Moving house this week. My DH thinks we should leave behind our shower curtain rail (only the rail, not the actual curtain) for the new owner to be helpful. I think he will think its minging and be annoyed at us leaving it behind. Who's right?

How minging can the rail have got?

I'd leave it, if they don't want it they can easily chuck it and it might be useful for them.

I assume you have no need for it anymore.

InTheNotswolds · 16/09/2025 11:58

Isn't a shower rail (not curtain) 'fixtures and fittings'?

Clumsycorvid · 16/09/2025 11:59

I'd leave it, too. I've left some odd essential things at my last house and found some in my current house. I've used a few and stored away the rest.

UpMyself · 16/09/2025 11:59

I'd leave it unless you need it.

TheDameHelenShiteingMirren · 16/09/2025 11:59

I would leave it but make sure it's clean, along with the rest of the property.

Purplecatshopaholic · 16/09/2025 12:00

Good grief, who takes a shower rail? Or curtain for that matter? Surely those stay as part of the house ..?

Gizmosgremlins · 16/09/2025 12:01

No we don't need it where we are going, i just assumed he wouldn't want it. It's not actually minging, just used . I think im being too uptight and stand corrected...Will leave it behind. My husband will be delighted to be proven right!

We left ours in our last house, as did the people we bought from.

ExquisitelyDecorating · 16/09/2025 12:37

I'd consider that to be fixtures and fittings and leave it.

TheFlis · 16/09/2025 13:00

Assuming it’s actually attached to the wall then it will surely be much easier to leave it than take it and make the walls good?

UpMyself · 16/09/2025 13:16

If the rail is attached to the wall, you should definitely leave it behind. If it's a tension rod, take it with you if you need to.

There is no point in taking it if you won't need it.

Silverbirchleaf · 16/09/2025 13:18

I agree, leave it. I would consider it part of fixture and fittings also.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 16/09/2025 13:19

Gees OP I’d hate to see the rest of your house if your shower curtain rail is ‘minging’.

Tetchypants · 16/09/2025 13:19

Why on earth would you put someone in the situation of having to buy and install a new rail before they can even have a shower in their new home?! Leave it. Leave the lightbulbs too, just in case you were wondering…

slipperypenguin · 16/09/2025 13:21

Leave it

ComtesseDeSpair · 16/09/2025 13:32

Give it a wipe and leave it. And the curtain, chuck it in the wash if it’s a bit discoloured. If they don’t like it they can replace it. Until they get around to that, spare them the inconvenience and indignity of having to fluffle around holding the shower head in one hand whilst trying to lather with the other because it’s the only way not to hose the entire bathroom.

They’re unlikely to bitch to their friends at the pub about a slightly worn shower rail. Your names will be mud if you deprive them of a long hot shower after they’ve heaved all their boxes in.

vickylou78 · 16/09/2025 14:06

If it's attached to wall it's a fixture and would expect it to be left there for new owner

vickylou78 · 16/09/2025 14:09

Please leave the other curtain rails too...nothing worse than moving in and can't have a shower and can't sleep as no curtain rail to hang a curtain up!

Of course leave it. What an odd thing to take.

SirChenjins · 16/09/2025 14:57

Much as I'd love to be on your side, your DH is right.

Just tell him you've changed your mind - obviously don't tell him you were wrong.

Gizmosgremlins · 16/09/2025 15:01

Ha thanks all. I probably was over excited when I described it as minging 😊, its not but it's not new either. Its just one of those tension rods, not actually fixed. But feedback noted and i will indeed be leaving it and might even throw in the shower curtain freshly washed.

ohtowinthelottery · 16/09/2025 15:06

DS struggled to shower on day 1 in his house as it hadn't occurred to him that the shower rail would be a tension rod and be taken by the vendor. He'd bought a shower curtain but had nothing to hang it on. Glad you're leaving it. I'm sure they'll find it useful, even if they only use it for the 1st couple of days.

Account734 · 16/09/2025 15:14

Your husband is right.

mochimoons · 16/09/2025 15:27

I have just bought a house and the previous owner left their curtain rail and shower curtain - we are replacing it straight away BUT it was super useful to have it temporarily, so were happy it was left.

DiscoBob · 16/09/2025 15:31

I wouldn't dwell on it. But most people have shower screens now rather than curtains I think? If it's more effort to take it off and I don't want to keep it I'd probably just leave it there.
