Do you go out when your young child is ill?

I was meant to go out today with a friend but my 2 (nearly 3) year old is ill. Lethargic, eyes vacant, 40 degree fever, crying and asking for me. I have a DH and my friend (single mum) has asked why I can't leave DC with him.

I'm just wondering if it's normal for others to go out in these circumstances?

I am quite relaxed about parenting but if I had a child cooking at 40c I would be worried about convulsions etc . I would not want to leave my child and would be contacting out of hours GP .

Febrile convulsions are a result of a temperature spiking quickly and not due to the fever being excessively high. For some children a very high temperature is normal reaction and their body’s way of dealing with a fever and for others they will never reach that same high, even if they are in a much more serious condition.
