Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa, in my kitchen spot, after boy cat woke me up for cuddles just after 8. Girl cat magically appeared at the side of me too! We came down at half past ish, and they've now vanished back upstairs. She had a look in the biscuit bowl before going but someone's eaten all the good ones apparently - she walked away from them 🤣.

We're off to buy dd2 some new trainers and earphones today, as well as finish buying dd1's list for when I go visit in 2 weeks. At this rate I'll need a bigger case than I have so that I can actually take my things too!

Unfortunately, the earphone that went through the wash last week doesn't work 😥. They were about 5 years old though so sound quality's maybe improved on newer ones (maybe?).

When we get in, we'll probably just relax/mooch about for a couple of hours before reheating the remains of last night's Chinese takeaway for tea 😋, and getting something out to defrost for tomorrow evening. Dd1 started her maths homework last night, so she'll probably carry on with that.

After that, showers and chill for a couple of hours with my book - dd2 will almost certainly still be up when I go to bed!

What about all of you? 🙂

Lazy day at home today. I borrowed a new board game from the library so played that with DS after breakfast, then we built a race track with his carrera track set and raced a bit, ate some cake and drank a bit of non-alcoholic mulled wine because I found a bottle left over from last Christmas Grin

DD is still asleep but I'm going to make her get up soon so she can play the board game with us, then maybe we'll watch an episode of X Files.

Will roast some chicken thighs for dinner and tonight I'll watch a film with DD - Stand By Me. She watched it in school last week but she missed the beginning so is happy to watch it again.

We're home after a successful shopping trip! Dd got earphones, trainers, pj's, and two tops! Granted, they're black pj's, and black and white tops, but still...she's usually exceptionally difficult to convince to buy anything, even when she needs it! She has a new book, too, so this evening should be peaceful. Although it's very skinny compared to her usuals, so maybe not!

Just having half an hour to recharge in silence, then going to watch an episode of The Rookie with her & think about tea.

Very late to the thread today! Not for lack of trying though.

A bit of a late start this morning as we were out late last night. Had a lovely long chat with my best friend who lives in Australia. Cooked some croissants and pain au chocolats from the freezer for breakfast which was a nice treat. Did some laundry. Went for a walk. Came back and our neighbour was just returning our lawn mower which he borrowed this morning so we had a coffee.

Our house is in total disarray as we are having the kitchen/dining area and sitting areas painted. It’s making me tired looking at it. Hoping it will be finished by next weekend. Painter is lovely but very particular (which is good obviously) so takes a long time. And I had a crisis of confidence on colour during the week which didn’t help things!

While he is painting inside the nice warm house DH and I have been painting our new garden room which was installed last week. So far we have done two coats of preservative and started on the colour. Which we now think is too light. So we got a bit more of that done this afternoon.

Then I put a stew together and into the oven for dinner and made DS some toasted sandwiches as he is going up to London to meet friends for drinks tonight.

I’m grabbing a sit down for a bit and then have to drop him to the station and come back and have dinner and then I have to get ready as I’m going out for birthday drinks with people I don’t know. Well I know the birthday girl but that’s it.

Glad everyone is having a good day. My date was an absolute disaster. He was foreign with a difficult grasp of English. Ended up using a lot of Google translate as he couldn't understand my accent (Wiltshire). He didn't stay very long as he was parked on a double yellow line!!! Huge car park next to the shopping centre where we arranged to meet!! 😂😂😔😔

Peridot1 · 27/09/2025 16:55

That sounds like a lucky escape @shellyleppard!

shellyleppard · 27/09/2025 17:04

@Peridot1 totally agree 😂😂 i ended up in Tesco buying my Christmas chocolates 😂😂

Peridot1 · 27/09/2025 17:05

But will they last until Christmas @shellyleppard?!

shellyleppard · 27/09/2025 17:06

@Peridot1 if I hide them in the attic.... maybe 😂

Had a funny morning- slept in until 10 am , and woke to a completely empty house 🤪

after messaging all my lost family, husband had been called into work at 5 , son had done a paper round and was on his way to maths class, and eldest had woken early and gone to the gym before work .

turns out they do a better job with out me 😂

got two loads of washing dry on the line and made a lasagna for tea . Read a bit of Carrie - it has no chapters which I’m hating!

now watching heartbeat with a coffee !

DH away competing in his sport.
