P Diddy is now being censored out of songs on the radio as though it’s a swear word

How bizarre is that? I don’t even think he wax convicted for most of what they charged him with in the end 😵‍💫

You may think how on earth do I know that name is now censored? Because I’m singing along to Keisha’s Don’t Stop on Capital Anthems and I’m pretty bloody sure me singing P Diddy was correct in the blanked out space. Googled it and yep, what the hell? I feel like these small creeps into censorship are indicative of something I don’t like societally.

Anyone think I’m being unreasonable or would you also be scratching your heads?

I've heard that too.
But no smoke without fire most of the time, so im glad as he sounds like a horrible person.
And glad the radio is actually blocking something in a song out for once....needs to happen more as the amount of blatant sexual references and totally audible swear words on the radio nowadays is ridiculous.

TY78910 · 16/09/2025 09:15

I knew this is the song you’d be referencing when I read the title. The context of that lyric was to say that P Diddy is an aspirational figure, wealthy and successful and so great but in fact he is a rapist and built his fame and success at the expense of women. So in that sense it’s right to be taken out. It would be like saying ‘woke up in the morning feeling like Jimmy Saville’. I mean that would just be fundamentally wrong.

But isn’t that the point though? The stuff that’s still being sung by seven year old girls, Sabrina Carpenter songs for example but plenty of songs historically and yet they go for the name P Diddy to blank out 🤣.

And yet Michael Jackson’s songs are still all over the place 🤷🏼‍♀️

So are we trawling back catalogues now to make sure other people with spurious reputations aren’t referenced? I’m pretty sure Michael Jackson must have been said repeatedly in rap songs and people are absolutely convinced he is a prolific paedophile. R Kelly’s songs are still out there and he actually got convicted of something. Didn’t Jerry Lee Lewis marry some child relative and that song is still played. It’s very very odd to me.

Well last time I checked MJ hasn’t been convicted of anything, yet Diddy is currently awaiting sentencing for transporting individuals across states for prostitution 🤷🏼‍♀️ also, Diddy’s songs still play on the radio, it’s the context in which the name P Diddy is used in this particular lyric that has been taken out

But we are talking about the context of this lyric. That’s why the name has been removed.

Thissickbeat · 16/09/2025 09:38

Sabrina's "Tears" is currently on the radio. It does make me feel like a prude, but it's not offensive, and it is rather fun.

Glad Diddy is being slightly cancelled. Nasty bloke.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 16/09/2025 09:40

I’m aware he wasn’t convicted, my point was that large portions of society has decided MJ is a monster and yet no one is trawling back catalogues to censor his name out.

Anyway a further google tells me Keisha herself is planning to re-record the song with the new lyrics Fuck P Diddy in its place so perhaps the censorship was for her and not us.

A bit of both I’d say.

You would regularly hear radio stations play ‘clean’ versions of songs - so swear words, the n word etc will be blanked out. It’s not about the artist per se, or whether the song is about a crime or sex (like the Sabrina references), it’s just about keeping it clean for kids. So the reference of ‘feeling like a man who’s been trafficking women for sex which in this context means on top of the world’ is probably one to take out.

You seen to lyrics for the Bruno Mars Fat, Juicy and Wet song? I’d love to know how they go handled on the radio.

The alternative is the songs don't get played at all. Like with lost prophets.

I listen to local radios. And it's normal for swear words to be blanked. Depending on the station you listen to. They either just blank out the swear word. But you can still make it out. Or the local stations do heavier censoring.

I'm fine with it. Don't want my kids having to hear that in the mornings. I don't think they're missing out on much by not hearing his name in the morning on the radio.

I think if you're listening on the radio then you have to expect it.

If you've bought the song or streaming it. Then that's different.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 16/09/2025 09:52

I have no issue with swear words being censored!!! I just didn’t know P Diddy was a swear until this morning.

I’ve never heard of being played on mainstream radio though. There is however a clean version of WAP. You can still make out the song is sexual but the physical offensive words are replaced with ‘ahh’.

Pharazon · 16/09/2025 09:58

The edit was made at Kesha's request and she is re-recording the songs that mention his name. I have no problem with this. In fact it's heartening to know she has retained the mechanical rights to her own recordings and is thus able to do this unlike so many other artists, particularly female artists.

lljkk · 16/09/2025 10:00

"I don't like Mondays" is still banned in my home town on radio AFAIK.
Because it's where Brenda Spencer actually shot people.
Swearing isn't only reason to not play a song.

BerkoFilter · 16/09/2025 10:13

If pDiddy doesn’t get convicted it will be a very corrupt law avoidance.. there are so many people making it clear he’s a psychopath who did systematically evil things over a long period of time. Stopping using his name is a good idea, surely.

Coffeeishot · 16/09/2025 10:18

Keisha has changed the live lyrics to her song and the replacement isn't radio friendly. Sean combs is a convicted criminal for crimes against women , im glad he is being "blanked out".

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 16/09/2025 10:18

His name was blanked out of Cake by the Ocean on R2 the other weekend. I looked up the lyrics because I couldn't work out what had been censored.

Interesting. What radio station?

Censorship and prohibition has never been tolerated well in democracies so I do find it interesting how many people are happy to have others determine that names are now so abhorrent our ears shouldn’t hear them.

Do you really not see the difference between an artist changing the lyrics of their own song and state-mandated censorship?

Have you heard of Gary Glitter?

PinkArt · 16/09/2025 10:23

Given Kesha's own history, with Dr Luke specifically, is the change not one she's made rather than the radio station?

stanleycups · 16/09/2025 10:23

I heard Nickelback’s Rockstar on the radio recently and there were several words censored, not just swear words. I found it a bit strange. The P Diddy one makes more sense.
