P Diddy is now being censored out of songs on the radio as though it’s a swear word

How bizarre is that? I don’t even think he wax convicted for most of what they charged him with in the end 😵‍💫

You may think how on earth do I know that name is now censored? Because I’m singing along to Keisha’s Don’t Stop on Capital Anthems and I’m pretty bloody sure me singing P Diddy was correct in the blanked out space. Googled it and yep, what the hell? I feel like these small creeps into censorship are indicative of something I don’t like societally.

Anyone think I’m being unreasonable or would you also be scratching your heads?

Interesting. What radio station?

Censorship and prohibition has never been tolerated well in democracies so I do find it interesting how many people are happy to have others determine that names are now so abhorrent our ears shouldn’t hear them.

Apparently Joe Jonas also changed the live lyrics to that song, probably didn't want to be heard celebrating Sean combs which is fair.

I heard Nickelback’s Rockstar on the radio recently and there were several words censored, not just swear words. I found it a bit strange. The P Diddy one makes more sense.

Just had to get a refresher on the lyrics. I’m guessing the words that have been taken out are ‘drugs, drug dealer, beat up and asshole’? I mean it makes sense before watershed.

I’ve also wondered recently why smoking isn’t so popular in current TV programmes whereas when I was growing up it was full of it. The recent OFCOM guidelines state that smoking should not be glamourised and promoted on telly - I would hazard a guess that the more frequent removal of certain phrases and words from radio will have a lot to do with ever changing guidance of what’s perceived to be harmful to (likely kids) society

We applaud censorship while it reinforces our own views and oppose it when it's our views being suppressed.

Radio 2 played Christina Aguleria Candyman yesterday and blanked out ‘cherry pop’ now I know what it means but would a child listening to that song know?

Do you really not see the difference between an artist changing the lyrics of their own song and state-mandated censorship?

I’ve already said that I understand Keisha’s views on the lyrics of her own work, particularly considering her history with fighting abuse. It’s everyone else nodding along like sheep when apparently it isn’t just Keisha related, it’s another song as well so it’s definitely his name that’s being censored across the board. That’s bizarre.

What does it mean? I have no idea. Virginity maybe?

I thought so yes. Unless there’s a more depraved meaning I don’t know about?

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 16/09/2025 10:52

I’m old enough to remember when Frankie Goes to Hollywood was censored on radio one. I can remember asking my mum and older sister what was in the lyrics that were so bad as I didn’t understand. Of course they wouldn’t tell me. I was so frustrated. Of course I’d google it nowadays

Have you heard of Gary Glitter?

I’d love to say I’d never heard of him but unfortunately he was on the edges of my era. Is he still hiding out in Thailand?

Yes, other artists have also changed lyrics of their songs to avoid mentioning a convicted sex offender in a positive light.

What I do find odd is that rapist Mike Tyson still seems to get a free pass in the entertainment and sports world.

You wanted your mum to explain to you the ins and actual outs of gay sex? I loved FGTH had the albums shocked the parents but they wouldn't say why.

I think I could have probably handled that as a teen and saying nothing doesn't make the ponderance go away. If anything it fuels it! That made headlines for ages.

Kesha changed the wording so they may be blanking it out because that's what she's asked?

Yeah fair but your mum was probably to shy or embarrassed to tell you.

That’s true although it seems that radio stations made have made a blanket decision based on another song also having his name blanked out.

I don’t like the man btw. I don’t care if I never hear one of his songs again, I was just really surprised his name had been censored this morning and thought it was a conversation point.

You are quite aggressive i am not sure why ? I was just giving a perspective why a mother might not want to discuss the mechanics of sex and group gay sex to a young teenager !

Weedkillerworks · 16/09/2025 09:32

And yet Michael Jackson’s songs are still all over the place 🤷🏼‍♀️

Was thinking the same.....

TY78910 · 16/09/2025 09:48

A bit of both I’d say.

You would regularly hear radio stations play ‘clean’ versions of songs - so swear words, the n word etc will be blanked out. It’s not about the artist per se, or whether the song is about a crime or sex (like the Sabrina references), it’s just about keeping it clean for kids. So the reference of ‘feeling like a man who’s been trafficking women for sex which in this context means on top of the world’ is probably one to take out.

But having lots of sexual references isn't keeping it clean for kids is it.

Either it will impart them with inappropriate knowledge about those things, or they will be going round reciting inappropriate lyrics unknowingly....neither is ideal and there should be stricter regulations around it.It's annoying having to keep turning the radio off when my kids are in the car sexual references or even the word 'sexy' appear constantly in songs.

Sabrina carpenter's songs are a prime example.....she is setting an awful example with her sexualised language...those sort of tracks should be solely album tracks and she should have to keep the releases clean.

BerkoFilter · 16/09/2025 15:37

The lyric writers don’t have much to say. Incredible how the creativity seems to have plummeted. Makes “ chirpie chirpie cheep cheep” seems positively innovative in comparison.

you are perceiving aggression when there is none to be found. It’s just words on a screen.
