Anyone about? Why has DS food arrived here and not DS? Worried.

Worried about DS19. He and his GF went out last night clubbing. We went to bed as usual and were woken up at 4:30am by a slightly annoyed Uber Eats driver ringing the doorbell delivering food to DS.
DS still hasn't arrived, his food is cold and he or GF are not answering their phones. DSs rings but he doesn't answer.
What could have happened?

Quick update
DS saw my messages just now. He apologised and said they ordered food around 3:30 when they got home but the order was cancelled by Uber 5 mins later so they just went to sleep.

Not his fault at all. Good job I didn't read him the riot act isn't it!

Easily done @NestEmptying when mine were at home and going out until late we had a deal that I would leave the hall light on and they would turn it off when they came in, that way when I woke up and worried about them if the light was off I knew they were in and could go back to sleep.

Who on earth has food delivered at 4am? How very peculiar.

Its not peculiar at all! Lots of people do this after a night out. That's why the delivery man was working!

They are here and I am an idiot.
They were already in and sleeping but did not wake up to get their food. My tired brain didn't think to check his room because I assumed the Uber eats driver leaning on the doorbell would have woken everyone up. Haha! What a palaver.
DD is also fine. I went and got her.
We are having chips for breakfast.
Thanks for the support. x

I love this! This is awesome. I hope the chips were still okay.... A great story for years to come x

It's a sign of the times that you posted on Mumsnet before peaking your head round your DS's door to check if he was home OP 😂. I am glad he is home safely! It also reminds me of when I was that age and we used to buy frozen pizzas on the way home from nightclubs and once left one in our friend's parents oven whilst we all went to sleep. Missing Uber Eats is much safer!

BirdsofBrazil · 24/08/2025 11:13

I am more annoyed at the driver who leant on the doorbell after 5 mins of ringing and no one coming to the door. Just give up.man, no one wants your food!

You are more annoyed at a minimum wage worker doing his job? How exactly is he to know that nobody wants the food that was ordered to your address? And that they won't complain when they don't get it?

BerryTwister · 24/08/2025 11:17

I don’t think the uber delivery man had much choice. I’m sure if he’d returned the food saying no one answered the phone, he’d be told off for not knocking on the door.

I always leave DS1’s bedroom door wide open when he’s out, so I can tell when he’s back. Mind you, I barely sleep when he’s out anyway 🤦‍♀️

LivingWithANob · 24/08/2025 11:27

lol youll laugh about this for years to come! Glad everything turned out ok!

that is annoying though that they ordered it and slept through it and were there all along!

i blame alcohol

It's really not annoying at all. All that matters is that they're fine.

Literally loads of people and not peculiar in the slightest. It’s no different to the local late night kebab shop being heaving after the clubs close which has been happening ever since ever, except you can just get the food brought to you now instead.

I chuckled when I read your update because I could so see that happening.

When my (adult) dc go out, I leave their doors open because then I can immediately tell if they're back/not back if I go to see without disturbing them.

I'm glad they are home. I would be fucking furious with them though over this - ordering food to be delivered at 4am is extraordinarily selfish even if they hadn't fallen asleep and left you to get up. And the fact that they did is even worse. Alcohol and youth is not an excuse. Please read them the riot act!

What an over reaction. It's no wonder that some people have difficult relationships with their adult children when they react like this.

It really isn't. Have you never been on a big night out and got food either on the way home or ordered to be delivered. If people didn't order food at that time of night takeaways wouldn't be open and delivery drivers wouldn't be working. Nothing peculiar about it.

So they were free breakfast chips and kebabs?

Even better!

I'm sure the delivery driver really wanted to be working at that time of day? It's not his fault. It's probably standard at that time of the morning he's delivering to unreliable drunks who need a little more than a light tap on the door.

(I do see that your DS believed his food order to be cancelled but I still think you're being a bit harsh to someone doing a shitty job at a shitty time for shitty pay)
