And I'd love to spend a few months in Iceland, but I don't fancy living there in the winter.

I already live in Germany. I think if it was just a year in each place I'd pick very differently to places where I'd choose to stay permanently.

USA definitely on the list for a year - seems like a fascinating place to live but I would be too nervous about medical debt to want to live there permanently.

Somewhere in Asia, probably Malaysia or Singapore? I would love to say Japan or South Korea just for the total difference in culture, but I think they speak a lot of English in Malaysia and everyone I know who has lived in Singapore absolutely adores it.

Australia for sure, though I'm terrified of the summers and the wildlife. I would have to live next door to my Aussie friend who moved back there and go crying to her for help every time!

Somewhere in Africa, maybe Cape Town as I have a friend who lives there too. Maybe I would just pick a friend to live near each year! If we are doing that, then the Asian country could be Japan, because DH has a friend who lives there.

Not sure what to pick for the last year. I'm torn between trying to do all of the continents and picking South/Central America, but unsure which country exactly, there's no stand out place that makes me think yes I definitely want to try that. Maybe a Caribbean island? They look beautiful and I have always wanted to go there.

Oh and my assumption on the terms is - budget works out magically, but you can't just live in a castle or something. You live in a typical house like locals of a median income do. If people on a median income can't usually afford a car, you don't get a car, etc. You probably rent rather than own in any case, since it's just for a year.

You can either do your current job remotely, if the internet connection is good enough, or you can work locally in a similar field or in another area where you can transfer your skills. Magic takes care of visas and qualification equivalents, and you have whatever access to healthcare etc is typical for locals on a median income. Or perhaps you choose to live somewhere that doesn't need a traditional job e.g. moving to some kind of remote off-grid commune or where people live off the land.

DC either go to local schools, or you can home school them if it's legal there and you don't need to work to live, or you could put them into international/expat type schools if you live in an urban area and that kind of thing exists.

I'm assuming I can’t change anything about my life so I need to go to places where I can make it work with existing skill set - ie I can’t magically speak fluent Italian and then a year later magically speak fluent Spanish.
