Injuring my knee

Giving birth before the epidural. I had severe pgd and spinal and hip issues and the pain of that combined was horrific. They told me off and said I was scaring other women. I was 7cm and made them give me an epidural.

Giving birth, midwife went upstairs to wake up sleeping DH and the baby decided to come right then. I screamed "mummmmmmyyyy" at the top if my voice. Given that my mum was about 300 miles away it needed to be loud.

Given that our mums are reputed to be so “connected” to us for life… she probably did “hear” you… or at least “felt” you..

I say this also, coz my mum was about eighty miles from me when I had a sudden and totally unexpected appendicitis & an emergency op to follow… this was all between the hours of 2am & 10am.
I spoke to my mum much later .. 10 days ish?, and she told me that on that day at that time, she suffered huge pains in the same place and aslso vomited like I did. Makes you think.

LittlePonyy · 21/09/2025 15:09

I also hardly make a sound during childbirth. First time I muttered a few times 'I can't do this' (ended in a C.section) Second time just a long grunt as the head came out (MW said 'Its ok, it's just baby) & a longer grunt as the body came out. Stung like hell.

The only time I've ever screamed as an adult involved my poor pet rabbit, & some maggots, & a wound. That's all I'll say.

I was actually pregnant at the time & I let out this HUGE scream that seemed to come from deep in my soul, & also fell to the floor in shock. & It's the only time I've ever done that too. Poor bunnySad

Sat in my car alone in the vet's car park after having my 15 year old dog PTS. I literally screamed and howled. Have broken bones and birthed a child, but that was my worst day.

When I was being raped.

No one came to help me.

Looking up at the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

Also, when a big spider crawled out of nowhere in the car. I remember it because the scream just erupted out of my mouth right from the pit of my stomach. It was weird. DH was driving and nearly crashed. Kids were traumatised and still talk about it.

The one time I was in a real life or death situation (outside of work) I shouted really concise and precise instructions in very deep
booming that I’ve never used since. DS1 was drowning and I actually took a second to take a deep breath so I could really project my voice. Surprised myself! In a good way (and DS is fine).

When i fell out of a Window (ground foor but above an old pub cellar door in the wall so fell
about 15 feet), whilst hanging Christmas lights and shattered my wrist into smithereens

Creepybookworm · 21/09/2025 15:18

Giving birth to my third and last baby. It was a very quick labour and the second stage was mercifully speedy but incredibly painful. Very primal. If he has been my second I wouldn't have had another one!

FurForksSake · 21/09/2025 15:19

The most surreal was when my ex husband and I decided to separate. I was driving to my mums as I needed to be out the house and to go and tell someone. I thought my car was making a funny noise and turned off the radio to realise it was me, I was screaming.

Thinking of you, Taz. 💙

MyDeftHedgehog · 21/09/2025 15:27

Having my final baby. I knew I wasnt having anymore so I wanted to go out with a bang. Much to the horror of the medical student and the midwifery student who were present at the birth 🤣🤣

ninjahamster · 21/09/2025 15:32

I don’t really scream but when I found my son after an overdose, covered in vomit and the most awful grey colour, I really screamed out my husband’s name. Fortunately he survived but he was very poorly for a while.

ChicOliveCritic · 21/09/2025 15:34

I'm a very squeamish person. Can't stand the sight of blood. My brother (15yo) injured himself at school and required stitches on his lip. My mum tried calling to give me (11yo) the heads up before my brother arrived home. As she was trying to explain, my brother pressed the doorbell and I left my mum on the line when I answered the door. She said my scream was so loud she genuinely thought I must have passed out. I'd never seen stitches on human skin before. I didn't let my poor brother lift a finger for several months and I did all his chores for ages! He loved it!

It is very heartening to read about so many screams caused by spiders. I always chastise myself for reacting so emotionally to them but I can't help it!!😱 The fat horrible tarantula ones are the worst!! 🥲Don't even get me started on mice and rats🤢

VegetableCrisps · 21/09/2025 15:49

Induced labour which progressed very rapidly. Screamed into the gas and air mouthpiece with each. I don't know how anyone forgets the pain of labour; it is firmly etched on my memory years later.

*with each contraction. I had an epidural ahead of the pushing part, so that was a breeze in comparison.

When DS2 - aged 16 - started to cross the road without looking a couple of months ago (the car couldn’t have stopped in time) but he stopped and possible a few pigeons fell out of the sky too. I was loud and piercing.

HappyMuma · 21/09/2025 16:09

Rupturing my ACL, there was a lot of swearing too!

Arlanymor · 21/09/2025 16:14

Fun fact: I cannot scream.

Singer’s nodules - I can still sing but there is a low, hoarse, growly tone to my voice when I do.

Me neither. I've never been able to scream even as a child.

ClassicBBQ · 21/09/2025 16:45

Birthing giant DS2. I genuinely thought the pain would kill me.

ChaosDreamV2 · 21/09/2025 16:49

I don’t think I’ve ever screamed out loud - I scream mentally all the time if that makes sense?

crossedlines · 21/09/2025 17:00

When the baby’s head crowned and I tore. I’d managed labour on gas and air and although it hurt like hell, I coped. Until I actually felt my perineum tear. That hurt like fuck.

TheMasterplan23 · 21/09/2025 17:06

When my ex partner threw a pair of scissors at me.

I don’t think I screamed because I was scared. Unfortunately, looking back I probably would have been relieved if they’d buried themselves in my neck but I think I screamed out of anger. So much anger towards this pathetic piece of shite that had abused me for so long and got away with it.

Navigatinglife100 · 21/09/2025 17:06

You know those static electric bolts you get. One of those when I touched the door handle and car and got 2 at once! Proper painful!

The loudest scream I didn't make was when I was first at the scene of a fatal accident. I remained unbelievably calm, composed, and able to action. To this day, I don't understand the reaction I had given the scene in front of me - but it was a extremely useful one!

Ineedcoffeenow · 21/09/2025 17:13

Mine was a happy scream—when DD told me she’d got into the university of her dreams. I screeched with excitement! I don’t think I’ve ever really screamed at anything otherwise.
