Unrealistic things that happen in films..

Recently I am noticing more than ever things that are so unrealistic and think it would be so simple to make more believable, is anyone else like this? 😂

• When someone pulls out their phone & presses one button and their instantly calling the right person!?

• How a sudden downpour of rain can just start with no warning!?

• Always the most extravagant meals on the table for every mealtime but the kitchen is never messy!?

Came here to say exactly this. Why on earth does every single rearing horse in a film whinny at the top of its voice? Horses don't do that!

My guess would be it’s for dramatic effect - to make the horse’s actions seem even more scary. The vast majority of viewers will never have been in close proximity to a rearing horse. It was news to me that horses don’t usually make a sound when rearing!

All women wake up with a full face of perfect makeup.

Anybody who accidentally kills another person will attempt to hide the body, instead of calling an ambulance.

No-one ever waits for a tube train. Regular train, yes, but tube train, no. I wait on average 4 minutes for a Northern line tube.

Also a visitor to London always takes a taxi from the airport or station to their hotel by the most batshit way! Heathrow Airport to (insert random route taking in all the big sghts and racking up a £400 bill) to The Savoy!

Two London -centric ones for you.

When women let hair down in a sultry way, shake it, and it looks absolutely gorgeous. Mmmmm..NO! In real life it looks like you've been dragged through a hedge backwards 😂

Massive house but he needs to sleep on sofa after arguments..

Omg. YES!!!

Oh yes, and another one...

There is always someone who can fly a plane.

Yes, and there's always a doctor on the plane

SimoneHere · 27/09/2025 11:13

Actually, one more.

Two relatively low paid people can afford an enormous house or apartment that would realistically be worth £2m plus, just because it needed decorating when they first stumbled upon it.

Yes, like in shows like Motherland et al

No one ever needs the toilet.

Or a woman goes for a wee but then doesn't wipe.

Ihateboris · 27/09/2025 12:26

Another one .. you are burgled, call the police, and they are at your house in10 mins

TBF I have been on a plane 4 times where they have asked if there was a medical doctor, and each time there has been.

I guess with a couple of hundred people onboard it’s statistically very likely. (I love how they always specify medical doctor though. I have visions of someone proudly presenting themselves as a doctor of philosophy, ready to assist 😅)

Good point but knowing my luck there would be neither a pilot or a doctor 😉 😜

This is why I liked Nyad. Jodie Foster and Annette Beyning's hair looked like they were actually out at sea.

Getting soaking wet then magically dry within five minutes.

Yes. I just watched Robert Redford in the film 'Jeremiah Johnson'. He's in deep snow up in the mountains, splashing about in a freezing river trying to catch fish and gets utterly soaked. He can't light a fire and has to sleep outdoors. Yet he somehow gets dry, seemingly overnight, even though he's wearing thick heavy clothes. How?!

People shower sexily.

Bring back the laugh emoji! So true.

Mine is very specific but it always bugs me that the school concert in Love Actually is on Christmas Eve. This would never happen.

MaryBeardsShoes · 27/09/2025 12:41

When everything turns out all right in the end. The underdog rarely wins the day IRL.

Cattenberg · 27/09/2025 12:41

People never wash their hands before leaving a bathroom. I find it very distracting, thinking of their dirty hands touching things.

All pregnancies are revealed (either to the pregnant woman or to others) by the woman suddenly vomiting.

People can be in comas for weeks and even be declared brain dead, only to wake up, make a full recovery and soon be back working at The Diner (OK, that's not film, it's Home and Away).

mugglewump · 27/09/2025 12:43

Women sleep in full make up and look immaculate in the morning. When you hear something scary in the night, you get up and search without putting lights on.

Cattenberg · 27/09/2025 12:43

irritates the shit out of me when every horse on screen has something to say!

This made me laugh!

mugglewump · 27/09/2025 12:51

Babies instantly go from a small wrapped bundle where you don't see the face to a teething six month old.

Bikergran · 27/09/2025 13:01

People (usually women) going into a house where the front door is standing open (when it should be locked). Not switching the light on when they go in.

youalright · 27/09/2025 13:02

Massive cooked breakfast every morning and someone takes a sip of juice and a bite of dry toast. Also privacy the right person always answers the door and when people are having important conversations nobody is just hanging around. Everybody is always dressed and hair brushed and make up on. No piles of washing anywhere.

mamaduckbone · 27/09/2025 13:05

When someone has a baby it's literally NOW!

RoverReturn · 27/09/2025 13:09

When they digging a deep hole to bury a body its always looks easy to do.

I try and dig a shallow hole for a plant in my garden and I'm hitting tree roots, rocks, bricks etc.

I know! One of the most realistic hole digging scenarios was in motherland when Kevin was trying to dig the pig pit. It took him about 5 hours to dig down 4 inches.

When the phone rings they are always right next to it so can pick it up immediately 😂
