I cannot believe how crazy the “intended” mother sounds. I used to believe there wasn’t an issue with surrogacy but now I feel it should be banned. Wow!

Why didn’t you think there was an issue with surrogacy?

AhBiscuits · 04/09/2025 20:37

I can't read it, but I've always thought it was wrong. You should not be able to buy the use of someone else's body.

IGaveSoManySigns · 04/09/2025 20:37

This should work!

Personally I was of the view that if both parties consented, it was okay

Thanks. I think that’s not an uncommon view (it was mine in the past). But of course that ignores the baby. Planning to remove a baby from its mother at the earliest opportunity is always wrong. And then you have the drugs involved, the ethics of renting a womb and ordering of a human being… the list just goes on.

There was an awful story of a couple complaining about the baby they’d ordered being stuck in Ukraine (the surrogacy capital of Europe) after Russia invaded with nary a thought given to the post-partum woman being left in a war zone. Disgusting amoral people.

Except the most important thing in the whole surrogacy transaction cannot consent - that’s the baby.

IGaveSoManySigns · 04/09/2025 20:49

I can see that now - like I said it’s changed my mind.

Can you just explain what happened?

Justwrong68 · 04/09/2025 21:03

There were a couple of “celebs” on this morning last week moaning about negative feedback they got from their surrogacy journey they’d posted to socials. They were saying it was homophobic. You’d think that if you were involved in something that serious, you’d research the downsides and question the controversy instead of just thinking about how it effects you.

Kendodd · 04/09/2025 20:50

It’s quite unbelievable- I posted the link a second time which links to the article.

in short a woman used a surrogate and the baby died. She is now suing the mother, claiming she committed medical negligence

Wouldn't change my mind.

I've always detested surrogacy.

Children are not a right and they are definitely NOT a product to be bought and sold to order.

But it’s so much worse than that summary can convey. You need to read the article.

I’ve read the article OP posted. It is long and absolutely insane. I cannot do it justice here but this is a broad summary.

The surrogacy ended in a stillbirth due to placental abruption, the surrogate nearly died. The biological mother has basically spent hundreds of thousands suing the surrogate, and wants her arrested for murder. She also texted a picture of the dead baby to the surrogate’s 7 year old son.
At the same time that surrogate was pregnant, the couple (the father seems less keen on the lawsuit stuff) also had another surrogate as they wanted boy/girl twins but were told implanting two eggs in one woman was dangerous so they went for two women. That woman lost 5.5 litres of blood, had to have a hysterectomy and was in ICU after the birth. But the biological mum said it all went well, and that she’d had a much better experience with that surrogate than the one who suffered the stillbirth.

But no baby can consent to his or her own existence, under any circumstances. So how is this a central part of the argument against surrogacy?

Danikm151 · 04/09/2025 21:19

Wow!

Bi is unhinged.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 04/09/2025 21:21

I havent read the story but I am steadfastly against surrogacy

I'm a woke leftie but these wealthy celebs (and non famous people) and wealthy gay guys pose a real harm to women🥺

Edit - that woman is the epitome of evil

Using the body of one women and the egg of another and cutting both out of the baby's life is appalling.

MrsLizzieDarcy · 04/09/2025 21:24

It's a ticking time bomb for all the children who will one day find out how they came into the world. A friend was adopted and never got their head round the trauma even though they were blessed to have good adoptive parents. There was always that "but why did they give me away" in their head and once they became a parent themselves, it was a monster that grew and grew - and very nearly destroyed them.

Because you’re deliberately engineering a situation whereby a baby is removed from its birth mother at birth which is harmful to the baby. Yes, there are situations where a baby has to be removed due to negligence/ abuse concerns but everyone agrees that that only happens when it is ( on balance) in the baby’s interests.

Well done for being big enough to change your mind and admit it (that looks so sarcastic written down but I promise it isn't).

PyongyangKipperbang · 04/09/2025 21:42

Bi is not right in the head.

She is out to destroy a woman because something tragic happened, and gloss over what her second surrogate went through too. Interesting that the medical histories of Bi and her husband were not fully disclosed when they may have had a bearing on both outcomes.

Anyone else notice the comment about her outgoings including her "(sixth) nanny"? Sounds she is a completely nasty piece of work in all areas of her life.

And poor, desperate women’s bodies should not be available for hire. It’s never aristocracy or the Nancy Clooneys of this world offering up their wombs or eggs free of charge for the benefit of the childless, is it?
