Kids water bottles.. the holy grail

Bobnobob · 09/08/2025 17:45

I have been through sooo many water bottles and I am begging for help to find one that will last. Smiggle bottles break sooo easily. I thought I was onto a good thing with ion8 but then 2 cracked within the space of a week.. and then I bought a metal one which is still functioning but got a nasty looking dent within a week.

Needs to be:

  • aesthetically pleasing and ‘cool’ enough for my 7 year old
  • easy enough to open and close tightly for my 4 yo
  • large enough for a days water
  • dishwashable
  • under £20 as they will probably lose it!
  • strong enough to withstand being dropped several times a day
  • leak proof

Lidl sell grey crivit water bottles for £2 that look like Nike! I’ve got a few of those and my 8 year old takes them on days when I cannot strictly check the proper Nike ones in and out the house!!!

I love Owala brand. A little bit more expensive but great water bottles. I use one myself as well. They come in great colours, can take being based around and keep your water cold.

glucagal · 09/08/2025 17:58

Can’t see past the sistema ones myself. They are not completely indestructible but they come pretty close.

Triple Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle with Straw Flip Top Lid 750ml | eBay UK

I've been impressed with these. They come with 3 varieties of lids (one just screw top, one with a click and one with a straw) but they actually keep things cold. I've had mine out all day and the ice still hasn't melted at the bottom.

They do leak slightly though if they're on one side.

If they can keep it upright, Polar Gear or Smash water bottles with straws have been the best for us. They’re pretty cheap in places like Sainsburys or Argos and come in lots of colours

I’ve got a Stanley new from Vinted for around £20. They have a life time guarantee and seem pretty indestructible x

A 7 year old doesnt need an ‘aesthetically pleasing and cool’ water bottle FFS!

Sorry? Why not? She loves rainbows, unicorns, hello kitty.. what’s the problem with buying her something that she likes?

Thanks for all the suggestions! I think I should have stipuled in the OP that aesthetically pleasing to a 7 yo means that is has nice pictures on it of things that she is into. She wouldn’t be interested in Nike or a plain water bottle.

Mepal. My son has had his for 10 months now.

thejadefish · 09/08/2025 18:25

Are you buying the plastic Ion8 bottles? I bought my daughter a pink unicorn insulated metal Ion8 one because I wanted her water to stay cold during the day to encourage her to drink more (she was barely drinking at school) plus it needed to be dishwasher safe and so far it's lasted a year (& counting). There was also a purple and pale green one at the time. Got it off amazon.

Cappuccino5 · 09/08/2025 18:26

Owala! DD loves hers and even I’m a convert

SquigglePigs · 09/08/2025 18:32

We have Antler bottles. Lots of size and colour options. Keeps the water super cold for hours. Dropped, battered and bruised but still going strong.

Fails the dishwasher test though. I think most of the metal ones will and we love very cold water so prioritised that over the dishwasher.

I think it's a false economy buying expensive water bottles speaking from experience. They get lost/dented etc. Take your dd to Asda and let her choose. The cheap onesUnicorns with a straw and flip lip lasted my dd all year although the pictures wore off after a while. They have dogs, unicorns etc.

Ion8 bottles are the only ones that have lasted with my teens

itsgettingweird · 09/08/2025 19:03

Have a look at the SiS ones. (Science in sport).

They are big enough for a days drink and last for ages.

They are softer plastic and designed for sports use to withstand being dropped and thrown around!

itsgettingweird · 09/08/2025 19:04

For pictures just use stickers!

MrsCarson · 09/08/2025 19:08

Our Aldi had them on the isle of randomness they still have them in.

foodtoorder · 09/08/2025 19:13

We are still liking chilly bottles - they do a kids version.

Older child has a John Lewis version which looks different but does the same job.

We have all moved to these - 500ml
for primary school DC and my handbag, 1litre for the older DC and sports. Different colours, patterns, very light, the narrow mouth is easy to drink from and the lid screws on very tight for no leaks.

thismumneedssun · 09/08/2025 19:49

I buy sho bottles for my 5yo, loads of different designs, can buy a lid with a straw for it, they're insulated too so keeps her water cold all day and they never leak. She's had hers a year now, they've been dropped a million times and never broken so far.

legalseagull · 09/08/2025 19:54

autistic with an unhealthy interest in bottles / insulated cups reporting for duty here

ion8 really are very good. We have both the plastic and the metal insulated ones. Loads of patterns, wash well and you can cheaply replace just the lids or even the rubber stoppers if they get damaged.

all metal bottles can possibly dent.

I love my frank green bottles but they’re expensive. You can mix and match lids to bottles and put stickers on them. Mine have lasted years.

NotMeekNotObedient · 09/08/2025 21:20

Kleen Kanteen! They are pretty sturdy. DD is at an outdoor preschool and it's been dropped a lot! I like that you can get different lids as your child grows.
