Pasta sauce. Cannot believe how nice it tastes with a can of plum tomatoes, a clove of garlic and a few herbs.

Loaded pizza with everything I can find in the fridge thrown on it.
Make my own pizza sauce jars of it, much better always too much.
Make my own bread too.

Mac and cheese. By far out of everything I know this is the one thing I’m ridiculously good at!

MissAnthr0pe · 19/09/2025 18:24

Cakes
Pancake/crepes
Bread

Salad. After reading about salad related contamination and food poisoning, I won't eat it unless I make it at home where I know everything is thoroughly rinsed and prepared hygienically.

Iamthemoom · 19/09/2025 18:41

Everything these days. I’ve found restaurant food and take seats really disappointing lately across the board. I think with prices going up quality has gone down and I’d rather cook great food at home for a fraction of the cost.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 19/09/2025 18:43

Cake.

I also make the best potato salad in the history of potato salads.

TiredofLDN · 19/09/2025 18:48

Victoria sponge
Pasta sauces
Flatbread
sausage rolls
burgers and meatballs

OTOH I never make lasagne from scratch, and rarely chicken nuggets

Echoeingecho · 19/09/2025 18:50

I’ve just made lasagna from scratch and eaten some. It was delicious.

Dobbyatemysocks · 19/09/2025 18:52

Mash potatoes and roast potatoes

But I do buy loads of the cheap potatoes/veg on offer at Christmas and then I blanch/par boil/ prep/freeze. I was extremely lucky to be gifted a large chest freezer and cannot imagine not having it.

Another vote as well for cakes/pies/pasties etc.

i would love to be able to make pasta but past attempts have had DF up all night with heartburn

I am keto so can’t buy anything ready made as it’s full of wheat/grains and starches 😂

I make my own bearnaise sauce.

Loooove Bearnajse sauce😃

We don't eat out all that often but when we do it's really got more to do with having a relaxed meal out where I don't have to buy the food, think what to do with it, do it, clear up afterwards and get the leftovers into the fridge. The fact that I'm a reasonably good cook has very little to do with it.

fiorentina · 19/09/2025 18:59

Soup, pasta sauces, curries mainly.
I prefer a home made cake but am not an amazing baker!

Thoughtsandprayers · 19/09/2025 19:02

I think most food tastes better homemade and I do a fair amount of meals from
scratch although very happy to cheat.

However, I agree with others, pasta sauce is better homemade as are jam, cakes and a roast dinner.

mondaytosunday · 19/09/2025 21:25

Brownies. From an American mix though - no bakery can match Betty Crocker!

Barney16 · 20/09/2025 20:27

Cakes
Biscuits
Soup
Then whatever is for dinner I cook everything from scratch these days.

80smonster · 20/09/2025 20:32

I prefer my food everyday, fresh ingredients/herbs and a generous hand are hard to beat.

SirHumphreyRocks · 20/09/2025 21:01

I mostly cook from fresh, and agree with everyone... but if I can say, they're is one thing that eludes me. Every now and then I MUST have a donner... and I cannot work out how to do it at home as well as the place down the road.

ThePoshUns · 20/09/2025 21:06

Bolognese sauce
Fish pie

MaxineHarper · 20/09/2025 21:13

Almost everything made at home is nicer than shop bought or in a restaurant. So I make almost everything from scratch:

crackers
bread
pasta
pizza dough
pasta sauce (pre-made is disgusting)
Pesto
hummus
guacamole
breaded chicken
burgers
fish cakes
mayonnaise
tapenade
pies (steak, fish, chicken)
soups
cakes
scones
crepes
blinis
list is too long….

shorter list:
butter
shortcrust pastry
jam (I just don’t have the skill, bon maman is much nicer than mine)
brioche buns
creme fraiche and sour cream

ThePoshUns · 20/09/2025 21:06

Bolognese sauce
Fish pie

I'm the only one who eats fish in this house so making a fish pie doesn't work on a cost and labour sense for me, I do like the sainsbury ready meal. If others ate it I'd totally do it at home.

Losingtheplot2016 · 20/09/2025 21:32

Any type of cake is better homemade

secureyourbook · 20/09/2025 22:34

I always make my own pasta sauce, have done for years since I started tricking the kids into eating one filled with numerous veggies and whizzed up in the blender. Tbf i cook everything from scratch, mostly just simple one pot dishes.

I make my own hummus now, I get a pretty large tub out of one can of chickpeas (I either do beetroot, roasted red pepper or roast carrot.

ninjahamster · 20/09/2025 22:35

Nothing. I fucking hate cooking tbh. And I’m married to a chef!

stayathomer · 20/09/2025 22:38

Stew and lasagne

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 20/09/2025 22:40

Pizza. It’s just dough, tomato sauce and cheese. Cheap as anything.
When they do the potatoes for 20p I make my own chips.
