What gets worse the more you pay for it?

What products do you think get worse the more money you spend on them?

For example, fancy fizzy drinks don't compare to coke or sprite etc.

I've paid a small fortune for shampoo and conditioner in the past....much prefer the lower range stuff!

Apart from dark chocolate I can’t think of anything.

Sure about that?

Lots of outdoor/hiking clothing brands are very expensive and aren't better than cheap Decathlon stuff. Also merino wool clothing is utterly shit, but pricey.

Fish and chips … I don’t want posh restaurant fish and chips I like the ones from the local chippy wrapped in paper and covered in salt and vinegar!

Crisps - my absolute favourites are supermarket own brand plain crisps (but I’ll try some random flavours too - we were in the lakes last weekend and picked up some interesting ones from Booths, which was a novelty).

Moisturiser - the Simple sensitive SPF works best for me (and DH)

Nail varnish - Barry M is as good as other brands. I paint my nails 1-2 times a week (it’s my relaxation) and it’s never let me down.

Washing detergent - I cannot stand the extra scented ones, and have reached the point of taking own bedding to PiL. actually probably a lot of household cleaning stuff fits into this category.

You ask your parents in law to wash your bedding? If I’ve not misunderstood, where can I sign up? 😂

No, she means the over scented stuff, the likes of bold
i only use eco stuff,, and notice none eco over perfumed

Iocainepowder · 26/08/2025 06:25

BBC.

I never thought i’d be one of those people who mostly watches streaming, but yeah, I now wonder why I pay tv licence for the sake of watching Strictly, Masterchef and the Traitors. I suppose I have to keep it for now for bloody Hey Duggee for the kids.

No! As @Nsky62 says, I meant when we visit PiL I take my own bedding etc, as washed by me in something far less perfumed.

Definitely.

Our council constantly pleads poverty as their excuse for shit services. No, you are run by and employ a bunch of incompetents.

Thank god I got out years ago.

same for civil service and nhs

ExcellentDesign · 26/08/2025 07:03

Agree about:

Crisps (its hard to beat Pringles),
Laundry detergent (Aldi powder is best because it works and is barely fragranced),
Handbags (I can never resist clicking the links on designer bag threads and invariably my response is "really?" but it is just a difference in tastes and I get that others love them)

Not sure about cosmeceuticals, I've tried the snail stuff and it makes no difference whatsoever to me. I accept that the industry has moved on hugely on recent years though.

Mine is breakfast out, you can keep your smashed avo on sourdough, Wetherspoons beats it for me and half the price.

Where i work, definitely the management. Those of us at the bottom are running the place, the top management can't even do the basics.

Strong disagree about chocolate, crisps and shampo (and cheap chocolate is never chocolate.

Totally agree. Paying more for “chocolate “ gets you actual chocolate

And what on earth is wrong with those rich women (and men) to get sucked in by Hermès to spend shed loads of money in order to be ‘offered’ a Birkin. There must be something wrong with them never heard a bigger load of shite in my life

😂

Peanut butter

I bought some expensive organic extra crunchy peanut butter some time ago and nearly broke my teeth on it.

Creu · 15/09/2025 12:40

Not surprised at all. And it isn’t ever salty enough either!
