What did you put in your child's lunchbox today?

Mine had a ham cheese and cucumber pitta bread with some cherry tomatoes next to it, yogurt, fridge raiders, crisps and apple.

Thought doing a random day like today would get a wider range of ideas than just asking suggestions.

Ham bagel, pretzels, yoghurt, a pear, cheesestring , breadsticks & a pack of little chocolate fingers.

Well, this is Mumsnet, so:

Hand rolled sushi made by DD with salmon sourced directly from the lake outside my house.

A mason jar side salad with quinoa and spiralised courgette.

Blackberries foraged from our wildlife walk.

Homemade kefir smoothie infused with fresh dew.

Raw cacao nibs for a special treat.

😇😇😇

Chicken & sweetcorn sandwich
whole carrot (doesn't like them cut up)
Falafel, sweet chilli dip.
Dole pot of pineapple in juice

Amazing really, at age 7 he ate no salad or fruit at all. I used to put cold cooked peas and carrot in his lunchbox. Everything changes.

tuna and sweetcorn pasta, kiwi, cucumber & salsa, marble cake & lentil chips
ham and cheese wrap, kiwi, banana, cake & lentil chips
chicken tikka and lettuce wrap, celery & salsa, banana, cake & lentil chips

My DD is on a school trip so has had a bigger packed lunch than normal to cover breaks too: homemade focaccia with cream cheese and Serrano ham
carrots and hummus
yogurt
small piece of cheese
apple slices & grapes
pretzels
a jammy dodger

A packet of chocolate digestives, 2 packets of crisps and a can of Heineken. A couple of fags to finish.

Milk or dark chocolate?

Half a 50/50 bread chicken sandwich
sliced cucumber
1 pear
ready salted crisps
babybel
frube yoghurt

9 years old - the above is pretty stingy to what others in his class take in but he always has a bowl of cereal with whole milk and a slice of 50/50 bread toast with generous slather of peanut butter before school. We did send him in with a whole sandwich but then he wouldn’t touch it - but send in half and he eats it all!

Skerrida · 25/09/2025 16:19

@Stickthatupyourdojo I don't think that needs justifying. Mine wouldn't eat anything if there were too many items. And by too many - at times that has meant anything more than 3.

Greenwriter76 · 25/09/2025 16:22

Honey sandwich
Banana
Raisins
Yoghurt
Crisps
Soreen snack bar

Apocketfilledwithposies · 25/09/2025 16:27

Mine has one of those yummybox bento style lunch boxes with the compartments in. It usually has

  • wrap/sarnie/pasta (1 or 2 of)
  • sausage/cheese/chicken chunks (1 of)
  • strawbs/kiwi/carrot (2 or 3 of)
  • crackers/a few crisps/breadsticks (1 of).

There's also a tiny section that I will put a few dry Cheerios/a tiny brownie/a couple of mini gingerbread men in. Or sometimes cheese if it's not in another section! He loves cheese.

Dc (18) has autism and severe learning difficulties. He takes a packed lunch to his special school every day.
Today he had a salad ...cous cous, hummus, carrot, cucumber, tomatoes, onion and some mixed beans.
When he was 4 he lived on rice cakes, dry cereal, milk and bananas! It's taken a long time but now he eats everything!

Vodkamartini3olives · 25/09/2025 18:45

Peanut butter & jam sandwich
Watermelon slices
Popcorn
Mini Oreos

Tea in hot flask with a few rich tea biscuits..

bringonthebermonths · 25/09/2025 19:03
