Something you used to want, which you still like, but don't want anymore?

I used to have a yen for a big diamond. My engagement ring was lovely and I still love it (despite no longer being married) but I still also really wanted a lovely diamond.

I love looking at diamond rings in shop windows. The ones I like are at least 5K and upwards. Not blingy rings. Elegant but expensive.

The thing is, I no longer really want one. I think they're pointless. I can't bear jewellery on my hands/wrists and I don't ever want to be 'labelled' by an engagement ring. Nor do I want a costume ring. I'm not that type.

But I still love a pretty, tasteful diamond ring. Just not on me.

A beautiful house in the countryside.
On paper it’s the dream but I have realised I’m
a city girl at heart and would hate to live more than a brisk walk from civilisation.

Me too! There is a part of the coast, where the houses are VERY affordable. I'd love one. I would LOVE a house where I could sit and watch the sea in winter, when it's stormy but I'm inside and warm. But at my age, I need to live somewhere sensible, ready for the next life stage, where I'll need to be near a GP, supermarket, etc etc.

So although I could easily afford a house in my desired location, it's just a dream now.

Louboutins. Used to lust after them, now they look like torture instruments.

A relationship, I used to really worry that I was single (and it led me into a couple of not good relationships) and dreaded getting older and being alone.
I revel in it now, I don't think I could compromise to the point of marriage and sharing every part of my life now because I'm so used to dancing to my own tune.
That may or may not have changed as menopause is approaching! I have lovely friends and family who I spend time with and enjoy being around but I don't want a relationship the way I used to.

bestcatlife · 02/09/2025 21:32

Sex. (And to be honest I don't think I even like it anymore)

Myjobisridiculous · 02/09/2025 21:36

New season fashion!!
I love clothes, but it’s all so boring. All about the fashion industry turning a profit. No substance

Okrr · 02/09/2025 21:38

A big garden. I now prefer more house space.

Echobelly · 02/09/2025 21:38

A tattoo.

Towards end of uni I really wanted one for a, while, something fairly sizeable.

Ultimately got put off at the time by the fact that they look less good over time. And also because I knew I just wanted it in part to look cool and alternative but they were clearly becoming pretty mainstream so it wouldn't project what I wanted anyway.

I still like tattoos, but can't be bothered with one for me. My oldest turns 18 next year and is raring to get some though! DH and I have OK'd in principle but told him he has to clear design with us because we'll have a better idea of what might be regrettable!

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 02/09/2025 21:40

A Newfoundland. It would be my ideal dog but I’d get resentful at all the things I would need to change in my life to really accommodate it and I’m tired enough with the bloody kids.

I borrow the neighbour’s Corgi instead.

mamagogo1 · 02/09/2025 21:41

Take aways, used to eat many, moved house and whilst I like the food, so little choice here that I do actually want them plus I cook far better than the food they sell (or most restaurants if I want to bragGrin)

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/09/2025 21:44

A husky.

And a Tesla LOL

SoftandQuiet · 02/09/2025 21:44

To go to the Notting Hill carnival. It's got too big, and I'm worried about getting crushed.

Startthecar · 02/09/2025 22:04

I used to want to have an outdoor swimming pool.
My DC's would have loved to have played in one in summers past and I think it would have been so much fun.
DCs grown now, and especially after this very hot summer I still wished we had one.
However I have a friend who does have a pool, and she is in it virtually every day of the summer.
Yes I go in it too, and although I still think it would be nice, I realise the nicest time would have been when the DC's were little and I now know first- hand how much work and money goes into a pool's upkeep!

Tickets to Glastonbury - I still do festivals but small ones and much prefer to watch on TV , laid on my sofa with my bathroom nearby and a glass of something decent and cold :-)

DracunculusVulgaris · 02/09/2025 22:12

Without being flippant - my partner - the relationship has run its course and it is time to leave and experience freedom, peace of mind and the joy of being myself again...

Screamingabdabz · 02/09/2025 22:13

A home office. God I’d still love the space but a home office? How bloody boring. What was I thinking?

whitewineandsun · 02/09/2025 22:15

A pet.

FurForksSake · 02/09/2025 22:18

As said up thread, to go to festivals. Also just camping in general, I want to be that person but I’m just too physically broken and it wouldn’t match the idea in my head.

SeaAndStars · 02/09/2025 22:18

A career.
A busy social life.
High heels.

tobee · 02/09/2025 22:25

Al Pacino

Planesmistakenforstars · 03/09/2025 00:18

Mr Frosty.

coxesorangepippin · 03/09/2025 01:38

A really demanding job

VoltaireMittyDream · 03/09/2025 01:49

A dog. Used to pine for a dog. I’d stare at dogs in the street like a weirdo. Always thinking of dog names.

Now I still love hanging out with other people’s dogs but the dog broodiness has passed.

VoltaireMittyDream · 03/09/2025 01:51

Ooh also handbags. Used to think having a posh handbag would mean I was finally a really grown up lady. The moment passed and I’m now firmly in my capacious sturdy rucksack era.
