I’m still pondering, but probably for me it would be to rid us of social media.

I’d also love for there to be no ‘beauty industry’ and corporations making money out of our perceived (invented!) imperfections.

Smart phones.

We can still have brick phones & the internet but these don't hold the same addictive qualities.

WeeGeeBored · 20/09/2025 00:04

The births of Nigel Farage, Yaxley Lennon, the Brothers Tate, Simon Cowell (for the ruination of originality in young people’s music, Donald Trump, JD Vance…and my nosey neighbour. The list is actually endless but that will do for now.

Social media and smart phones. Yes thats two but they go hand in hand so far as addiction goes. Back to simple feature phones.

OriginalUsername2 · 20/09/2025 00:40

The mobile phone. I want us all to go back to the house phone.

(Teenage me would be shocked to hear this!)

ThreePears · 20/09/2025 00:48

Male aggression.

Without that, there would be no wars. No holocaust, no nuclear bomb, no genocide, no invasions, no violence, no rape, no abuse, no murder.

All else is secondary, really.

flobalobble · 20/09/2025 01:01

Social media is a disaster for young people! Books and landline are better for MH .

The neolithic agricultural revolution.

You stole mine!

Fixed agriculture. Before that, small hunter-gatherer, egalitarian etc. Women's labour was important.

After, constant male violence and war for resources.

AI and smart phones. Internet only from computer screens. Phones were great, smart phones are just too much.

Pricelessadvice · 20/09/2025 07:06

Social media platforms like FB, instagram etc
They bring out the worst in people and have taken over everyone’s lives.

The ‘early’ days of the internet were so exciting. Not so much now.

Handsomesoapdish · 20/09/2025 07:10

I’d do a few Mohammed, Jesus of Nazareth, Buddha, all of the rest of the charismatic cult leaders in the world who have gifted us with anti women religions that all use God as a form of social control to maintain the dominance hierarchy we see in other animal kingdoms without using psychological control on top of physical dominance.

Patriarchy, I can’t help but feel we would be in a better place if women ruled the country.

And social media it has destroyed social interaction

The NHS as in free medical care for all according to need?

Do you want to go back to treatment being based on ability to pay?

I wouldn't have been able to afford DH's recent heart operation, so I am removing the NHS from room 101.

It's ironic that lots of people are saying the internet. Mumsnet wouldn't exist without it.
