Help. Have I actually won some money on online bingo?

Psychicpineapple · 04/08/2025 20:22

I was housebound for a couple of weeks due to illness. I saw an ad for online bingo. I'm not a gambler but I gave it a go out of boredom. I enjoyed it and had a couple of small wins over a few weeks. I logged back in today and had some money left so played a few games and bought tickets to an event.
I didn't fill any lines but I got a notice to say I won several hundred pounds in a runner up event.
I can't say I paid much attention to the rules.
The money is there now in my account.
I never win anything. Could it be a mistake?
Does anyone play online bingo?
Help!

Also had another lot of winnings for £1600 saying runner up I think in total I won £5100,

I’d have been very disconcerted too by that sequence of events but you have the money now and haven’t been enticed into more gambling, so it’s a happy ending.

Honestly if you don't understand the online gambling you're doing, you really ought to stop. It's addictive and gambling can ruin lives.

Thanks for claiming that I was being "patronising", though! What actually happened is that you asked a question, I gave you the explanation and answer. I had the good grace to congratulate you on your win, I don't see what more you could want from me, so to claim that I'm patronising you is a bit odd.

Genuinely, enjoy your money!

You were incredibly patronising. That’s plain as day 😂

TwilightAb · 05/08/2025 08:15

Please be very careful with online gambling. As others have mentioned, these tactics are used by gambling companies to get people gambling and keep people gambling. It is highly addictive and I have supported many people who have developed a problem with gambling which can then lead to devastating consequences. Having a big win early on can be a risk factor. If you feel that it is becoming problematic then you can contact gamcare who will be able to offer you advise.

Seems I’m in the same boat, with the company advising there was a payout error. I won £6000 and I have a feeling they are going to try to say it’s a fault and not payout despite having chosen to withdraw the cash last night. Although the withdrawal can take some time so unlikely to see this but it seems very bad that you can be told you get a runner up prize and split of prize money then for them to take back.
it will likely be in the terms and conditions somewhere

No news yet. Still “patiently” waiting for an email to advise. You?
im not confident they will pay out. There is a clause on their site that says bets can be void even if it’s a technical error on their side. Doesn’t seem fair

Dartmoorcheffy · 05/08/2025 15:01

There are some reputable sites, such as tombola, mecca, double bubble, sky vegas and the sun sites. There are also an awful lot of dodgy sites too.

got an email this morning saying their looking into the problem and investigating they will email me within 24hours. However when I spoke to an advisor the first time asking why my account was shut down , they replied I’ve looked into your account and their just doing security checks but another advisor has said they’ve suspended it as their was a payout error. I’ve been up all night on google trying to see if anyone has had the same problem and all I can see are really bad reviews on Ladbrokes ,saying if you win a large sum they close your account and won’t pay out or say it’s a technical issue! However the only thing I could find on technical issue is the odds can be wrong as in racing bets , football ext nothing with online games and the fact the money didn’t just miraculously appear from nowhere I was actually playing the game and spent money on the ticket and it come across the screen I won and also won on a full house. ( got every number ). I think it’s really unfair what they are doing.
also they said a lot of people including me was paid out in error however I think it’s weird how they haven’t emailed you or shut down your account. Is your money still being processed or ( under review?).

No sorry I should have said, they have shut down my account but I got the same as you. First message said it was just security checks and second said that it was a payout error and the operations team would be in touch.
it does seem very unfair. I was on a complete high last night but shot down when I woke up this morning.
it just kept popping up £1000 as a runner up prize for share of jackpot. It was madness. This is the first place I have seen anyone comment that it happened to them. But I agree, lots saying that they hold back on payments. I just pray we get an answer soon. I didn’t get the money into my account, when I was able to access it, it showed it was going through checks (or something like that) but now I can’t access it.

It’s just so weird as the first payment of £1400 I withdrew straight away and it was excepted and went into my bank account .
then about 20 minutes after I won more!
I did say in my email if it was a system error how comes the games wasn’t shut down or come up with error code as when I’ve played before it has come up with the error code. and i still continued to play 40 minutes after my win.
also i found that the win come through between 20:00-21:00 which was when the prize draw was happening so if your going to win is very likely to win big in that time frame.
in my email I did ask of proof of This so called
”system error” but within their response they totally ignored the question.
I’m going to wait the 24hours and see if they email me with an update if not I’m going to ring the complaints department.
but please if you could , could you keep me updated and I will do the same. Just want to see if they try and tell us something different as then we can both take it further.

