02

Buzzcocks - Orgasm Addict. I dont think I knew what an orgasm was but used to play it at top volume and sing along!

feellikeanalien · 27/09/2025 23:08

None. They had absolutely no idea what I listened to.

Overtheatlantic · 27/09/2025 23:10

The “devil’s music” of course. I didn’t know what that was but my dad seemed to. I was allowed to listen to John Denver.

TheWytch · 27/09/2025 23:11

None. But I do wish they had banned my brother from listening to ELO....!

Eyesopenwideawake · 27/09/2025 23:13

My mother threw away Never Mind the Bollocks LP. Probably would be worth a fortune now.

Lilithcomelightly · 27/09/2025 23:28

None.
I can't even imagine my mother banning me from listening to any kind of music.
I mostly played my music at home, and I remember my mother liked most of what I liked too.

RaraRachael · 27/09/2025 23:35

I used to buy those magazines that printed all the latest song lyrics. My mother found one with "Let's make love" in the lyrics so it was ripped up and I was forbidden from ever buying it again.

MondeoFan · 27/09/2025 23:37

Iron Maiden! It’s not even that bad

SeriouslyWhataMess · 27/09/2025 23:53

None, tbh as an adult I’m shocked at what they let me listen to, given that they were fairy strict in other areas.

None for me ,I got to play rock n roll swindle album.. frigging in the rigging was my favourite.
Then Northern soul came into my life.

augustusglupe · 28/09/2025 00:01

Nothing. Although Dad wasn’t impressed with Non stop erotic cabaret - Soft Cell.
The album cover was bad enough, luckily I had massive headphones so he couldn’t hear the words 😄

IamSmarticus · 28/09/2025 01:06

The Sex Pistols, particularly Friggin in the Riggin.

Creepybookworm · 28/09/2025 01:15

None. I could read and listen to what I liked. They even bought my older sister a Frankie Says Relax t shirt when she was 13. They were aging hippies but weirdly illiberal about random things.

Wafflefinder · 28/09/2025 01:17

Freak Me by Another Level.

MrsTrellisOgleddCymru · 28/09/2025 01:58

My parents never banned me from listening to any genre of music. I get my love of bands such as Black Sabbath from DF, classical from DM. I still love punk music and country and western.

warmapplepies · 28/09/2025 07:32

None.

Violetparis · 28/09/2025 07:43

None, my Dad loved Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

FrangipaniBlue · 28/09/2025 07:46

I always wore headphones, my parents would’ve had no clue what I was listening to

curious79 · 28/09/2025 07:49

I wasn’t policed at all but I was fairly sensible too

ExcellentDesigns · 28/09/2025 08:00

I wasn't policed either (used to listen in my room, Mum always had Radio 4 on loudly somewhere else in the house). But my tastes were fairly mainstream, 70s/early 80s chart hits and golden oldies from the 60s, Motown etc. My two mainly used to listen to Now CDs when they were younger which were clean versions I think.

MikeRafone · 28/09/2025 08:04
