Something you used to want, which you still like, but don't want anymore?

I used to have a yen for a big diamond. My engagement ring was lovely and I still love it (despite no longer being married) but I still also really wanted a lovely diamond.

I love looking at diamond rings in shop windows. The ones I like are at least 5K and upwards. Not blingy rings. Elegant but expensive.

The thing is, I no longer really want one. I think they're pointless. I can't bear jewellery on my hands/wrists and I don't ever want to be 'labelled' by an engagement ring. Nor do I want a costume ring. I'm not that type.

But I still love a pretty, tasteful diamond ring. Just not on me.

A Qooker tap.
I used to think how clever to be able to make a cup of tea straight from the tap, until I got one. The most pointlessly expensive thing in my kitchen.

A bean to cup coffee machine. Ridiculously expensive, but I wanted one. Tried every way to justify buying one. In the end I just carried on with my old Nespresso. I’m still using it now. Bean to cup machine just a distant dream.

As a child and teen I always wanted a pony/ horse (used to help out then work in a stables). I vowed as an adult I’d one day have one but after kids the thought of having one and trying to juggle looking after him/ her made me shudder. The dog now takes up all (way too much!) of my time!!

Also always intended on getting ear pierced hear top of ear, now I’m not sure it would suit me

A holiday home.

A boob job!
had kids young and by 22 they were sad and deflated. If woke up tomorrow and they were perky and round again I’ll be honest I’d be happy but I’m actually totally fine and accepting of the way they are now and I don’t feel self conscious of them anymore when I’m on the beach or generally in swimwear. I swim about 4 times a week so I’m in swimmers often!
Sort of glad in a way I was never brave enough to have them done, I’d have had to have replaced them by now already and it’s an ongoing commitment unless you just remove them at which point id
presume they’d be even more deflated!

A matching antique dining table and chairs. Ironically I will probably finally be living with a set like this in my 60s as dp’s elderly mum has one and her health isn’t great. However, I’m not eyeing it up every time she coughs! In the meantime I’m happy with my table and the random chairs i have. Lots of memories of times at that table.

My ex husband. Still like him but don't want him. Glad someone else has got him!

A farm type house on a chunk of land (think 20 acres or so), with horses, chickens and maybe goats. I grew up on that type of property with animals.

Now I want to cry thinking how hard it would be to have to maintain it all, and be responsible for EVEN MORE things/animals every day.

Two kids, a dog, and a house with a small garden to maintain while working full time nearly kills me off as it is!

Thanks! I can stop hankering after one now.

Like a pp, a lovely old house in a village by the sea. Rambling and romantic.

However, now I live in a new build that is warm, secure and sturdy I couldn't possibly go back to damp and old. My house has no character but I've made it lovely inside and it suits my needs now!

I used to have this dream that if I won the lottery ( which I don't play so the chances are admittedly slim) that I would go to my childhood home and make them an offer they couldn't refuse, to buy it.

I now realise it would be impractical for various reasons. Lack of parking, on a big hill, not close enough to amenities. And I could be wrong but I think the thrill of being there would quickly wear off and I'd just be quietly miserable that it didn't actually turn out to be a time machine, transporting me back to when I still had my lovely dad and was happiest. (I suspect this is my subconscious reason for yearning to live there.)

Ha ha! I've been left alone in two friends' kitchens who have them. I cannot for the life of me make them work - even having been shown - so no tea for me.

(In the first case I thought I'll just boil some water on the hob. That's the state of the art hob with no apparent controls... 😥)

I had one for my B&B - there were about half a dozen parts that had to be dismantled and cleaned every day. Total ballache. And I don't even drink coffee.

A tight knit group of friends like Sex and the City.

Yeah realised I'm of introvert personality type and people exhaust me!

A flat in Zone 1. I loved the idea of sitting by the window 2 or 3 floors up in peace and quiet while watching the world go by and the people below going about their lives.

SeaAndStars · 03/09/2025 09:16

@PearlsPearl I totally agree. I've just spent two years renovating a neglected two hundred year old cottage and surrounding garden. I'm completely broken by the one step forward, three steps backwards process, the damp, draughts, the expense and undoing decades of rubbish work badly done on the cheap.

I'm now at the resentful stage and longing for modern, clean lines, good insulation, big windows. It's going on the market in the spring.

Thanks. I Definatly don’t need one.

36Bs and a cleavage! That’s when I was in my teens/very early 20s. For a long time now though I’ve been very glad of being relatively under-endowed - starting right after the birth of dd1, when what I had was a lot easier to cope with than the hot concrete footballs some of the other mothers had.
