I usually bring nice soap, cheap wine and cider, and little cheese apéro biscuits. What else would you recommend?

Cheese no longer allowed -not sure about meat.

Blueberrycake12 · 27/08/2025 21:46

Creme de Cassis , creme de peche and creme de mure - all to mix with prosecco or white wine.

Belmondo · 27/08/2025 21:48

Thanks but I have some Cassis at home from previous trips 😁

We also sometimes buy those tins of sausages and lentils, which are weirdly delicious for camping trips.

This mint liqueur.. crème de menthe basically but hardly anywhere sells it in the Uk. Probably because it’s only me and a friend that drink it tbf!

We always have "fun" in the supermarket working out how much crémant d'Alsace (sparkling wine so reduced amount now allowed) and single malt whisky we can get.

Faceonthewrongfoot · 27/08/2025 21:50

Salad dressing. I bloody love the big cheap bottles you get in France and can't find anything remotely like it in the UK.

Thunderdcc · 27/08/2025 21:51

Nothing because the car is so tightly packed but if we had space we would bring back the various sirop they have instead of squash and the tomato ketchup flavour ghost crisps.

janehopper · 27/08/2025 22:01

Every Flavour of Bret's crisps. Sausage and lentils and cassoulet tins. Fill the cracks in the car with wine bottles. Soaps, le petit Marseillais is a third of the price in e le clerc than it is on Amazon.

janehopper · 27/08/2025 22:02

Oh you said soap 😁

MarxistMags · 27/08/2025 22:03

Mustard !

StanfreyPock · 27/08/2025 22:08

Shampoo for grey hair called 'Age Sublime, Blanc Chic' - great name, excellent shampoo!
Also love Le Petit Marseillais body moisturiser in a tub.

Survivor2020 · 27/08/2025 22:09

Large packets of Bonne mamman madeleines and jam. They're half the price for double the quantity. Petit Swiss and French set yogurts if you have a cold box. Their Butter is also very pure.

Beamur · 27/08/2025 22:12

DH wasn't allowed to bring back cassoulet a few weeks ago. Confiscated from his bags and denied in duty free! Might be different if driving..More restrictions due to some animal disease stuff..

CantHaveTooMuchChocolate · 27/08/2025 22:19

Garlic 😳 And wine of course!

Cheese no longer allowed -not sure about meat.

Cheese, dairy and meat are currently not allowed, I think because there’s been some cases of foot and mouth in Poland and Germany. I suspect that most travellers have no idea about this ban as it’s hardly been publicised and I saw no signage at the port to inform about this. I did see a single, easy to miss, A4 size sheet about it on the ferry but that was all.

Beamur · 27/08/2025 22:24

Garlic was allowed 😁

PestoHoliday · 27/08/2025 22:26

Petit LU biscuits

wonderstuff · 27/08/2025 22:29

Cordial with all the sugar still in it, peache tea one is a favourite in our house. Last time we were in Calais all the Brits were buying all the squash and complaining about sugar tax..

Toogoodtowaste · 27/08/2025 22:31

Petit Marsellais soap/refills
Marseille soap for laundry
Champignons a la Grecque
Tinned Mont Blanc pistachio cream dessert
Tinned sardines a l'escabeche
Tinned couscous legumes (vegetables)
Mustard mayo tubes
Jams (mirabelle, fig etc)
Long life pots of apple/chestnut/pear etc puree
Chestnut cream
Blé noir flour for galettes
Mixa hand cream
Marseille soap cleaning spray
Cristalle aerosol face mist

Toogoodtowaste · 27/08/2025 22:33

And crisps. The peanut flavour ones and the vinegar (only vinegar, no salt) and cheese flavoured walkers style ones.

DiscoBob · 27/08/2025 22:34

Big bags of lovely sea salt. It's so cheap there!
Plenty of cheese..but not the super strongest smelliest soft cheeses. They stink out the whole fridge and house!
Wine
Beer
Brandy
Bread but it would get eaten on the train/plane.
Horse meat steak. Not sure if it would keep on the journey though?
Spicy and herbed saussicon sec.

TheChosenTwo · 27/08/2025 22:35

We brought back some cheese last summer, driving and we didn’t have it taken away from us if it wasn’t allowed!
We also had a couple of cases of red wine, perfectly drinkable for about €6 euro a bottle - absolute bargain and we’ve got 2 bottles left. May need to go back soon, we stopped in Dinard on the way home for a couple of nights and it was so pretty I fancy returning just to wander about there a bit more!

Bichette · 27/08/2025 22:36

Cassegrain tinned ratatouille
grenadine sirop

Rocketpants50 · 27/08/2025 22:37

Mustard in little glasses.
Mayonnaise
Vichy mints
Sadly no cheese
Wine
Sardines - tinned
Then maybe a jam or something regional.
