I’m still pondering, but probably for me it would be to rid us of social media.

I’d also love for there to be no ‘beauty industry’ and corporations making money out of our perceived (invented!) imperfections.

Gunpowder

Although I'm sure humans would have found another way of mass murder

Religion the cause of all evil

It’s understandable to blame religion but it’s male aggression that’s the issue.

They often pin their drive to fight on religion - or geopolitics - but, equally, they’ll pin it on something as daft as supporting different football teams or someone accidentally nudging past them while they were carrying a pint from the bar.

I believe there were wars long before gunpowder was invented, so yes there would be other ways.

Male violence towards women. I think it's akin to the effects of terrorism, so much so we almost can't imagine a world without it. There is each individual act with its individual female victim, but all of those acts cumulatively affect all women as a population, even if they don't suffer direct violence themselves.

This a thousand times over. I can't believe that this isn't what everyone is choosing.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 20/09/2025 08:09

Imperialism or Capitalism.

Really? Of all the things to pick from…

Many people were devastated by the Pandemic. And one of us - ie me - now has a severely mentally ill child, who can’t attend school, as a result. It basically shut down the world. People died. Not everyone was sneezing once an hour and getting on with the cooking. So why not Covid? No need to police other people’s choices🙄

Came on to say exactly this.

The NHS as in free medical care for all according to need?

Do you want to go back to treatment being based on ability to pay?

Certainly not but social insistence systems like those in Australia, France, Germany, Austria, etc, are significantly better. Nobody is copying the inefficiencies of the NHS.

Male aggression.

Without that, there would be no wars. No holocaust, no nuclear bomb, no genocide, no invasions, no violence, no rape, no abuse, no murder.

All else is secondary, really.

Very true

Clockface222 · 20/09/2025 08:17

I think eliminiating institutionalised slavery might have had a multitude of positive impacts including less polarised economic growth and fewer racial conflicts.

I was tempted to say nuclear weapons but that might just lead to more conventional wars.

ExquisitelyDecorating · 20/09/2025 08:23

My first thought was the Nazi regime but I think overall I'd go for male violence over women.

Really torn over social media, it has enhanced and improved my life in so many ways but there are huge negative impacts on society in many ways especially for young people.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 20/09/2025 08:28

The smart phone. Totally unnecessary and has achieved absolutely nothing. If people want Internet they can have it at home or work and if they want to talk they can have a phone. The smart phone has had only negative consequences, it has permanently damaged society, for what. For a tiny few US people to become exceptionally rich.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 20/09/2025 08:32
