For me it was The Bodyguard & I was really surprised as I love the soundtrack & Whitney.. It was ok but I thought it would blow me away & it didn’t. Maybe some things just work.better on the big screen.

“Les Mis on the other hand. I do like some of the set pieces but it really drags otherwise. Everyone dies, which is fine, but they don’t just die, they have to sing about it.“

That bit has made me giggle. It’s a masterpiece of a comment. 😂

Cats. So incredibly boring

Fionasapples · 20/09/2025 17:01

Calendar Girls, really boring. All those dreadful songs and fake chumminess. I thought it was just me until the interval, but everyone around me said similar!
I liked the film though.

Starlight Express was shite, but that was about 20 years ago and not the most recent production.
101 Dalmatians was underwhelming and the poor puppy they brought out on stage at the end looked terrified.

BeefAndHorseradishSandwich · 20/09/2025 17:05

Thriller 🥱

Wicked - hated every single twee second of it - found the songs completely forgettable and couldn't stand all the baby language. Left before the end - the only saving grace was that the sets and costumes were stunning.

Agreed, it was also way too long - did stay until the end but I don’t understand the huge hype around it or why there needs to be two whole films!

MrsBloomsburyBarton1 · 20/09/2025 17:31

I agree with those who've mentioned I Should be so Lucky. In a similar vein I saw Here and Now (the Steps musical) recently and wasn't impressed, although the main character had a great voice. I found Hamilton under-whelming and left at the interval of Matilda (despite wanting to see it for years). I fell asleep for the first time ever in a musical watching The Addams Family (much to my childrens' hilarity). Conversely, I really enjoyed Saturday Night Fever (stage version) and Bloid Brothers, neither of which I had high expectations for.

PumpkinOatLatte · 20/09/2025 17:38

And Juliet. Utterly ridiculous story line. 3 hours of my life that I'll never get back.

Blood brothers there doesnt seem to be one memorable song . Calamity Jane was waiting for secret love which was just skipped through once. Absolutely love Hamilton watched it twice .

Tell me it’s not True??? Grin
Blood Brothers is the best musical ever.

Rubyupbeat · 20/09/2025 17:46

So many...
Wicked, what a bore and disliked the music.
Phantom, what the heck do people see in it?
Michael Jackson, what an insult to the real guy.
Evita, first time round was great, second time, like cats wailing
The greatest showman, sent me to sleep.
Obviously just me, we all have different tastes, les Mis I have seen 10 times!

Many more, but my mind is blank.

Another vote for Hamilton. I was enjoying it at first but after the interval it went rapidly downhill. Didn’t have a clue what was going on tbf either. Clueless on American history.

I had no idea in the first half but in the interval
i I asked chat got to explain it to me and it helped!

Lentilcakes · 20/09/2025 17:50

Sadly, Hamilton. It was early on in the run, everyone was raving about it and I was - er, why! I have seen in on TV since, maybe it was in lockdown and preferred it cos I knew the story:songs.

I love Miss Saigon. There is an incredible filmed version on the 25th anniversary show, the cast are amazing, worth a watch.

We saw Grease at the dominion for £6.50 a ticket through a seat filling agency. It was ok for that price but I would have resented paying more. My youngest loved it and wanted to go again.

Come From Away is available for non-professional casts now, so you might get to see it more locally. It might be just as good, and certainly less effort to get to it.

Here are some - you could go to several for the price of a cruise. 😀
I’ll be going to one at the ADC in Cambridge next June.
If my link doesn’t work, just search for “amateur productions of Come from Away’’.

Edited

Loved Come From Away so much too!

I found both The Lion King and Cats disappointing

Agree it was way overhyped and dull.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 20/09/2025 17:53

Haven’t RTFT but will :

Six - total waste of money, like a bunch of Little Mix rejects doing a gig and over within an hour

The Commitments - so utterly shite in every way we left at the interval

ImWearingPantaloons · 20/09/2025 17:54

Mamma Mia. Was such a huge ABBA fan that it gave me the rage with its corniness and dubious segways into songs

Comtesse · 20/09/2025 17:54

I didn’t like Wicked in the theatre but I think the film did a good job, I liked it a lot more.

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 20/09/2025 17:57

Didn’t enjoy MJ and wasn’t sure about Pretty Woman.

Whyamiherenow · 20/09/2025 17:57

I loved the new production of Evita but wow my auntie hated it ! It’s had a bit of a rock music style make over and set etc. she wasn’t a fan.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 20/09/2025 17:59

I didn’t rate Matilda either I was very disappointed in it

Runnersandtoms · 20/09/2025 18:00

Starlight Express. I mean the skating is fun but I felt absolutely nothing for the storyline and the whole thing seems pretty childish. I'm a huge musical theatre fan but I like stuff that makes me interested in the characters, preferably to the point where it makes me cry.

Hercules also felt too panto for me not enough feels.

sammyspoon · 20/09/2025 18:03

Really hated Wicked. And the tickets were a fortune. Also I found the Lion King quite dull, although the costumes were incredible.

Wicked, wanted to walk out before rge interval. Only stayed as my son took me, because I said I wanted to see it.... 😪😴
