Is it safe to go into London?

I have heard from a few friends that there has been an increase in racial attacks since the Tommy Robinson march? Anyone know anything about this?

OP posts:

Ffs.

Right.

I hope so. My DH and kids go there all the time.

I've heard tell some DHs and kids actually live in London. Imagine!

labradorservant · 17/09/2025 08:19

@MotnightI remember during some of the bridge terrorist attacks my DCs school stopped a trip to London. My DH was fuming as it Basically told all the kids whose parents worked there (most of them) that it was dangerous, and it made the kids worried.
My DH was born and bred in Northern Ireland. His idea of risk is that you just need to get on with life.

mindutopia · 17/09/2025 08:29

My guess is 98% of the people attending the marches were not Londoners and they have now all returned to whatever hobbit hole they crawled out of. Yes, it’s as safe as always. Probably much more safe than a market town somewhere in the countryside.

Letstheriveranswer · 16/09/2025 19:22

Judging by the photos there were plenty of black people on the march at the weekend, and they were fine.

This is bilge.

Poppingby · 17/09/2025 09:00

The racists have mostly gone back where they came from now.

I keep seeing this "plenty of" non white people statistic for the fascist rally on Saturday. Almost so imprecise as to be complete bollocks really.

StewkeyBlue · 17/09/2025 09:13

Where are your friends getting this ‘information’ from?

It is certainly not documented.

Pollqueen · 17/09/2025 09:23

There is no information out there about London being more dangerous since the march. OP is obviously either a troll, stirring up controversy or just plain stupid

Araminta1003 · 17/09/2025 09:24

The thugs who showed up for the march were largely from other parts, not London, and I doubt they can afford to stay here in hotels or even rent here so it is probably safer here than most places.

That’s a bit much. But the news often inflates things. I remember hearing about the Paris stuff but it was in localised areas most people weren’t affected.

“London is significantly more diverse than England as a whole. 46% of Londoners are Black and Minority Ethnic, compared to 14% of England as a whole. West London has the highest proportion (53%) of its population that are Black and Minority Ethnic, followed by East London (50%). South London has the smallest proportion of people from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds (36%).
41% of Londoners were born outside of the UK, compared to 13% of people in the rest of England. West London has the highest proportion - with 47% of residents not born in the UK, followed by Central London (44%).”

London is very diverse and mostly rubs along really well with its own diversity. People from other parts of the country come down to London to vent their grievances. They then go back to where they came from!

No, it's a fact. Or are you suggesting all the black people were photoshopped in?

How many would you say was 'plenty'?

The photos show an almost entirely white sea of faces. Do you have a link to a photo showing 'all the black people' because I've just had a good hard look and can't find any photos photoshopped or otherwise.

I've also read several reports that the crowd was "90% male, more than 99% white".

MNLurker1345 · 17/09/2025 10:03

I can’t actually believe this. I am black and in and out of London all of time. Gosh, a thought like this would never have crossed my mind. Be brave, go into London and have a lovely time. You will not be attacked. My sympathies to you and your anxiety!

MNLurker1345 · 17/09/2025 10:24

You can actually check London crime figures from the Met Office and other data resources open to the public. So far no reports of this happening. Believe the data or believe your “few friends “.

This is interesting, my ex from West London use to say he only saw black people when he came to my area, South! The liar 😂 He is black before anyone gets offended.

As for the op I’m not sure why people are being so rude I think it’s a valid concern.

Photoshopping people into imaginary photos is a growth industry I hear.

Araminta1003 · 17/09/2025 10:38

The crowd that comes in for the Tommy Robinson marches is largely white and male and impoverished and bemoaning the fact the white male working class no longer rules the country. Because now women, minorities etc have taken them over and they are simply upset about sharing the competition with others. They believe in manosphere and the rule of the white male and believe they are entitled to more than they are getting. It is not that complicated to understand. The vast majority of them do not live in London! Most white male professionals in London never take part in these marches.
London is the capital so this is where they simply come to protest. They go home straight after the marches, end of story.
If you inadvertently ever get caught up in these marches it is very obvious what the crowd is.

Araminta1003 · 17/09/2025 10:42

And I do think the white male working class has been given a raw deal in this country in deprived parts, it is evident from the education statistics and the underperformance of poor white boys. They now have a voice and a platform on social media to vent their frustration and some of the concerns are legitimate. But it is not the fault of the minorities. It is the “system” that has failed them, the lack of jobs, the sending jobs abroad etc.
It is complicated and needs addressing. However, London itself has not changed. It will likely be changing and getting poorer though long term as the financial industry is being decimated slowly by Brexit and all sorts. But there may be lots of other job opportunities in tech instead, if the powers to be actually promoted business in the right way. They typically do not.

Poppingby · 17/09/2025 11:07

I do agree with you @Araminta1003 and your balanced and rational view should be celebrated. But I must say, I'm sick of doing white men's thinking for them.

kellygoeswest · 17/09/2025 11:09

I commute to London for work every day and its fine.

If you are non-white, unfortunately you're just as likely to face racism anywhere in the UK, not just London.

It's the cold, dark North you should worry about. We file our teeth to points and will eat our own young.

😄

Berlinlover · 17/09/2025 11:14

I feel a lot safer in London than I do in my hometown in the west of Ireland.

Comtesse · 17/09/2025 11:18

London is no more or less dangerous than it was last week or the week before. Ok the Trump visit might cause some drama but that’s it. You would be daft to let these silly rumours stop you from coming to London if you wanted to.

The stats are for 'Black and minority ethnic'. West London includes lots of areas with a very high Asian population (eg Hounslow), but fewer with African/Caribbean roots, so your ex was probably right about how it feels to him.

The stats can be misleading or easily manipulated/misrepresented, too - lots of the black and ethnic minority population are British born and bred, lots of the 'not born in the UK' people are white (European, Australian, Brits born abroad etc), but racist fear-mongers add them all together and talk about London being invaded.

Farage or some other politician recently came up with some scare-mongering stat about the tiny number of Londoners who were born in the UK and had British-born parents; I looked at my extended family at a barbecue in my garden a few days later and realise that only about two of us would meet that test, even though we are nearly all white, native English speakers with UK passports.
