I’m looking for UK holiday inspiration for 2026šŸ™

Beach? Mountain? Countryside? Historical building or garden? Waterfall? Museum? Gallery?

Where are your most memorable spots?šŸ’›

Love St. Ives šŸ©·šŸ’—

And the crowds!

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 24/08/2025 16:10

The lakes are gorgeous but will be HEAVING in summer holidays.
Cairngorms (not that I’m biased…) a little less busy than the west highland beauty spots, easier walking if you wanted to do some of that, can go via Edinburgh if you wanted a bit of a city too.

Much of the wales coastline is gorgeous too.

Plastictreees · 24/08/2025 16:22

The west of Scotland is amazing - the Highlands and Islands. Skye, Glencoe, Mull, Tiree, The Outer Hebrides… otherworldly beauty.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 24/08/2025 16:23

Not telling.

The last thing they'd need would be to become widely known online and infested with instagrammers and thousands of tourists.

Then why comment at all?

My favourite routes for bike rides are across the Berkshire Downs, often missed by the seaside, the hills, the rivers and lakes people - yet near areas of high population. If I can tie in the A417 through Blewbury, B4494 Chain Hill from Wantage, I'd cut across towards Hungerford, stop in Hungerford to admire the canal (and a sneaky pistachio ice cream from the Tutti Pole). I'd head through Kintbury (pretty), up Ball Hill, through Highclere (tea at the Castle perhaps). I'd cut through Old Burchclere, past Ecchinswell but may take a detour for the views. Finally I'd head into Kingsclere, and up Ashford Hill, through Brimpton, over the A4 skirt Bucklebury, Frilsham (Pot Kiln, nice pub, think it's still there. or the 4 points near Ashampstead), over the M4 then head down into Streatley (admiring the views) back to where I started.

Wow, that is a real bit of locals knowledge!āš±ļø

We stayed in Arran a few years ago and it was absolute bliss - would love to go back.

East Sussex and Kent coast and Sussex Downs. Brighton, lots of other coastal towns and villages. Rye, Hastings, gardens, Chatham Dockyard. Lots to do and probably less busy than Cornwall, Lakes etc in summer holidays.

alwaysstressed · 24/08/2025 16:55

Loch Lomand and the Trossachs are beautiful

I’d give Hastings the swerve .

We have had loads of UK based holidays. Just back from Cardigan Bay, which was stunning, but not many places to visit.

I would second the Lake District. Also just about anywhere in Scotland, but I will give my user name Arran a particular shout. I love it so much it's why I chose it

Yes Arran is lovely - Scotland in miniature!

Mercurial123 · 24/08/2025 17:55

The South Downs, especially the walk from Eastbourne to Seaford, Sandbanks Beach, Isle of May in Scotland for the puffins

Hoping that the comment might result in somebody deciding they won't name somewhere I know about so it doesn't get covered with litter, damaged by cars, used to walk dogs, light barbecues and generally harm wildlife and rare plants, really.

That’s a bit optimistic. I doubt you naming a place you like will result in thousands of people suddenly descending and causing the damage you describe.

SquashPenguin · 24/08/2025 19:09

Brecon Beacons. I’m biased because I live right next to them, but it’s a beautiful area.

Sometimes hope is all that's left. There are plenty of places that end up in this situation, more so since the rise of social media means a large audience/market means that far more than would have visited organically turn up.

EveryDayisFriday · 24/08/2025 19:19

Cairngorms
Glencoe
Forest of Dean
Bamburgh & Lindesfarne
Derwentwater
Windermere
Llyn Tegid

A handful of our favourite spots we've visited over the last year, we go to the lakes often and are currently near Ambleside on Windermere for the BH weekend.

We are so lucky to have some stunning places here in the UK. I'm taking some notes for more places to visit.

And the point of yiur post is what? Hint at your secret knowledge that you’ll never reveal? Show your disdain that places may become known beyond the cliquey locals?

St Ives for me, love the beaches, climate & the light.

Like St Ives but at peak times it’s like London by the sea

Papergirl1968 · 25/08/2025 12:03

Pembrokeshire is like Cornwall
without the crowds. We stayed in a house overlooking the beach at Broad Haven a few years ago.
The area around Aberdyfi, Tywyn, Barmouth is where I want to retire too, and not too busy apart from maybe bank holidays. A bit further north, Harlech is lovely. All of mid to north Wales has the mountains and the sea in close proximity. Caernarfon is not far if you want more castles.
I enjoyed Northumbria too many years ago and would like to return there. I love the Isle of Man too.

mintydoggyv · 25/08/2025 12:06

Yorkshire ,Scotland and the Romney marshes in Kent and Cornwell,

RJ2023 · 25/08/2025 12:23
