I haven’t been abroad in ages but last time we needed something over there it was €€€
what do you take?

Paracetamol, plasters, savlon and Anthisan. I usually keep them in my handbag so that they're on me at all times.

FourBlackCats · 13/08/2025 08:37

Ibuprofen

Gallivant · 13/08/2025 08:38

Paracetamol for the hangovers.

Same for any holiday, anywhere.

notacooldad · 13/08/2025 08:38

@LifeOfAShowGirl
Maybe it’s just me, but I like to have the things I know work for me.
Honestly, I wasnt knocking it!!
I take next to nothing when I go away but buy as I need.

However my 1st aid kit for my ruck sack when I'm in the hills and mou taibs, especially when im with other people is quite phenomenal!!

BreezyPeachGoose · 13/08/2025 08:40

Just pack a large dose of common sense & use Google maps to locate your nearest pharmacy if the need arises.

NecklessMumster · 13/08/2025 08:45

Charcoal tablets for any tummy problems, gentler than immodium for me.
Painkillers, plasters, antiseptic, anti itch cream, insect bite stuff

NeedWineNow · 13/08/2025 08:54

We’ve got a travel medical pouch in the cupboard which I throw in whenever we’re going away. It’s got

Paracetamol
plasters
Sudocrem
Compeed
Boots indigestion tablets
Boots sore throat tablets
Broncho stop pastilles
Immodium or similar
Alka Seltzer
IBS tablets (for me)

The sore throat and cough sweets are for me as I always get a cough whenever I travel.

I also take small bottles of Aloe Vera, lavender and arnica gels.

BourgeoisBabe · 13/08/2025 09:07

Sometimes throw a few paracetamol in. When kids were small brought a thermometer. That's it.

youalright · 13/08/2025 09:09

Depends on if your in the .middle of nowhere or if their is lots of pharmacies close by but as standard I take plasters, paracetamol, aftersun

Coffeeishot · 13/08/2025 09:11

I usually have paracetamol, ibuprofen rehydration sachets and and immodium i have a dodgy bowel so occasionally need them.
Antihistamines and Antihistamine cream.

mumda · 13/08/2025 09:11

devuskums · 12/08/2025 23:55

Ooh and that avon spray that repels mosquitos

Skin so soft?

whiteroseredrose · 13/08/2025 09:12

Paracetamol and Calpol when DC were younger, plasters, now Compeed. Rennies for me. Bite cream.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/08/2025 09:13

Apart from the usual paracetamol, any antiseptic cream, a few plasters, when going anywhere in summer, I invariably take Anthisan, for any insect bites.

Not to mention those sachets for the symptoms of cystitis, having had one holiday spoilt by a dose of it, when I couldn’t buy those sachets anywhere. It was the only time I had to see the GP for ABs once home - the sachets would usually knock it on the head.

Maddy70 · 13/08/2025 09:17

If you need paracetamol etc while in Spain , they sell brands to tourists which ate more expensive. If you need anything ask for genérico. Which is the generic version. Very very cheap
Just take the usual. Anti diarrhoea, painkiller, plasters, anti histamine in case of horrible reactions to mosquito bites.

Yachtingaroundtheworldiwish · 13/08/2025 09:20

The farmacias are better stocked than ours. You can get anything you could possibly need. I would however take a decent mozzie repellent. I like Picaridin, a new deterrent that works as well as Deet but is much kinder to your skin.

devuskums · 12/08/2025 23:55

Paracetamol, ibuprofen, plasters, germoline
Have a good holiday!

Exactly this. I also take travel sickness tablets just in case we decide to go on a boat ride or something. Germoline goes everywhere with me lol

Peaceandlabradors · 13/08/2025 09:31

Ok this is outing as many people I know friends and work colleagues know and have seen these. I appreciate this is probably a bit of an overkill for some people.

