Would you mind if strangers stroked and petted your cat?

I go for a lot of walks and love cats, so when I see one I can’t resist calling them over and giving them a fuss (if they come to me that is).

But is this something that would annoy the owners? I don’t feed them.

My cat was super choosy. If she'd let someone pet her it was OK by me.

One of mine is a right little tart, and will accept a fuss from anyone. Little bugger nearly got in the Waitrose van which was making a delivery opposite. Luckily I got her out before she went off on an adventure! Another one is very aloof and choosy but looks very cuddly, he’s a Persian. Will only accept cuddles from me and DS, and they are on his own terms. Third one will have a cuddle, but often nips, so it’s a cuddler’s risk!

Would the owners mind 🤣🤣🤣

The cat owns the “owners”, the cat tells them what to do.

I don't have a cat any more but if I see one, I love it if it allows me to stroke it and if I get a meow, I feel honoured. I love cats, they're the best animals.

If the cat is in a public place then it’s fair game to stroke them. If you don’t like strangers stroking or feeding them, keep them on your own property

One of our cats is a complete floozy and loudly demands his rightful adoration from anyone he can get to. I came home once to him sitting on the back of a plumber who was on the floor fixing our toilet - the plumber didn't seem to mind.
The other two won't go near strangers at all.
I pss-pss to any and every cat I see, including in the cattery when I'm dropping ours off. There's no day that can't be improved with a cat deigning to allow you to stroke it.

Our cat took no prisoners for 90% of her life - try to touch her at your peril, unless you were part of her inner circle.

Her veterinary file was marked “handle with care”. When she started to purr when the vet stroked her, we knew we were getting to the point where we’d have to make a difficult decision.

Our first feline boss was, to use the phrase, a pussy cat when handled - EXCEPT when it was a vet. Then all 20 claws went into overdrive. Poor vet had to wear thick gauntlets, and also wrote 'handle with care' in red on our notes.

Our cat knows more of the neighbours than we do 😂

He’s quite the local celebrity!

I believe my cat has a selection of houses she visits for a rota of strokes.

As long as she doesn't stay there too long, eat too many treats and comes home when called in then all is good. Cats do what they like to.
