How many kids do you have if you are a woman earning over 80k a year?

Just wondering after a colleague said women who earn high salaries tend not to have children or to have an only child. I’m not sure I agree I actually see that pattern amongst colleagues although it would make sense.

One child, 87K, single parent.

One child single parent £140k package

LittleBearPad · 09/09/2025 07:06

Two.

  1. Thinking about the other women on my grade at work, all of those who have children have at least 2. One has 3 and 3 step kids in a blended family.
Stripytee · 09/09/2025 07:08

150k and I have four. It’s quite unusual, most around me who do have kids have one or two. But I haven’t got to where I should be, probably not because of kids but also my lack of motivation

TheaBrandt1 · 09/09/2025 07:08

Two. Quite sufficient.

Elektra1 · 09/09/2025 07:08

I have 3 kids and earn 6 figures. I was a single parent to the first 2 kids for the first 10 years of my career and am a single parent again now

DeafLeppard · 09/09/2025 07:10

Two

A good friend of mine earns about 90k and has one child.

The reason she has one child isn’t in any way related to her salary, it’s because pregnancy and birth and the early years were shit.

2

3 kids

Pharazon · 09/09/2025 07:12

One child, 135k personal. 220ish household. No mortgages, no school fees, no loans.

I work in tech and one or none is a very common pattern in my industry.

Windthebloodybobbinup · 09/09/2025 07:12

Two children- I work with a senior management team dominated by women which massively helps!

Lafufufu · 09/09/2025 07:13

2 here.

I think with a 3rd I'd struggle badly to manage in my job / be a good mother/ invest energy in marriage and retain any semblance of self.
That isnt why we arent having one though its our ages/ my health.

In my "high earning" office (tech) i only ever knew ONE women with 3 kids - the youngest was 10 or 11 when she joined....which was how she managed/ it was possible i think.
Our roles are very very rarely PT and if they are its 4 days and ypu prob still do 4.5 days work AND only because your line manager pushed hard for it so if they leave and you get a new boss, the PT may go....

Just under 100k and have 2. Can’t afford more believe it or not

Two and ditto. Not that I'd want anymore to be fair, I'm too old now! Had them late too as did a lot of the women I work with.

MindytheWonderHorse · 09/09/2025 07:17

Two. IME high achieving women often have lots because a) they can afford the childcare (or non-warning spouse) and b) they like to outperform. Look at Helena Morrissey!

bumbaloo · 09/09/2025 07:21

Average number of dc a woman has in the UK is 1.44. Just over half of women do not have dc by 30 thus reducing the number of fertile years which suggests birth rates are falling even more and that 1.44 will be even lower by the time this cohort of women of reproductive age reaches menopause.

Most women (or men) do not earn over 80k so by the small study in this post suggests women earning over 80k are if anything, having more than the average number of dc

publicservice · 09/09/2025 07:21

One kid. Single parent. £100k. Tidy.

Volpini · 09/09/2025 07:22

I earn 85k. Household income - £160k.
Both work FT in corporate rather than self employed.
2 kids.
In my organisation, 2 kids is normal (I don’t know how - it’s bloody hard work.) Where I live, I don’t know anyone else who both work FT with kids, but then I live somewhere quite blue collar and traditional.

EnglishRain · 09/09/2025 07:23

One child

DancingNotDrowning · 09/09/2025 07:23

I’m a very high earner and have 4.

At a very senior level I often feel like it’s one extreme or the other: lots of women with no children and lots of women with at least 4.

Of the women in their 30/40 reporting into me they all have no children or one child.

PegDope · 09/09/2025 07:24

One!

YaWeeFurryBastard · 09/09/2025 07:24

One and will hopefully have a second, and possibly a third. I don’t know any senior women in my workplace with more than 2, but 2 is definitely the most common.
