Good Morning All! What's everyone doing today?

Good morning from the train home after seeing Fontaines DC with dd1 yesterday! We were, unfortunately, up and out of the hotel for breakfast at 7am so that dd's back to get to work on time.

I'm planning a nap when I get in after seeing every hour from 2-6 am last night <yawn>. It took us until gone 1am to get back to the hotel!

I'm not sure if dd2 wants to do anything after my nap, I'll ask her when I get in.

If not, there'll be washing/housework type things to be done, as always.

I'm having a noodle pot for my tea, but will make something for the girls if they want. If not, it's help yourself to whatever's there!

What about all of you? 🙂

I normally love these threads! I find them so calming and routine.

unfortunately I’m very anxious today … and last night which ment I managed about four hours sleep

we are going abroad in two days on holiday, but I’m so nervous about it. The children have never been on a plane ✈️

it’s been a long time since I have as well - not for want of trying! We have had three abroad holidays cancelled ( two consecutive years because of COVID- both within weeks of departure) and one a few years ago due to a serious injury the weekend before)

so I’m waiting for this one’s issue ! - tbf we haven’t got this close to an holiday departure before 🤣

the wli massive price hike is causing panic- I would have ordered another one before the prices go up - but I dare not because I’m a bit worried about money on holiday (we have €200 a day so we should be just ok and breakfast is included)

daughter moving in to her second year of college- but commutation has been shocking, I don’t know if she has even officially passed her first year/ if she needs to re enroll/ if it needs to be done while we are away ect and it’s difficult to contact them as obviously they are not really available due to the holidays/ part time time table

today I’m hoping to have a quiet day , check the suitcase weights , pack my carry on , one wash load is out . I don’t want to nap because it will only make tonight sleep hard .

I do plan on getting my steps in today . I’m at 133 so far so I have a bit to go 😁

Was this the one in Manchester? My DD was there as well. We live in Manchester and it took her hours to get home.

She had a lie in today but she's on shift as a police officer later.

It's a bit cooler here today so we'll just be pottering around in the garden I think. Lasagne for tea then red wine and a catch up with our favourite Chicago programmes.

MissMarplesNiece · 16/08/2025 12:15

Good afternoon everyone.

I got up very late, for some reason this week I've been so tired and this morning all I wanted to do was sleep. The heat I suppose.

I'm currently eating a plate of fruit which is very juicy and I've dropped orange all down my clean top 🙄.

This afternoon I'm going to visit my sister. She has air con so if it turns out to be another hot day again at least it will be cool in her house.

BunnyLover7 · 16/08/2025 12:56

I had to really look hard for this thread - couldn’t find it for ages but nice to be here & Hi to @lucysmam & everyone. Was awake at 5 again but ended up going back to sleep from 7 til nearly10. This heat is wiping me out! Also still waiting to speak to my GP about my borderline blood test results. Apparently my iron levels are satisfactory so it’s not that making me feel rough. If I don’t hear from the surgery on Monday I will phone to chase things up.
No cuppa in bed so I made one at about 11 & drank it in between hoovering. I even took the settee cushions off & swapped over the seats on “ my settee” but now I can’t get them to fit again 🤣 DH to the rescue when he gets home from work around 1.30! The dishwasher is making strange noises. There is a lot in it this time as we’ve left dirty dishes out longer than usual. Hopefully it’s not on its’ merry way to appliance heaven! It’s very dusty everywhere so I’ll probably do the lounge & hall in a bit. Bathroom needs cleaning too. Keep asking DD16 to shift all her stuff off the top of the banisters. I think I’ll have to give her a time limit & then just bin it as it’s been there for weeks. She did move a massive pile that was blocking the doorway to DH’s office but there are still bags of clothes to be sorted. I thought I had a lot!! She’s been out for a couple of hours & not long got home. Don’t think she has any plans for the rest of the day. I was thinking of going to a small farmers market & asking if she fancied coming but it’s finishing soon & I’m pretty strapped for cash anyway, especially since my sick pay was cocked up 😢 I haven’t had breakfast so will think about brunch in a bit. Quite fancy cauliflower cheese grills with ketchup. DH is making Jamie Oliver carbonara tonight, which I love. Pity we can never find fresh podded peas for it. I’ll probably sit in the garden with my book this afternoon. It’s rare that I read these days. I used to devour books! I picked up the one I’m reading currently at Tescos for a donation. For a change there’s very little dirty laundry. Just draining/spinning a peacock throw that was on my settee. The washing on the line needs bringing in. Not sure what we’re doing this evening. May watch a film. Have a good Saturday all 🙂

OneLilacEagle · 16/08/2025 13:05

Afternoon all! It's hot and sunny here, very unusually, so I'm enjoying a coffee in the garden and curing our new bbq. DH and DS are at the bottomof the road fishing so I'll do a bit of Japanese study next while it's quiet. Not much much planned - we were supposed to visit family but DH was asked to cover an on call shift last minute. Can't say I mind too much as we're all knackered with school starting back. Bbq for dinner tonight. Have a good day.

With Jet2 holidays. Quite expensive but a beautiful place. Not really anything to do with little kids if you're at that stage

I’m shivering in my hospital bed waiting to be discharged. I was up early packing. I just want to get home to my cats. I’m excited to catch up on all my tv recordings tonight.

Simonjt · 16/08/2025 14:03

Morning, well almost…

Both the smalls had swimming this morning, our daughter had her first lesson without one of us in the pool and she did really well. We had to have chips afterwards of course. Our son had his first haircut today, well, first with us anyway, he didn’t look overly sure when it was finished, but its hopefully just the shock of looking different. My husbands taken our daughter to a childrens open day at the fire station, apparently its an activity for her that she’ll enjoy, not for him at all, how selfless of him.

