What threads do you read that have no relevance to your life?

Car seat threads. I don’t have children and when I drive friends’ kids around they bring their own car seats. But I find I read the threads which might as well be in Ancient Greek. Isofix! 360! Rear facing! Fascinating, mysterious stuff. I don’t know why I like them so much 😂

Threads about big extended families, and especially sisters. I’m from an extremely small family, lots of cousins twice removed (or second cousins?) but I only recognise three family members and haven’t seen all the other types for 15 years at least.

Holidays, especially all inclusive package holiday types where it all goes wrong with the DH.

People who got together with their DH very young and haven’t lived without that support. I’ve mostly been single, and when I read those threads it makes me wonder what sort of person I would be if I had that support.

I also used to follow the many threads called ‘what are you wearing today’, and scrutinise the patterns, the skirt length, the colour combinations, the room background, I loved them! They seem to have stopped though :(

Milliejacksonhouseforsale · 13/08/2025 01:25

All of them cats and dogs, horse's.
The ick dating one
Anything really I love all the different views.
We have no pets and happily married.

RockyRogue1001 · 13/08/2025 01:38

Will admit that I'm mainly here for the funny and CF threads
But I'm obsessed by the "help, is he having an affair?/He's leaving" threads

Because i love the support and the op being so broken but then moving on.

I also get a bit obsessed by the work troubles threads

RockyRogue1001 · 13/08/2025 01:41

P.s. I'm also narcissisticly(sp???) obsessed by the "what was your favourite....." threads in the hope I'm on one of them.

To my narcissistic joy, I often am.

Nchangeo · 13/08/2025 01:49

Horseriding threads. I am not sure I even like horses. They are big scary, can kick you to death. Dribbly and bitey looking. Yet the horse threads fascinate me. It’s another world and they just love it.

Justanotherdramalama · 13/08/2025 03:14

Oh I love a good woo thread sadly they are not really a thing anymore. Really enjoy the diy and property threads even though no plans to move and I've never picked up a tool in my life excepfordh

What's for lunch or what's for dinner threads in fact any food thread really, and any thread about losing weight (that one day I will put into practise and actually lose weight)

KateWithTheGoodHair · 13/08/2025 03:27

I often find myself on the conception board even though my 3 are teenagers and being pregnant is the last thing I’d ever do again. I find myself interested in the ‘line eyes?’ threads and whether someone has a slight line on a test. Makes no logical sense why I’d be interested in a complete stranger’s pregnancy test result.

Briantheguitargod · 13/08/2025 07:04

ones about booking/not booking seats on planes.
I have not flown in decades, but find them weirdly interesting.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 13/08/2025 07:08

All of them - I find human behaviour fascinating, especially MN as it doesn’t seem to remotely reflect what I see in real life!

RampantIvy · 13/08/2025 07:12

Temporalagency · 12/08/2025 16:19

Pretty much all of them tbh. But I do find it socially interesting to see what other people think and do.

Me too.

Mumsnet has expanded my understanding of so many issues that other people face, and has made me less judgemental.

Although, I still often read threads and think "why would you do that?"

LastKnownSurvivor · 13/08/2025 07:15

I like the Aussie and New Zealanders' board, even though I've never visited either country - just interesting to read about daily life over there.

Holiday threads - we always holiday self-catering in the UK but I find it interesting to read people's tips for an all-inclusive in Florida etc.

Parenting dilemmas even though I am childfree. Agree with OP that car seat threads are interesting - I can go one further in irrelevance, besides not having children I can't even drive 😄

13SixWeetabix · 13/08/2025 07:19

I agree, I love having a skim of all sorts of threads. Pets, work, family dramas, school, baby names, politics, food, money etc - with a special interest in 'parking', 'mystery', 'righteous boasting' and 'CF' threads. It's the human element, getting that insight into how people think and live, pondering differences and noting the similarities.

TeaAndStrumpets · 13/08/2025 07:21

DramaAlpaca · 13/08/2025 00:59

Yes! The horsey ones! I love The Tack Room.

The dating threads, they fascinate and horrify me in equal measure.

Boarding schools, an insight into an alien world.

Step-parenting. If you take this on, you're a braver woman than me.

Chicken Keepers - yes, really. One day I'd love to have a few chickens.

Baby Names - my guilty pleasure as I love names and I have to enjoy it on here, as R**t banned me from a names board 😅

So many, really. I love an insight into other people's worlds.

