Migraines can involve temporary vision loss and vomiting. I have no idea if it is this - but just wanted to say, please don't jump automatically to worst case scenarios. You are at the right place for doctors to investigate.

Soontobe60 · 22/08/2025 16:20

It’s normal to lose vision when lapsing into a faint. Feel sick, sweating, tingling lips, seeing stars then blackness. It happened to me many times as a teen.

Fitzcarraldo353 · 22/08/2025 16:28

I was going to say migraine too. Great that you're in the hospital and getting checked it checked out - you did the right thing. But fingers crossed for you both that it's not something to worry about.

Migraine. I was about the same age when I had my first one. I thought i was going blind.

skippy67 · 22/08/2025 16:57

Migraine.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 22/08/2025 16:59

I loose vision when I faint/am feeling faint and my bp goes too low.

HerbertVonDoodlebug · 22/08/2025 16:59

Migraine. Mine started age 11 just as I started hitting puberty- decades later they are still hormonally triggered, though thankfully rarer and milder.

anonymous98 · 22/08/2025 17:02

Low blood pressure and/or fainting seems a likely culprit

CanAnyoneGiveSomeAdvice · 22/08/2025 17:02

no headache and he didn’t faint
just had really bad stomach pain
then went clammy then said he’d gone blind and could only see blackness
then he was sick well bile sick
not proper sick

all these things normal
temp
blood pressure
heart rate

dr said pretty quick it’s not his appendix when he examined he ans although he’s in pain he said he would be climbing off the table with pain

Could be a drop in blood pressure or dysautonomia. The bp drop wouldn’t be obvious unless he was hooked up to a monitor when it happened. As it’s only happened once it could just be totally random. I passed out in the shower around that age, very similar symptoms, it wasn’t a migraine, I just fainted. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It never happened again and no obvious cause. But if it becomes a pattern, dysautonomia/PoTS is something to rule out.

CanAnyoneGiveSomeAdvice · 22/08/2025 17:06

Never happened before
and he really never gets ill or complains of illness
he doenst suffer with headaches or any other medical conditions.

I’ve lost my vision twice before
but only for a few moments
one was due to miscarriage and heavy bleeding and I was also experiencing whistling on my ears

Apparently that is a sign your BP is in your boots

then happened momentarily due to serve trauma

so I don’t think if this could be something that follows in families

but that’s really only happened to me twice in my entire life

My first thought was fainting also. Or a seizure?

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 22/08/2025 17:16

DD has ocular migraines that don’t cause any head pain, but can cause brief loss of consciousness & nausea.

She was sign posted to A&E after a pretty immediate consult with a doctor’s call back via 111, so going to A&E is the right choice.

She still has them as an adult, and although she doesn’t have the traditional funky aura (as I do with my bog standard type), she generally feels nauseous & dizzy, so can take her prophylactic meds & try to head the blooming thing off.

spiderlight · 22/08/2025 17:16

Abdominal migraine? My godson's only symptom for a couple of years in was stomach pain; it resolved into more classic migraine symptoms at the age of around 11/12.

Anxious153 · 22/08/2025 17:17

My daughter has similar symptoms during a focal seizure. She has epilepsy.

TomeTome · 22/08/2025 17:17

Stroke. Burst blood vessel that cleared?

CanAnyoneGiveSomeAdvice · 22/08/2025 17:21

The pain is very low down, I’ve overheard the dr saying to the nurse shall we give him fentanyl

I faint easily. The first symptom for me is my vision going, then my hearing. . If I can sit on the floor quickly I can sometimes head it off. I feel sick for a while after.

Silverbirchleaf · 22/08/2025 17:25

Fentanyl - that’s quite a controlled drug, and I’m surprise they giving that for low pain.

Actually, when you say ‘low pain’, do you mean ‘not very painful’ or ‘pain low in the body’?

CanAnyoneGiveSomeAdvice · 22/08/2025 17:27

Low in the body he’s saying stomach but when he points to the pain
he’s pointing to what would be a womb area on a woman very very low down in the body

surely if they give him that he’ll be all drowsy

It can be low iron too. Or low B12. Unlikely as his age, but I suppose they will include it in the blood tests.

No head pain doesn't necessarily rule out migraine, by the way.

It might be abdominal migraine - when kids develop migraines, it's often abdominal or mostly abdominal.

CanAnyoneGiveSomeAdvice · 22/08/2025 17:31

The dr seems to be asking the nurse for permission for fentanyl
as if the nurse is in charge of the dr

saying something like could make him feel better
and the nurse replied fentanyl makes everyone feel better….. 😮
