Who actually likes the new MN colours?

What was wrong with the old ones?

And why was the 😄 emoji taken away (and please may we have it back, if you're implementing site changes anyway?!)

Could someone post a screenshot for the lowly app users who don’t have the new colours?!

Here…

I am green, OP is blue.

Ah so it’s similar to the app (OP is blue on the app, and my comments are green), but different shades and the whole box? How confusing

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 20/09/2025 01:48

There’s so much to be done to bring this site into the 21C and they mess about with colours. Shades of Nero fiddling while Rome burns. 🙄

BogRollBOGOF · 20/09/2025 07:26

I'm finding the blue garish despite tending to keep my backlight on as low as possible. The contrast with the magenta buttons is unpleasant.

Then the OP/ poster backgrounds are a bit too inspid.

It doesn't feel co-ordinated and must be unpleasant for people with visual stress issues.

And it looks like a junior school child designed it.

Thelankyone · 20/09/2025 07:29

I also find it garish if I’m honest, and the highlighting of posts quite insipid.

The new colours look like they've been deliberately designed to appeal to children - at least those without sensory issues or sight-related disabilities.

Bit odd, considering that MN is definitely a site for adults. Will they also be offering free lollipops or Labubus to encourage more new users to sign up?

Or dyslexia, I’m finding it much harder to read. Fuck only knows why they’ve messed with it!

bluecactus · 20/09/2025 08:05

I hate the “original poster” box

NettleandBramble · 20/09/2025 08:06

I've turned the pink and blue of original poster and me to green (which looks grey) and grey respectively as it was too much. The labels are horrible.

The worst thing is how bright everything else is - the lists of threads and the blue that is used on the discussion pages are eye watering. I've fiddled with my phone to mitigate it as best I can but it's still uncomfortable to use.

RobustPastry · 20/09/2025 08:13

I want a whole bloody family of labubus please to make up for these horrific constant videos. The site used to feel clean and simple. It feels cluttered and awful now with the constant reloading and losing of my place on the thread and the videos popping up. I’ve just moved over to desktop version to see if this helps.

RidingTheTube · 20/09/2025 08:14

New colours are headache inducing. Feels like an intern was let loose on site design.

Woompund · 20/09/2025 08:16

I hate the new colours. Agree with taking away the laugh react though.

RobustPastry · 20/09/2025 08:18

I’ve just moved to dark mode as well via settings so going to see if that helps. There’s no colour distinction there at all between my own posts or anyone else’s in dark mode. so maybe that why the big badge to say ‘’My posts’ has been put there?

Needspaceforlego · 20/09/2025 08:23

They are garish to me. And don't work as well if you have the screen on dark mode.

I can live without the 😂 emoji but id love to see a 😯 wtf face.

RobustPastry · 20/09/2025 08:29

How do the advertisers feel about paying for an annoying moving long thin top of the screen banner ad which most of us hate, and is non removable… then only to have a different advertiser’s annoying moving video pop up on the right hand side of the screen (I am going to say most of us also hate pop up videos) …. cover up half of that annoying moving long thin banner for as long as the pop up video is allowed to play?

I don’t want to see one moving advert and a half covered up moving advert literally on top of each other at the same time

Also can I add for accessibility (because I have some visual issues with contrast) that when dark mode refreshes compulsorily and frequently, as it does for no apparent reason, (as it did just now while I am typing this) then the page flashes up night empty white before reloading which is painful when your eyes are used to dark background.

Tastaturen · 20/09/2025 08:29

I prefer them.

gamerchick · 20/09/2025 09:35

I do loathe that moving advert you have to close a million times on one page at the top.

I don't know why advertisers use moving adverts like that. Nobody watches them.

TimSamandLulu · 20/09/2025 09:39

I don’t like the blue at all. Like some other posters, I feel like my eyes are hurting when I see it.

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 20/09/2025 09:41

I like the shade of blue. Much less harsh and no longer reminds me of the colour scheme of the gov.uk website.

RobustPastry · 22/09/2025 12:23

What is being done about the random reloading of the page that chucks you to the top of the page each time? MN is such a clunky user experience at the moment

Phiilipee · 22/09/2025 12:25

Hate them. They are not dissimilar to the blue given off by the ghastly blue Christmas lights.

I'm spending about 1/10th of the time I used to on here (probably not a bad thing).

And they have STILL not sorted the problem of the topic jumping right back to the top of the page.

MN have really ballsed up or have they decided to hire chimpanzees because it's cheaper?

StuntAcorn · 22/09/2025 12:30

The other issue I've noticed is that sometimes a post doesn't look it has posted, as it still shows in the comment box, then press Post again, and lo and behold, duplicate posts appears.
Annoying.

Annoying.

This is another long-running issue that predates the colour changes.

McLainey · 22/09/2025 12:34

Hate the new bright blue text; it's harder to see and I'm using Mumsnet less because it's just too bright.

I do have autism, though, so that probably doesn't help.

OriginalUsername2 · 22/09/2025 12:35

I don’t like it either. I have to focus harder to read the text which probably isn’t great for my eyes.
