That park and ride is on the opposite side to us, is there anything on the Didcot side

My brother used it and said p and r was awful busy bus or late or didn't drop them in right place etc

Well, I can guarantee you that getting the bus in from a Park and Ride will be a picnic compared to trying to park in the city centre on an open day.

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 18/09/2025 20:28

Lots of Westgate stores do not open until 10am so if you get in earlier than that, you should be fine. It’s impossible to say what difference the open day might make though.

JulesJules · 18/09/2025 20:32

We have used Park and Ride at Redbridge several times and it's brilliant, have always got a bus straight away, right in to the Westgate centre. Same going back out.

Apart from that, have always managed to park in St Clements carpark, just off St Clements St. It's only a few minutes walk to the High St, over Magdalen Bridge. Costs an arm and a leg though.

Waitrose via your parking space

Helpmyface · 18/09/2025 20:38

If you are coming from Didcot area isn't the train a good option for you?
Parking in Oxford is awful. Traffic in Oxford is awful. At least the buses can use the bus lanes.

ProfessorRizz · 19/09/2025 07:02

Warning about the Westgate: turn right when you drive out, otherwise you’ll get stuck in the Kafkaesque bus lane system and charged £35 <bitter experience>

PermanentTemporary · 19/09/2025 07:06

If you’re coming from Didcot, I beg you to take the train if you can access it, it’s incredibly easy. Then you’ll have a huge choice of buses to the centre if you want (though it’s only about 15 mins to walk).

Lemoncanine · 19/09/2025 07:09

Why not the park and ride?

borntobequiet · 19/09/2025 07:15

Anyone taking a car into Oxford when there are other options is bonkers, especially when it’s guaranteed to be busy. The park and ride buses are cheap, reliable and there are plenty of convenient stops in the centre. The train station is a 7 min walk from the Westgate if you can come by train.

Brilliant thanks will there be spaces though by 10am tomow

How do you expect anyone on MN to know this?

Oxford is a nightmare for parking as many people have said - limited and expensive. We have visited many times and used park and ride with no issues but there are uni open days tomorrow so it will be chaos. That’s as much info as you’ve got - so it’s up to you if you want to risk it or not.

Personally, if I wanted to visit on a specific very busy day and absolutely needed to be parked centrally I’d go very early (not peak arrival time of 10am) and have breakfast in town.

wagnbobble · 19/09/2025 07:17

On a Saturday I use the college car park on oxpens road or the ice rink car park on the other side of the road . You will need to be there before 11 to guarantee a space .

Mumdiva99 · 19/09/2025 07:19

There are park and rides all around Oxford. Doesn't matter where you are approaching from. They are easy and good value.

SheilaFentiman · 19/09/2025 07:32

Echoing the “can you get the train from
Didcot” post. There’s not going to be a magic car park or side road that only 3 people know about and one of them happens to see your post.

(lived in central Oxford once, had a parking permit)

Huge thanks to all contributers we went to the Thornhill park and ride and it worked really well.
