Where are you going in Oxford? The Westgate has a multi storey but it gets busy on the weekend. There are other options but all of it is £££

mattbee · 18/09/2025 17:20

If you're on that side of town, Ferry Hinksey Road (off bottom of Botley Road) and the recreation ground have some very cheap parking. It's maybe a 15 minute walk to George St etc. But ultimately Oxford hates your car and wants you to leave it at home.

Cantseetreesforthewood · 18/09/2025 17:23

Park and walk??

Oxford is shite for parking. And the scarse city centre carparking is busy and very expensive.

Thelostjewels · 18/09/2025 17:31

Thank you coming tomorrow ,want to go central

It very much depends on which bit of Oxford you’re trying to get to as @Whatabouterrysays. Cars are generally unwelcome so one of the park and rides is really the best option, the one at Oxford Parkway train station is very quick into town (I know you don’t want P&R). There is a bit of street parking (from memory; these things change all the time) in some of the residential roads off the Banbury Road (for example Linton Road) but quite far up Banbury Road from the centre so that would still require a fair walk into the centre or hopping onto one of the frequent buses. There is parking in St Giles but I’m sure that’s tricky and probably £££, like the multi-storey I personally wouldn’t bank on getting a space there.

Thelostjewels · 18/09/2025 17:35

@YouOKHun does that one enable us to use a train in ?

OP posts:
Woundupatwork · 18/09/2025 17:39

Yes, it takes 7 minutes.

YouOKHun · 18/09/2025 17:40

Yes, it’s the train from Marylebone (the Chiltern Line) which goes via High Wycombe and Bicester Village. At Oxford parkway the P&R bus stop is in the middle of a large car park and the buses have a straight line down the Banbury Road. You can get out at the top of Broad Street. It’s far more civilised than finding a parking spot then selling the family silver to pay for it!

Poirot1983 · 18/09/2025 17:40

We always park in the train station car park.

MissPrismsMistake · 18/09/2025 17:42

Do not under any circumstances attempt to bring a car into central Oxford. You will age about 90 years in a single day!

Mildandcreamyricotta · 18/09/2025 17:45

Not sure why you don’t want to use P&R as it’s 100% the best option. However, if you’re desperate to drive you could also try Just Park for private spaces, I’ve used that for the theatre before

fluffiphlox · 18/09/2025 17:48

Why not the P&R? It’s cheap, easy, reliable. Otherwise Westgate.

Sconcing · 18/09/2025 17:50

Oxford just doesn’t want your car in the city centre.

Thelostjewels · 18/09/2025 17:50

@Poirot1983 is that easy to access ?

OP posts:
ProfessorRizz · 18/09/2025 17:51

I quite often park in Summertown Car Park and get the bus the rest of the way (a few mins tops).

JohnofWessex · 18/09/2025 17:52

Westgate

If its full there is another - very basic car park just beyond it on the left

Either that or get there early!

Thelostjewels · 18/09/2025 17:54

That park and ride is on the opposite side to us, is there anything on the Didcot side

My brother used it and said p and r was awful busy bus or late or didn't drop them in right place etc

OP posts:
ElectoralControversy · 18/09/2025 17:55

Id advise against the station car park if you don't know where you're going, there's an ongoing road closure in that area and it's hard to navigate

Thelostjewels · 18/09/2025 17:55

Will it be busy tomowow

Overtheatlantic · 18/09/2025 17:56

Just a note that there are University Open Days tomorrow. My department is expecting a couple hundred tomorrow and Saturday. It’s going to be a mad house everywhere.

Thelostjewels · 18/09/2025 19:30

Oh dear ok

GameOfJones · 18/09/2025 19:34

If you're coming from the Didcot side go to Redbridge park and ride. It is really easy, will cost you £5 to park and for your bus tickets and you can almost always get straight on the 300 bus. Get off at the Westgate stop and you'll be very central and you catch the bus back from there too on the other side of the road near Junkyard Golf.

I used to drive in and park at the Westgate but honestly the park and ride is much better and it is vastly cheaper.

We use the Redbridge park and ride which is on the Didcot side. Never had a problem with it.

Thelostjewels · 18/09/2025 19:35

Is Westgate easy to acces
