Florida holiday - awful weather

Just a moan really 🙁Arrived in Florida, near Clearwater, for a beach holiday with teens and it’s rained and thundered for 4 days now. I’m beyond fed up. We have 6 days left and forecast is nothing but rain.

That’s miserable. We had a hurricane once in July, sun came out on day we were going home 🙄

Sunshine1858 · 24/08/2025 22:05

I’d always thought the season in Florida is November to April because of the dubious weather in the summer?

PrivateMusic · 24/08/2025 22:09

Sorry but you’ve chosen to go during hurricane season.

I knew someone would be along and blame you for going in hurricane season! I have been to Florida 7 times between childhood and adulthood. Always in August. Last time was 3 years ago. Yes there has been some thunderstorms, but they are short lived and the sun comes back out. Never has a holiday been ruined.

So OP, it is not you being silly for booking this time of year. You have just had very very bad luck and I really feel for you. Florida is an amazing place and the money it costs to go there makes it even more upsetting. I hope you get better weather to enjoy the rest of it. Is the weather better inland?

Well of course it’s luck. What a ridiculous reply 😂

Wow. I was trying to be reassuring. Whereas you are being mean to OP and rude to me.

ItsMyIssue · 24/08/2025 22:20

Wow, clearly I need to choose my only holiday better. I’m glad to see it’s more enjoyable to put each other down that hold each other up.

My family live in Clearwater and we always visit either September or October (understand you’ve got kids of school age so not easy to take them out/fines etc) but July and August are always iffy as it’s so humid, the storms are bad. We’ve been caught in a couple of hurricanes over the years but it’s normally around 29c, a 10 min downpour in the afternoon then bright blue skies again and then electrical storms at night which we love sitting and watching. I really hope it improves soon for you!

MellowPinkDeer · 24/08/2025 22:22

This is Florida in August!! Terrible time of year to go

Radiatorvalves · 24/08/2025 22:29

We were there 11 years ago in August and had fab weather. Sorry you’ve been so unfortunate.

Rosybud88 · 24/08/2025 22:31

It’s rainy season sadly - really bad luck though on the constant forecast. Florida rain can be savage!

Julen7 · 24/08/2025 22:39

It’s hurricane season 🤷‍♀️

The most active time for hurricanes is mid August to mid October so of course people are going to mention hurricane season. It is unfortunate the weather has been rubbish but at the same time anyone booking in hurricane season should be prepared that it might not always be sunshine

Rude.
The poster was answering previous replies. They weren’t suggesting it wasn’t bad luck.

MrsBungle · 24/08/2025 23:16

It’s rainy season? I loved Clearwater. We went in November.

IwanttotakeyoutoaNailaBar · 24/08/2025 23:20

I used to live in Florida. It’s a massive state with different weather in different areas. You typically got the afternoon storm which could bucket rain on one side of the road and not the other. The sun would come out afterwards.

Hurricane season certainly doesn’t mean you should expect a week and a half of rain. Sorry Op. Any chance of moving accommodation?

nixon1976 · 24/08/2025 23:50

I would embrace the rain and hit the theme parks. They are less than two hours away - easily do-able as day trips. Six days of that would be perfect for teens.

Infracat · 25/08/2025 00:05

We've been in late July early August and it was the same. Would never go that time of year again.

Queenage · 25/08/2025 00:08

Sorry you’re having crappy weather, could you move elsewhere?

ItsMyIssue · 25/08/2025 01:37

Im not justifying why we are here at this time of year, except to say it’s important to my DC. We have been here quite a few time before and never experienced more than an odd few days of poor weather, including a hurricane one year. We are not naive, the locals are also saying it’s unexpected. I was just looking for a bit of solidarity; ‘I’m sorry OP, how about going to….. ‘ so thank you to those posters who did that, rather than those posters who clearly delighted in assuming I am some sort idiot and don’t understand Floridian weather.

Have a day out at Busch Gardens near Tampa - your teens will love that!

Mooflon12 · 25/08/2025 06:42

There is nothing worse than constant rain on holiday - I'm so sorry I hope you manage to enjoy it anyway!

SeaShelli · 25/08/2025 06:49

I've visited Clearwater and other parts of Florida many times, and while it's true that hurricane season is approaching, don't let the forecast worry you too much. Daily showers are common this time of year, but they’re usually brief and pass quickly—often just a short burst of rain and then sunshine again. So pack accordingly, stay flexible, and most importantly, enjoy yourself. You're in for a fantastic time!

Mumofyellows · 25/08/2025 06:56

It’s absolutely gutting to have bad weather on holiday, I have been to Florida in summer and it was as others have described with the storms in the afternoon with nice sunshine either side so you’ve been really unfortunate.

We are off to France on Wednesday for a week and the weather doesn’t look great there either! Make the best of it OP and I hope the stormy weather passes 🤞🏼

Rides close when it rains/lightning in the area so not really worth it unfortunately, unless the weather improves

We've been 3 times in August & only had the short (but v heavy) rain. Can you go to the outlets in Orlando? That's what we do why it rains & it's too wet for the parks (we've only stayed in Orlando so not 100% sure of the driving time)

not sure what else to suggest, I'm afraid, so much is geared towards being outside which is crap if the weather is bad!