@DramaAlpaca I would definitely read a thread about why you were banned!

BendingSpoons · 13/08/2025 07:21

I'm weirdly interested in the weight loss injection ones. I could do with losing a bit of weight, but would not be getting WLIs (BMI too low). I'm interested in how people count clicks to adjust their dosage or get bonus doses and how different people are affected in different ways. I am well informed on something I have no plans to use!

NoraLuka · 13/08/2025 07:29

I love baby names, even though I named my last baby nearly 18 years ago and am unlikely to have another one!

Also like threads about rich people things like private school or nannies or which part of central London to buy a flat. I get really invested and think about what I would do if I were in their shoes.

glassof · 13/08/2025 07:32

I always read the 'dh doesn't help with the baby/house/etc' threads, the affair threads, bad mils, CF are my fave and I love a TTC thread!!
For context, I'm happily married to a man who does more than his share, I like my mil and am not ttc, I have three kids!

This is a great thread!

Okthenguys · 13/08/2025 07:34

Inheritance ones - I get way too invested in the back stories (but WHY is sibling NC? Why was only one sibling caring for the parent? How was the will signed in secret?) and scream at my phone too loudly. Mine and DH parents are very much alive and well and have clearly stated wills that divide everything equally between siblings so why do I care so much.

Also any to do with child maintenance - always amazed and outraged how little the non-resident parent contributes vs how much they think it costs to raise their kids. Oh! And step parenting threads where the step parent is being used as free childcare or an ATM by both their partner and their partner’s ex. Or the ones about grandparents not giving enough childcare. I have never been a step parent, use daycare/nannies, have a great relationship with my parents (and in-laws!) and I’m married to the father of my DC.

Lastly wedding ones where it’s child-free, or some partners not invited, or it’s a destination wedding and some people can’t afford it. I eloped and had exactly no one at my wedding and neither side of the family objected. Not sure why I feel so invested or have such strong views on any of these topics 😅.

13SixWeetabix · 13/08/2025 07:58

Ooh yes, I always click on inheritance ones when I see them. The back stories, the moral dilemmas clashing with legalities, occasionally the prospect of life changing amounts of money being passed around.

I'm more cautious with wedding threads, I do need to spend my limited patience wisely..!

lljkk · 13/08/2025 08:03

parking / legal / neighbour / inlaws conflicts. I can easily park, I have no inlaws & I like my neighbours.
Yet I can enjoy a bit of soap opera...

Most threads really. I'm often interested in seeing the range of opinions but I won't promote my own opinion. Sometimes I'm convinced people are being over-optimistic or misinformed... my interest isn't in correcting their beliefs, but I like to learn how people make decisions. Where do they get their information from and why are they so sure it's correct info.

blackheartsgirl · 13/08/2025 08:04

Oh yes the step parenting ones 😂. I was a step parent for 13 years once and it was hell at times, now I read them and think thank fuck I don’t have to put up with all that shit anymore!

TheNightingalesStarling · 13/08/2025 08:07

Some of the Private school threads. Like "St Lily is 17nins 45 of the bus but they do Ancient Greek, whereas Old Roses is only 16min 50 on the bus but they only do Latin

StrawberryCranberry · 13/08/2025 08:11

Step parenting (never done this) and parenting small children (mine are teens now) - I love to weigh in with my opinion on naps / weaning / when your toddler goes through a hitting phase. I agree about inheritance threads too!

afaloren · 13/08/2025 18:24

Oh, loads of replies! My phone has been on the blink today and wouldn’t load them for some reason.

I also love wedding drama threads and definitely read The Tack Room too! Even though I’ve been married a hundred years and don’t have a horse 😆

Definitely love an inheritance one too even though my family have no money to leave behind. I can get quite het up reading them!

OP posts:
Justanotherdramalama · 13/08/2025 18:28

My nose is bothering me too much now. Going for a wonder over to the tack room 🤣🐎

Threads about religion. I’m a complete atheist. and have been since I was 15, but I was brought up as a catholic and had to do the whole confession / communion / confirmation / catholic schools thing.

I still find religion oddly fascinating, though. In the same way an anthropologist might find the culture & behaviour of tribal people in remote jungles. I’m still trying to understand why intelligent people believe ridiculous superstitious nonsense, I suppose.

It's not superstition...try NDE stories
