I've finally seen some Yummy Mummies

I'm from NI and I've never really understood posts on here that describe the polished, MC yummy mummies with their perfect crisp white shirts, white Range Rovers and perfect hair that looks like it's no effort. Anyone I know that's fairly MC is very ordinary looking، I've never looked at a woman and felt jealous that she looks absolutely perfect. Women in gym clothes generally look scruffy to me.I don't know anyone who has a Range Rover either, Land Rover yes, but I think I've only ever seen one white Range Rover in NI. That was recently, in Holywood and the female driver really caught my attention for the wrong reasons.
Well, a few days ago I was in Manchester and took a trip to Alderley Edge, and I finally have understood the perfect mummy look! Most of the women looked like Amanda from Motherland, even the ones in gym/yoga attire. I was in a cafe and noticed they all had well defined faces, without the overly pumped up filler/Botox look I'm familiar with. There were quite a few in crisp white shirts (and why are they all blonde, are they all sisters?!) and lots of SUVs were parked on the streets. As per on MN, the DC looked like they'd been dressed from a lost property bin, but hey ho, these mummies don't care who is looking! I was also very pleasantly surprised about the pricing in Waitrose, I assumed it was on par with Harrods'! Maybe people in NI don't care as much about looks, even in the so called MC areas I've never seen this look!

I'm more mystified by how people here know that these yummy people are in fact mummies - or, I suppose, daddies? Is there really a significantly different look for people from the same demographic and with similar aesthetics if they've spawned or adopted vs if they have not?

Well of course we don't know, it's just a turn of phrase.

I’ve been called a yummy mummy. I don’t have any Botox. I don’t have a Range Rover or live in a fancy house. I just don’t look scruffy and I’m fairly attractive.

And I've no idea what car any of them were driving as they were in/standing outside a coffee shop chatting. I did see a lot of RRs in Alderley Edge though, I very rarely see them in NI and they are usually associated with drugs.

Ha ha, my cousins in NI are all very yummy mummies. Me and mates in SE London are not.

Ha, I live near Alderly Edge and it’s definitely a ‘thing’ round here.

Lots of athlesiure wear, bouncy hair, big sunglasses.

Im about to go on Mat leave and worried I can’t compete!

Please don't worry about it. Your baby (and partner/other family if they're worth anything) won't-all they will care about is that you're happy and that you love them. Think the time I loved mine most was when we were all still covered in gunk from both, or covered in mud after activity days out together. True perfection has to be imperfect, as they say.

I live in Northern Ireland and was once described as a “Yummy Mummy.”

For context: I work full time in a professional role, so if I’m at the school gates in the morning, I’m usually quite put together - crisp shirt, suit, bouncy highlighted hair, the works. I am very slim and might well be familiar with Botox. I live in a fairly middle-class area and, yes, I do drive a white SUV (not a Range Rover though).

But let’s be clear - I am not a Yummy Mummy. I think here in NI the line is so fine that anyone who isn’t in leggings and a hoodie can end up looking a bit “well-to-do.”

That said, I have spotted the real thing in the wild - M&S at Sprucefield is hands down my favourite place for posh people watching.

Also.. I’m currently horizontal on my sofa in leggings and a hoodie and fluffy Ugg slippers.

No hate for the leggings and hoodie.

The word yummy mummy i makes my skin creep.

Where do they live? I've yet to see even one Amanda!

My DC went to a fairly MC primary with parents who were doctors, solicitors etc and whilst they often came in smart work clothes, not one of them looked like they had the MN polish. A few mums I would say were very groomed, but it certainly didn't look effortless, and one even tried to put on a posh accent that she would accidently drop, so they aren't included.

I live 5 mins from Alderley in the countryside - my two boys go to school there (one prep, one state primary). It’s a lovely place to live, safe, relaxed and most people I know are very casual. Yes…lots of RR’s, gym wear, designer clothes but great people. They just have the requisite wealth, genes and time to keep up!

alderleywedge · 18/08/2025 20:25

Should have said, I'm in the legal field and standards are quite low. I was in court recently and couldn't believe how scruffy the trainee barristers were, times certainly have changed!

The genes are a massive factor. No amount of money, tweakments or tailored clothes could make me look polished.

Me neither, sadly! There are some interlopers around that aren’t quite so polished!! 😂

eggandonion · 18/08/2025 20:35

Sprucefield is excellent for spotting terribly nice people in Ulster. The lack of Waitrose means making do with Marks.
Although I once heard the amazing sentence 'If I hadda knew youse didn't know I hadda woulda told youse' when I was stocking up on own brand paracetamol at bargain price.
I like threads on how to look polished. I don't look polished.

Abhannmor · 18/08/2025 20:41

I've just finished Alan Garners beautiful memoir of his working class childhood in Alderley Edge. That place was in his bones. He is its chronicler and keeper of its flame. Not every place is as lucky....

There is a very expensive hair dresser salon near where we live.
Every single woman going in or coming out looks like a film star with absolutely fantastic hair, all different styles but simply amazing (the colour, the style, the health, everything it's magic).
Dress wise they wear all sorts of things, not exactly glamorous, more of an off the yacht floaty silk dresses / denim shorts with white shirt combo at this time of the year.
Not overly covered in make up, light natural looking tan.
And I know what you mean OP about visible facial features, not inflated parts of the face. It's more of an angular sharp well defined face. Like a beautiful normal face would look like. Maybe they do have some touch ups but it all looks very natural. Miles away from the instagram looks.
No idea if they are mummies or yummy mummies. I can't tell what they drive because everyone and their dog seem to drive expensive cars around here.
But it definitely is a certain moneyed healthy balanced stylish look, regardless of wearing smart work clothes, rainy day gear or pretty clothes. I don't think I've ever seen any women wearing gym stuff unless they are on the way to the gym or at the gym.