We’re making pizza for tea tonight, so I need to get off my bum and start the dough soon.

I hope you’re all having a nice saturday.

CoastalCalm · 16/08/2025 14:11

Been round the allotment to tackle the weed fest ! Some good progress made - couple of tip runs tomorrow with the weeds needed.

Running a bath then I’m going to go and sit in my new car and figure out how things work while DH watches the match

Laundry and tidying later

Curry and Bombay spuds later from our freezer stash

Crunchymum · 16/08/2025 14:19

Hope you had a brilliant time last night lucysmam?

Busy morning here as all kids were back at swimming lessons - all at different times so I have to do two trips to the pool and it takes the whole morning. Leave at 9.10am for a 9.30am lesson (DC1) Hang around for a 10.15am lesson (DC3) then home for 11.10am and back at the pool for a midday lesson (DC2). The midday lesson lasts an hour as well. I did have the older 2 in the same lesson but DC2 has moved up to a higher level now.

We've had a month off but back to it today.

We did pop to the library and had lunch in the park after and they are just having a run about / play in the actual park before we head home.

It will be a lazy afternoon and I've got washing and ironing to tackle.

Chicken kebabs for dinner (I've got some herby lemon chicken marinating and I put on skewers with peppers and onions and just oven cook). Serve in pitta and we have dips on the side.

Probably a film later and then an early night. We're all shattered after a week of horrible heat.

Natsku · 16/08/2025 14:19

We are visiting my bloke's family. Said hello to the horses this morning, then went into the city and went shopping in a massive flea market, then went to prison island (mini escape rooms) with BIL and his wife, which was very fun. Now we're waiting for the bbq to heat up so we can cook sausages.

Teenage DD has been surprisingly social which is lovely.

Afternoon all.

Missed this morning as had lots on.

Just back from a park fun day with the kids. Was really good. I’m a bit wiped out with the heat though.

DD is away with friends and DS is going to a friends tonight so just DH and I. Not sure what to have for tea. Something light.

Back to work Monday so have few things to sort

lucysmam · 16/08/2025 15:37

I've just got up from my nap...bloody lovely it was too! I'm doing precisely nothing with the rest of the day, I think. May look at some scrap book layouts - I need to start putting the year of gigs scrapbook together since I've procrastinated doing it for 7 months!

@BitOutOfPractice how was pilates?

@SeasalterSadie did you have a good time?

@frozendaisy dd2 will probably have something different for her 18th - not entirely sure what yet. She's into very different artists & never tells me when they're touring even though I'd happily go see anyone with her! She's currently on the look out for gig tickets for September for one of them, but we're struggling to find resale.

@DilemmaDelilah @Rowgtfc72 thanks for asking! Dd's grades weren't quite what she wanted, but she's been offered a place at the uni she wanted to go to, so she's happy! She was going to take a year out but that's all changed now. I need to ring Student Finance on Monday because I can't get into my account, and she needs to ring the uni to sort her accommodation - she can't get onto the portal for that 🤷‍♀️

@Rowgtfc72 we considered Fender tickets too - there were resale when we looked - but it's a race day & dd signed up for the shift ages ago...so 8am train home it was <yawn>. I hope your dd has a ball!

@landlordhell they were ace! Second time we've seen them in a month ish (last time at Trnsmt). Played loads we haven't heard before. Kneecap were surprisingly fun, too! I enjoyed them much more than I expected to (was actually really worried the pit would be chaos, but it was fine). Dd's a bit gutted she went for a spot near barricade instead of going for the venue exclusive shirt though - they'd all gone afterwards. Worth the run for a row 2/3 spot though.

@FamingolosForDays certainly not feeling like one of the kids after bouncing around with them last night 🤣🙈

@mrswhiplington yes, the one on Wythenshawe Park. It took us just over 3 hours to get back to Piccadilly 🙄. We even left the bus queue, walked to Tesco, queued there for ages, & walked back for the shuttlebus...it sat still for almost an hour once we were on it!

@Anotherename I hope you get your holiday with no hiccup 🤞

@EachandEveryone yay! I'm so pleased you're being discharged. Take it easy though...no marathons 🤣

@Crunchymum it was fab, thank you! Your tea sounds lovely 😋

Questions for you OP.

  1. what are your kitties called?
  2. what is Lucy’s sister called?
  3. do you and your husband spend time together?
  4. do you like your new house?
  5. do you visit parents/siblings etc?
  6. how many peg dolls have you now made?
  7. what is your favourite food?
lucysmam · 16/08/2025 16:33

@LoudPlumDog why? A couple of random questions I wouldn't mind but I'm not sure about being interviewed...and I'm not sure why my relationships with anyone matter?

@lucysmam pleased your dd got the uni she wanted. I basically flicked through the Ucas book, stuck my finger in and picked my uni that way. Proved to be the best choice I made!
Dds just rocked up at Wythenshawe park off the shuttle bus. They're staying in a hotel 20 mins out of Manchester so plan is hide in maccies while the queues go down then uber to the hotel.
Secretly think she'd have rather been at Fontaines than tonight.

lucysmam · 16/08/2025 17:05

@Rowgtfc72 the uber might be quite pricey. It was quoting us about £36 last night to get back to Piccadilly. We only paid £12 to get there from Piccadilly! Maccies queue was something else last night too. It still looked busy when we walked back for the shuttle bus. Has your dd seen Fontaines?

DH and I spent 3 hours gardening this morning and got quite a lot done with 3 silkies following us round.

Then went to neighbours birthday garden party lunch and everyone brought homemade food and cakes and we had pimms. Now watching Destination X and DH is having a nap.

DD has been doing her punting job and back tonight before off camping with some friends tomorrow to Peak District. DS has been in the garden and climbing trees and watching Netflix.
