Does everyone on MN earn loads of money!?

for context, I earn 27K per annum and so does my husband. We have one DC. We are early 30s.

I just feel all the posts I read on here more or less everyone is loaded. Don’t get me wrong we can comfortably pay our bills but we have to save for anything big (holiday Xmas etc)

we still private rent. I’d love a mortgage but it’s not gonna be in the next 5 years for us.

everyone on MN seems to have huge houses, loads of holidays and multiple DC’s 🫣

Ha ha definitely not!

I'm a nurse freewheeling down to retirement. I do Bank shifts as I don't want to work f/t or on the same team. I work 2-3 shifts a week. My husband is a retired HCA. We have some savings from an inheritance from when my parents died.....not millions but its there as a cushion. We live in a 3 bed terrace house in Somerset.

I'm no fashionista, I buy my clothes in supermarkets, Peacocks etc. Food is bought in Lidl and Sainsbury's.

We eat out about once or twice a month but places like the pub, pizza restaurants etc.

We have just had a holiday in the USA for 10 days but that was because my husband's nephew was getting married and they live in the States. Our last holiday abroad before that was shortly before the pandemic when we went to NYC for 5 nights for our 25th anniversary. We've got a dog so like to go on dog friendly holidays in the UK so self catering accommodation etc.

We're not poor but not rich and live within our means.

No I’m a HLTA but DH is the main breadwinner. and has company car. Still not a massive income though. We are in our 50s and mortgage repaid a while ago. DC are working adults and one moved out so our expenditure is not high. We save a lot and are investing for our future.

A lot of teenagers think making up posts on mumsnet is fun. Dont believe everything you see posted here, especially in school holidays.

I despair of the youth of today if they think trolling Mumsnet counts as “fun”. Can’t they just go and drink cider in the park while snogging unsuitable people like in the good old days?

I think the idea of teenagers trolling Mumsnet is an urban myth !

What do you do op that is really low wage for early 30s?

It’s not just young people who are on low salaries. Think of all the people who are in minimum wage jobs at the time of retirement. All the middle aged care assistants and shop workers. And interestingly, a lot of older workers when they first started work in the 1980s before NMW would have been employed at some point on a wage lower than minimum wage. Several scale points have been knocked off the bottom of LA salary scales as they would have come out lower than the living wage now paid. Obviously in those days, housing was relatively cheaper so I guess it’s not quite comparing like with like, but still…

Don't worry, it is only on MN where you are judged for what you earn at a particular age. My mum has been a cleaner for most of her life. My dad left the workforce in his early 60s due to ill health, and he was on min wage.
DP is mid 50s and on just over £30k.

Well only 2% of the population earns over 120k but they all seem to be on MN.

No

My dh does I guess but my adult children don’t. They really struggle and we’re hoping to be able to help them at one point.