We have these tins in each bag both in the UK and abroad like swimming bags, handbags etc
in each tin there is:
burn gel
antiseptic wipes
compeed blisters
compee cold sores
plasters
migraine meds - sachets
4 paracetamol capsules
4 ibuprofen
2 vocal zone (amazing for sore throats!)
2 emergency uti starter antibiotics pill ( went through a stage of a really bad utis so GP suggested I carry them

I have these tins full in each car, travel rucksack, work bag, hand bag, craft bag etc

The kids have similar in their bags but no migraine or utis for their school bags. But on travel they have all of the above pretty much. They aren’t just looking after themselves they look after their friends too.

I have been carrying EpiPens for at least 20 years so it is just the normal for me. Each EpiPen bag has prescribed antihistamines, steroids and two EpiPens.

For Uk holidays and car we have a big first aid kit that I have built up over the years, general first aid eg wipes, plasters, bandages but also tick removal kits, saline washes, tissues, sun cream, wipes, ice bags, tweezers , sterilising tablets etc
The dogs also have a first aid kit including tick removal, saline etc

all of these have been used over the years. I bulk buy burn gel, antiseptic wipes, compeed blisters etc

it has saved our skins numerous times. In Dublin blister packs were twice as expensive as what I pay on a bulk buy and I’ve been in places where paracetamol was difficult to get hold of and like £8 for a pack.

DH was a bit skeptical when I met him (I already had children) but quickly saw how useful it is - they are replaced when used on a daily basis etc I do have accident prone children though, not through their own faults they have hypermobility etc

The children are older now and do the same.

I used to carry a nappy bag thing for each of them (zip bag) with first aid in the car in the boot for each of them, change of clothes, sports towel, wet towel up until they were about 10. Then they took it over. To be honest it’s the norm for us.

I must have offered contents to over 100 people over the last couple of years alone.

I have a manicure set with tweezers and a sewing kit including each bag too. I think I have used the sewing kit like 5 times ever. Manicure sets normally go in the hold luggage and a bigger first aid kit.

What “first aid” do I need for holiday in Spain ? What do you take when going away?
EvelynBeatrice · 13/08/2025 09:37

Very little. The pharmacies and pharmacists there are great.

MischiefandMayhemManaged · 13/08/2025 09:45

plasters
savalon/germolene
wound cleaning spray
blister plasters
bit and sting cream
after sun
a couple of bandages
(if you are a woman - take canasten!! that shit is expensive and can also be used for athletes foot!)
mouth ulcer gel
immodium
rehydration stuff
Ibuprofen
paracetamol
strapping tape
steri strips
micropore

NotMyRealAccount · 13/08/2025 09:50

For Spain, a 16-pack of paracetamol and a bottle of sunscreen. The chance that I might need to go to the pharmacy and buy anything else is very small and I'd cope if I did. If I was going somewhere that used a different alphabet I'd add some dressings, a 16-pack of ibuprofen, and a three day course of an antibiotic to deal with a dose of cystitis.

Nevertrustacop · 13/08/2025 10:09

Pain killers, immodium, temporary tooth filling.

MotherWol · 13/08/2025 10:58

I take a fairly well-stocked first aid kit with stuff for minor cuts/scrapes, painkillers, etc. of course there are pharmacies abroad, but if one of the kids has a minor injury/starts vomiting I want to have the basics to patch them up until I can get medical attention. It all fits into a small zip bag and I’d rather bring it and not need it than be without it and have to try to find Imodium at 7pm on a Sunday.

123456Sh00tingStars · 13/08/2025 11:46

Travel insurance

Eunomia · 13/08/2025 12:06

I definitely overdo this - all the painkillers and sumatriptan. Then all the female specific stuff so canestan, bv stuff, sachets for cystitis. Some plasters and antiseptic cream etc. in my experience dashing to a pharmacy in a foreign country and trying to figure it all out makes having anything ten times worse

mindutopia · 13/08/2025 13:20

Literally nothing other than suncream. Oh, and I’m going through cancer treatment so when I was there recently, I did take cocodamol because I take that at night.

Spanish pharmacies are fantastic and everywhere. I walked a Camino and literally only took suncream and some paracetamol/ibuprofen, just because I’d be in really rural areas during the day so unlikely to be able to get to a pharmacy before it closed.
