Well handing my notice in that is. The relief is overwhelming. 13 years and I can’t do it anymore.

Don’t know why I’m posting but I just needed to tell someone.

Congrats! I understand! You'll never regret this!

Comeinupto40 · 31/08/2025 22:41

Congratulations!
It’s 9 years and 6 months since I did the same! Never once regretted it.
What future adventure awaits you?

nagnagnag · 31/08/2025 22:42

I’ve been there too! Well done for taking that step.

everychildmatters · 31/08/2025 22:44

Amazing news! I left after 20 years in and one of the best decisions I ever made! What are you going to do for work now, OP?
Well done you! 👏

Fullofpudding · 31/08/2025 22:47

I’m joining the NHS. Out of the frying pan and into the fire!! I’m hoping my patients will appreciate me more than my students do.

Well done OP, it’s liberating. I’m also going to be handing in my notice in the next week or two in a job I’m starting to hate.

The knowledge that I’m leaving soon will get me through the stressful days.

Best of luck with your new role.

everychildmatters · 31/08/2025 22:55

Do you think parents realise just how many of us are walking?!!!

Maddy70 · 31/08/2025 22:57

I did 16 years. Utterly awful the last year. I have zero regrets (apart from my bank balance!)

Silvertulips · 31/08/2025 22:57

2 year 7 months!!

Wouldn’t go back.

PattySpringsteensHorse · 31/08/2025 23:00

I hear you! I made it to 22 years, enjoy the freedom 🥰. I never look back.

everychildmatters · 31/08/2025 23:01

It's nice to know I'm not 'flaky' having left after 20 years in. Now an EOTAS Tutor. Pay not comparable but work-life balance amazing.

imsotiredohsotired · 31/08/2025 23:06

What are you all doing instead? Please share...

everychildmatters · 31/08/2025 23:07

See above 😀

Blueberrycake12 · 31/08/2025 23:08

I left after a year. 13 years?! You're a saint!

Woofie7 · 31/08/2025 23:08

Good luck . There is a world after teaching even if it’s still education

Hedgehogsahoy · 31/08/2025 23:09

Another member of thIs wonderful club. I skipped round the house for weeks after leaving. Well done you!

Choclabratwatowner88 · 31/08/2025 23:09

As a parent, I absolutely don’t blame you. I wouldn’t be able to teach, especially some kids, I’d probs nearly throttle some of them. I’m pretty laid back but the thought of teaching would send me into a tailspin. Although it sucks that very good teachers are getting driven out. Obviously I know it’s not just pupils. Just know there are groups of us that know that all teachers aren’t to blame. I also know that there’s the odd teacher that uses thier power wrongly and imo shouldn’t be teachers. I’ve noticed the best teachers are getting pulled in to SLT roles which is not viable in my opinion. Back in year 6 my son had a fantastic teacher, he’s autistic and she understood him better than anyone, she was new aswell. He actually enjoyed going to school. She then taught my daughter twice and then got pulled into SLT. Same happened with a Sen teacher in high school, fantastic teacher, understood my son, they had a good repor, they replaced her with a useless women who sent my son on a downward spiral. And the other teacher stepped in and got him back on track. I know there’s some good ones out there. Government need to do something.

Are you able to leave before Christmas if you're in England? I had to work almost 4 months notice :-( when I got a new job right at the start of the Autumn term.

BlackeyedSusan · 01/09/2025 13:03

Congratulations!

LarkspurLane · 01/09/2025 13:04

Congratulations!
What did you teach?

DS has left school and starts college tomorrow, so I am just pleased you lasted as long as you did!

If you're looking for appreciation you've picked the wrong careers!

Middlemarch123 · 01/09/2025 14:23

I left teaching after twenty years last year, it very nearly broke me. Actually, that’s a lie, the teaching was fine, it was SLT that nearly finished me off! The endless targets, out of hours meetings and ridiculous new ‘strategies’ that were set with no warning.

Best decision, am now a dog walker and love it, Felt another huge surge of relief this morning because my old colleagues were in for inset. Inset days are amazing, said no teacher, ever.

Enjoy your future and new career OP.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 01/09/2025 14:26

37 years in the NHS and I’m out next year. It’s hideous.
Very good luck to you.

Zippidydoodah · 01/09/2025 14:28

I’m also in your club! 👋
congratulations 😁😁😁

Fridgetapas · 01/09/2025 14:30
