I've finally seen some Yummy Mummies

I'm from NI and I've never really understood posts on here that describe the polished, MC yummy mummies with their perfect crisp white shirts, white Range Rovers and perfect hair that looks like it's no effort. Anyone I know that's fairly MC is very ordinary looking، I've never looked at a woman and felt jealous that she looks absolutely perfect. Women in gym clothes generally look scruffy to me.I don't know anyone who has a Range Rover either, Land Rover yes, but I think I've only ever seen one white Range Rover in NI. That was recently, in Holywood and the female driver really caught my attention for the wrong reasons.
Well, a few days ago I was in Manchester and took a trip to Alderley Edge, and I finally have understood the perfect mummy look! Most of the women looked like Amanda from Motherland, even the ones in gym/yoga attire. I was in a cafe and noticed they all had well defined faces, without the overly pumped up filler/Botox look I'm familiar with. There were quite a few in crisp white shirts (and why are they all blonde, are they all sisters?!) and lots of SUVs were parked on the streets. As per on MN, the DC looked like they'd been dressed from a lost property bin, but hey ho, these mummies don't care who is looking! I was also very pleasantly surprised about the pricing in Waitrose, I assumed it was on par with Harrods'! Maybe people in NI don't care as much about looks, even in the so called MC areas I've never seen this look!

Ha, I live near Alderly Edge and it’s definitely a ‘thing’ round here.

Lots of athlesiure wear, bouncy hair, big sunglasses.

Im about to go on Mat leave and worried I can’t compete!

the80sweregreat · 15/08/2025 12:04

I would struggle with the upkeep and the time it takes to look so groomed to be honest ( as well as the expense of it all )

eggandonion · 15/08/2025 12:12

We were in Hillsborough Castle a few years ago in early September so schools were back. There was an influx of yummy mummies in the cafe. Light suntan and freshly done hair. Expensive handbags...my daughter pointed them out .
I live in the far south of Ireland. I have only seen them here in the orthodontists waiting room and at the bus taking kids to the Gaeltacht!

alderleywedge · 16/08/2025 10:08

@Mushroo ooh what's it like to live there? From what I saw the demograph was either these lovely mummies or 80+ (who also don't look bad!). Are there state schools?
@the80sweregreat I CBA to even try, way to much hassle.
@eggandonion I feel our yummy mummies are just putting on an act. Boden is about as far as it goes, but rarely (if ever) have I seen an Amanda type. Even the horsey set are very ordinary here, deffo not a MC thing.

We saw a group of Yummy Mummies at a NT property the other day. They obviously had far more money than I ever had when my children were young. Beautifully dressed, they had presmably paid the admission fee, all bought lunch and sat around a table feeding their babies who were all of a similar age.

eggandonion · 16/08/2025 10:24

The Hillsborough yummiest all had their hair in extremely tidy bobs that my hair would refuse to sit in. I think their clothes would have come from expensive boutiques rather than Boden. I had never seen them en masse before.
We used to spot the occasional mummy with a prep school child. My kids loved the blazer shorts and knee socks look.
We had a NI yummy mummy at the school gates in suburban Cork. She had a mother's help and was a lady who lunched.

Needlenardlenoo · 16/08/2025 11:14

It may be relevant that a number of extremely well paid Premiership footballers live in the area.

An acquaintance who was a wardrobe manager in a theatre said Alderley Edge charity shops were a fantastic resource for cheap designer clothing.

Mushroo · 16/08/2025 11:47

@alderleywedge im about 20 mins away (less posh!) but its very showy, without there really being much there!

Lots of Botox, hair extensions etc. (the national trust site ‘the Edge’ is lovely.

There isn’t a state secondary in Alderley Edge itself, but Wilmslow High School is the nearest - Matty Healy of the 1975 attended.

Most use the prep school, the Ryleys, where the Rooney kids went, followed by private Manchester grammars for the smart kids, or elderly edge school for girls / Cheshire private schools for more rounded options.

Pedallleur · 16/08/2025 11:56

Southport charity shops also good. Lot of footballers round there. Alderley Edge is yummy central. Prestbury nearby. If it's not a Range Rover it's usually a convertible. Silver or white Mercedes. Never a G-wagon. Husbands drive those. I presume you get used to the life of high maintenance. Nice work if you can get it.

eggandonion · 16/08/2025 12:28

I know a wedding celebrant whose sister lives in Cheshire. She buys her work clothes from charity shops when she visits her sister😀

I don't blame her, charity shops here in England seem to be so much cheaper than NI, where they sell very worn, tattered trousers for £9.99. If I had luggage I certainly would be filling my case.

Well, those are more Nouveau Riche Yummy Mummies. May not be MC at all, just prosperous.

ChariotofDarkness · 17/08/2025 18:38

There's a woman at school pickup that does full face of makeup every day and always looks like she's just stepped off a Zara model shoot. She has inspired me to put in more of an effort

Myblueclematis · 17/08/2025 18:41

I worked with a yummy mummy some years back, in case there was any doubt that she was one, she had a bag with it written on. 😕

smallglassbottle · 17/08/2025 20:16

I live in a poor area and we don't have any at all.

Tutorpuzzle · 17/08/2025 20:47

Avoid Cobham (Surrey). Nobody’s face can move. It’s fucking terrifying.

I recently moved to an area (well it's literally a few streets) that is very deprived and it's very interesting to see how different women in the same outfit can look miles apart. I'm very close to a school so see lots of mums in the morning, and the athleisure look on many of them has a completely different effect. It always makes me think of recommendations in Style & Beauty about wearing certain things to look polished, but there is so much more to it than just wearing clothes!
I'm also close to a grammar school with a prep (and I went to a grammar with an attached prep) and majority of people look very ordinary. No Amandas in sight!

I'm quite sure my sister had a baby changing bag with Yummy Mummy on it. She's lovely and always looks nice, but not sure she fits the Alderly Edge look.

What a horrible thing to write about other women. How dare women look after themselves and not look like they have been dragged through a hedge backwards all the time when they have children.

alderleywedge · 18/08/2025 05:22

And just to clarify, I'm not talking about the Real Housewives of Cheshire look, I mean the very natural, low effort subtle type that looks like they come from generations of wealth, rather than money.

Edited

Oh give over! Its a very specific look, OP hasn't specified either a positive or negative opinion on the 'look', just remarked that she has noticed it.
I don't think any woman who has botox/fillers, regular beauty treatments, driving a range rover wants to fade into the background, they definitely want to be noticed.
There is a massive difference between looking like you have been dragged through a hedge backwards and the yummy mummy look!

And how do you know anyone has had botox or wants to be looked at? I have been called a yummy mummy several times and have barely had a facial let alone Botox,, and don't drive a Range Rover or live in a posh house. I do go to the gym, am not bad looking and have a good job though. It's just envy and insecurity in others.

notinscotland · 18/08/2025 06:33

I'm more mystified by how people here know that these yummy people are in fact mummies - or, I suppose, daddies? Is there really a significantly different look for people from the same demographic and with similar aesthetics if they've spawned or adopted vs if they have not?

cheesycheesy · 18/08/2025 06:35

Mean judgmental post and comments

I'm not jealous or insecure at all, I CBA with any of the effort. And of people read the OP, you'll see I'm talking about a certain look that is always talked about on MN that I can't recall ever seeing where I am
