Thanks for raising this @MyNameIsX.
Always good to share a good news story.
Days lost to strikes in
2022 2.51 million
2023 2.66 million
2024 733 thousand
2025 only 283k for the first half of the year.

Very pleased to see that FAR fewer days are lost to strikes under Labour than under the previous Tory regime.
Thanks for sharing.

Welcome.

I think the distinction is the level of public sector settlements under this government, and the increase in strike days for the second half of the year onwards.

Even the public sector will not prove immune from Reeves’s inevitable theft in November.

The flags on lamp posts they showed on the news were all half mast, guess the ladder didn't reach

Racists are axiomatically lazy. In fact highlighting that a flag flown at half mast is of the racist variety and one flow properly is of the patriotic variety is a meme that should be circulated.

Efacsen · 22/08/2025 10:38

Read on another thread that the flags are made made of flimsy nylon fabric and disintergrate in the face of a bit of wind and rain

Here's hoping

Sir Keir Starmer is a “patriot” who backs people flying the England flag, Downing Street has said.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman insisted Sir Keir believed that pride in his country was “an important thing” after two councils vowed to remove English or British flags.

It’s a summer recess non story. Once the grey mists settle back in nobody will give a scooby.

Oh great! I and my fellow teachers will go on strike AND close down all the schools for a few weeks too.

That'll go down a storm. But if I drape myself in a flag , it'll be fine.

This.

Starmer could hardly say that the flag hoisters are twits (being polite here) who have nothing better to do. He would be roasted. Best to be diplomatic and wait for them get bored.

Presumably the hoisters will remove damaged or disintegrating flags? I can imagine it would be depressing to look at rows and rows of tattered flags.

Piggywaspushed · 22/08/2025 11:15

Didn't they try already once for a National Day of Action? Tommy doesn't have a job so no one noticed that he didn't turn up for work.

Gin for the garden.

Lots of toilet roll.

Sorted.

The negative newsflow is coming thick and fast, and when the November budget delivers the coup de grace for Reeves, no amount of waterworks will save her.

By all means, make like a large flightless bird, but a reckoning is coming.

DuncinToffee · 22/08/2025 11:40

Didn't you predict Reeves wouldn't survive the first budget?

OP posts:
MyNameIsX · 22/08/2025 11:46

I did, and it was damn close - mind you, I will happily settle for Starmer throwing her under the No.11 in November.

MN is interesting just now.

Some posters are gagging for unrest and turmoil. It is strange. Don't we all just want peace and stability, regardless of political persuasion?

Unless you are Farage or Tommy ten names, of course.

I'm just relaxed and happy that we have four more years of a Labour government. Nothing can change that.

Indeed.

If the rise in racists rabble rousing is some sort of vague strategy, then I wonder who dreamt it up ? Because as a strategy it seems to have overlooked how fickle, and frankly poor at keeping attention the target demographic is. The idea that they can maintain the energy they are currently not putting into finding jobs or advancing in education for over 3 more years seems a little naive.

PickAChew · 22/08/2025 13:10

I spotted my first flags at half mast, today, around a roundabout close to a hostel complex - for homeless people.

Come now, that’s not entirely accurate, is it?

Me too. I’m not going to worry about 2029 now. I might be dead by then.
