I think we have it narrowed down between 2... she's my 3rd and final baby girl so needs to be perfect.
List has been whittled down from about 14 names...
Harmony or Vanessa?

OP posts:

Out of those, I'd go for Vanessa. I quite like it anyway and don't object to the usual shortenings.

Harmony was a brand of hairspray. Might still be.

CherryOakAsh · 05/09/2025 17:10

Vanessa is a lovely name that is quite underused nowadays. I like it!

honeyrider · 05/09/2025 17:10

Harmony reminds me of sex toys/shops or hairspray.

Neither from me too, sorry.

and 24hrs isn’t long, give yourself a minute.

what about Vivienne?

Tablesandchairs23 · 05/09/2025 17:13

Neither. Harmony sounds like a strippers name.

Tam285 · 05/09/2025 17:18

Harmony sounds like a chav name to me - or a stripper. Vanessa is 100 times better.

I quite like Vanessa. A friend’s DD is Vanessa but is often called Ness. So depends if that would bother you.

What about Vivienne? Vivi quite cute for a nickname.

I always wanted a Phoebe. Sadly only had a boy and it didn’t suit him!

If my son had been a girl I wanted to call her Vivienne . It beautiful. I know it's actually also a boy's name - Vivian - but I would never have called my son that .

I really like Vanessa. I've not come across any modern day Vanessa's. I used to really admire Vanessa Redgrave so the name conjours up a beautiful, strong talented woman for me.

Congratulations on your lovely wee baby OP.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 05/09/2025 17:19

Vanessa, Harmony, Melody, Madison, Jessica, Phoebe, Aria/Arya, Joy and suchlike are the names of kids we've regularly had to stop from tearing lumps out of one another on the playground over the last five years.

Not had to do it with a Vivienne, Violet, Valerie, Valentina, Verity, Constance or Felicity, though.

UtterlyOtterly · 05/09/2025 17:20

I used to know a Harmony. Despite being a cheerful child her school friends called her Mony, pronounced moany.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 05/09/2025 17:21

I like Vanessa, but the only Vanessa's I know are in their 50s and both get called Ness.

I really dislike Harmony.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 05/09/2025 17:28

Venetia
Posy

Vanessa but the danger is being called Nessie as a nickname.
Probably would go for something else tbh

Better than Harmony shortened to Harm.

BeaLola · 05/09/2025 18:58

Not keen on either , sorry

Like others would like to know the names rejected

Harmony for me - reminds me of the protagonist in The Queen’s Nose!

LadyGrillingSole · 05/09/2025 19:09

Tabitha 😍

If I'd had a 2nd daughter that would be her name. Maybe I could use it for my next hound.....🤔

Mumof2amazingasdkiddos · 05/09/2025 19:09

If it helps DD was 36hrs old and poor DS was 6 days old before they were named! It's an important decision so don't rush it. Try both names out (including abbreviations) for half a day/a day and see which one feels right, if neither do then go back to the drawing board, its ok to take a little time and you have i think 6 weeks to register so there isn't a real rush, don't be pressured by family/friends/anyone just sit with her and enjoy her and the right name will come. Congratulations on your new baby girl xx

Sixtimesnow · 05/09/2025 19:13

Charity, Melissa

Shivaughn · 05/09/2025 19:18

Vanessa is really lovely but I just don’t like the Ness/Nessie/Nessa nicknames :/

mnahmnah · 05/09/2025 19:19

Melody

Francesca (Frankie)

LovelySunnyDayToday · 05/09/2025 19:19

How about Violet or Eloise?

LovelySunnyDayToday · 05/09/2025 19:20

Tablesandchairs23 · 05/09/2025 17:13

whatwasthatnoise · 05/09/2025 19:22

Are those the 2 names you and DP can agree on, narrowed down?
What are your other childrens' names?
Of the 2 options I'd go for Vanessa. But if I had the choice, I'd choose neither.
Morven, Flora, Morag were some of our girl named options.

Edit* my nephew was at least 2 weeks old before he had a name other than baby. Plenty time to decide the right name.

DoctorMarten · 05/09/2025 19:24

My friend Vanessa does not let anyone shorten her name. It’s a lovely name