Absolutely I will keep you up to date. It’s nice to hear it’s not just me so it’s good to have someone to vent to and hopefully help each other

Thankyou and I was thinking the same lol, all night looking for someone that was in the same boat as me and then I’ve come across you and thought bingo ! 😂😂 no pun intended haha.
just so stressful! Fingers crossed we get some luck.

Daylp1 · 05/08/2025 16:23

One day I may laugh at those puns. Not yet! Lol
My last message said it could take 48 hours for someone to come back to me about it. just ridiculous. Keep me updated. Expect the worst but we will hope for the best

I'm in the same boat @Jodiesky.
Felt it was too good to be true.

Has your account been shut down too?

Phillipsa80 · 05/08/2025 19:19

Same boat... been so angry and disappointed all day. Thought I'd won almost £4000 last night. Two lots of £1980. Did think it may be an error after the second one came in 20 minutes later... but thought it might finally be my lucky night lol...
Withdrew my winnings, went to bed full of glee (already planning a holiday, shopping trip etc) only to find out this morning that it was all a load of shit!! Paid my stake, played the game... there was no technical error during the game... a message at the end said i had won a part of a feature game. I was beyond exited. I thought the jackpot had gone as the game finished in 43 calls and genuinely thought it was a nice share of the community pot they pay out.
Low and behold when I woke up with excitement at 4am and checked my bank, no money!! Logged into my account and they had shut it down... fuming!! I'm on the warpath now. I want proof that it's a technical error, not a human error or ill be reporting them to the gambling commission.. not that I'll ever get that money!!
I feel the pain of all those affected...

i have got back into my account and all payments have been reversed. It advised it was either:
My bank rejected the payment
requested additional documents
asking to verify id
or an amount owed on my account.
nothing about a technical error
I’m on to them now!!

I won £8k on online bingo, I was on a drug for restless legs that one of the side effects is addiction to gambling & I ended up £25k in debt. Online gambling is the work of the devil & immoral, I'm over 5 years clean now & want to stay that way.

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/08/2025 23:08

Psychicpineapple · 04/08/2025 20:24

It's in my bingo account. It says I can withdraw it. Why am I so nervous?
I can't help thinking it's an error.

Withdraw it and enjoy but honestly, shut the account down when you have. This is how people get sucked in and end up in trouble.

Cowparsley1 · 05/08/2025 23:28

Hi OP and others, if they don’t pay out, threaten to (or actually follow through and do it) report them to the UKGC. This (I know from experience 😏 usually gets the funds miraculously put into your bank!

any updates ?

They have now said it was a game malfunction, and payments have been reversed. They advised taking it further will just give me the same outcome.
they ignored all my comments about:
•proof of the malfunction
•if this was the case why wasn’t the game shut down and instead played on for 2 hours
•the reason on my account for the reverse doesn’t state game malfunction it said as above it was down to my bank, or my id needing verified or something like that
•the fact that it stated it was a runner up reward for a share of the prize winnings, didn’t just pop up into my account.
he just say I know it’s disappointing and not the outcome you were hoping for. I’ll do some more investigations today
And sent me over the general terms and conditions of the website.
Fuming doesn’t cover it!!

Psychicpineapple · 06/08/2025 08:08

I haven't heard anything yet. It's very unfair.
The prize notice popped up quickly so I didn't have time to read it properly but suddenly the money was there in the account.
My name is in a list of prize winners.
The money was withdrawable.
How can they have messed up this badly?
So disappointing.
Are you going to continue pursuing it @Daylp1?

As a former online gambling addict … take the money, delete the account, and never go back.
They will try to draw you in … it’s insidious

Ah me too. 😔 It was during lock down, I was addicted to The National Lottery app. The games and the scratchcards. I had to delete the app and block their emails in the end.
