If you described a baby as Bonny what would you mean?

If someone described a baby as Bonny, what would it mean to you?

I wouldn’t associate it with chubby as others have said. I would say Bonny is a very smiley, cute baby!

Pudding shaped chubber baby - this was defo the kid I had so heard it a lot 😂 it’s a compliment.

What is rude about calling a baby chubby, though? It’s normal and appropriate for a lot of babies to be chubby. It’s not the same as saying it about an older child or an adult.

This is a distinction worth maintaining. Fear of little babies being seen as overweight shouldn’t really be a thing.

Bonny means attractive so if I said it about a baby I’d mean they were cute

DD was described as "bonny" all the time. We preferred "The Tank".

Cute, laughing, glowing with health and life with lovely cheeks and smile. Cutely dressed and clearly loved and cherished.

My grandma used to call me bonny when I was a baby. My mum thought she meant cute, apparently she meant tubby.

I still like to think bonny = gorgeous.

A happy and contented baby that is more attractive than the average baby and has a bit of colour in their cheeks.

Where I’m from it’s always a compliment and means pretty, charming. Someone said it to me once when I’d got in from a cold bright walk. It’s a healthy, fresh look-rosy cheeks etc. If for a baby then gorgeous, friendly, well. Not one of those porcelain doll types.

A good-looking baby, healthy and smiley. Not chubby but definitely not scrawny.

Beautiful. There used to be bonny baby competitions at village fairs, maybe just in Scotland, for the best looking baby. Like a dog show for babies!

Thriving: adorable, alert, healthy.....and fat. (But in a good 'I see they eat well, that must be a blessing' way rather than a 'stop giving that baby Fanta in the bottle' way)

In my mind it comes from a time when a thin baby might not make it, so bonny is good, it says they are doing well.
