Car seat threads. I don’t have children and when I drive friends’ kids around they bring their own car seats. But I find I read the threads which might as well be in Ancient Greek. Isofix! 360! Rear facing! Fascinating, mysterious stuff. I don’t know why I like them so much 😂

OP posts:

Baby names as well. Always get irrationally 😁or 🤔if mine or my kids' names get mentioned. Plus, like to keep an eye on trends. Find it interesting.

S&B. Never post on them but like to keep an eye on trends again. Particularly enjoy spotting an upcoming look and reminding my daughters that I knew about x 6 months ago.

Property & Diy and Home decor - realise there's a theme here - like to keep my finger on the pulse. Not copy but be aware of an overwhelming trend to avoid even though I am an enormous DIY procrastinator.

AI holidays and cruises, especially with big extended family groups. All of these elements I could not cope with for more than 12 hours so it's an insight into another world.

Living overseas - is not going to happen and yet I'm fascinated by how expensive furniture buying is in New Zealand and that their houses are not built for cold weather.

Screamingabdabz · 13/08/2025 20:53

Step parenting too. I couldn’t do it - I’m amazed what people put up with and feel sad for kids caught in the middle of the toxic ones.

The Oxbridge (university?) ones - just in blind hope to see if privilege and blatant snobbery ever goes away. It doesn’t.

The sex board if I fancy a bit of tutting and pearl clutching. Literally. Not a euphemism.

I like the thought of ‘what we’re reading’ but all the books sound as boring as shit.

Loving the Brooklyn Beckham one atm. Don't really follow celebs 😇 so love a thread that really delves into the gory details of a hot story.

Crushed23 · 13/08/2025 23:56

Marriage / divorce threads. Women getting their ducks in a row and leaving waste of space men, instead of subjecting their children to arguments and miserable family life.

I quietly cheer from behind my phone screen.

The ones about Online Dating.
It wasn't around when I was last interested in having a partner and I have no interest to ever date again, but I love reading about how grim it is. Probably to reassure myself if I'm honest 😁

Private school vs. State school threads. So much angst! With the possible exception of the more salubrious parts of Dublin, it's not really a thing here. Most kids just go to their local (state) school.

I aoccasionally read the boards for Aussie, Jewish, Muslim, Black Mumsnetters etc. But I think it would be inappropriate for me to post in those boards, because I'm not a member of those communities.

JoeTheDrummer · 14/08/2025 07:25

The Private vs State ones are so pointless. Just pages of anecdotal posts - “my DD went to private and it was wonderful’, ‘my DC went to state and got into Oxbridge’, ‘my neighbour’s kids went to private school and now they’re in prison’ etc etc. Unless people are talking about the actual same schools the OP are considering, it’s all meaningless.
But I still read them!

I quite like the ambitious work ones, despite being almost at retirement age myself and am very much coasting. I remember a thread from someone saying they were starting a training contract at a big law firm and asking for advice. It was a really fascinating insight into a world I would never be a part of.

The only one I feel slightly smug reading are the Oz posts because life in England is so much better. It always reminds me why I'm glad I'm left.
Love the dogs and cats threads for photos of puppies and kittens and cute stories.
Used to read legal threads to pick out the fake lawyers and pretend senior execs but that's like a bus man's holiday so stopped that.

HectorPlasm · 14/08/2025 17:11

CF ones. I am usually agog!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 14/08/2025 17:39

I'm British but don't live here. My DC are born and raised in Denmark so ANYTHING about life in the UK really. School uniforms seemed completely normal and unquestionable when I grew up and now I think it's bonkers - great concept, but why are we making them dress like 80s businessmen?

Similar to this, I no longer live in the UK and my favourite thing about MN is it allows me to keep up with what’s happening in my home country! I visit once a year, but nothing gives you a temperature check of what’s going on in the country than scrolling through MN every day. 😁

Horseriding threads. I am not sure I even like horses. They are big scary, can kick you to death. Dribbly and bitey looking. Yet the horse threads fascinate me. It’s another world and they just love it.

Is that a polite way of saying we are obsessed 🤣? To be fair we are, you have to be otherwise you wouldn't cope! Horsey people are weird, we accept it and embrace it!

Loving the fact that so many PP have said The Tack Room, greatest lifestyle in the world 😀 I would say hobby but it's waaaay too expensive and time consuming to be just a hobby!

Yes lol. Obsessed. And so many politics, rules and even a seemingly different language. It’s fascinating.

Completely different language. DH just shakes his head in bemusement when DD and I start talking horses 🤣

Anything to do with weddings, MIL, husbands, boyfriends.
I've never been married, never will be. Don't want a boyfriend.
Still read them.

soupyspoon · 14/08/2025 20:03

I read what pops up in Active, so a whole host of things that I have no interest in, no knowledge about, nothing to contribute, no understanding or experience of

I find myself reading these threads and thinking, 'well I never'.!!

RampantIvy · 14/08/2025 21:25

Yes. The wedding threads and anyone with unreasonable family members.

I have never been invited to a wedding or hen do with unreasonable demands imposed on me. At my age I never will.

Luckily, no-one in either family is unreasonable either.
