So I have been using shower gel to wash myself with for years and it has only recently come to mY attention to voice this issue and to find out if others too are having this problem....

Every time I use shower gel , which fyi is daily, I drop a substantial amount of It on the shower floor! EVERY TIME PPL!

Is this the same for you too? Is there a good strategy to avoid this wastage and annoyance??? Plz share!

Yes, a bar of shampoo, a bar of soap and a facecloth. I’ve never seen the point of shower gel.

I use bar soap too but I get that shower gel is nice for people as bar soap looks pretty ghastly a lot of the time. And I use liquid soap in the toilets because there is something icky about using soap other people use

If you only use your hand it's not surprising. Just use a flannel, those netting ball things, or you can get exfoliating gloves, those are good. Squeeze it onto that and rub in a bit then start washing yourself.

at uni various people used hands and straight to body, which is omg at best

Why is this omg?! I’m not at uni, I’m a 40 year old woman, I put shower gel directly onto my hands and rub it on to my body! I don’t have an issue with it falling all over the shower tray 😂

If you want to stop using the plastic puffy ball things, you can get bamboo ones these days.

Howdoesithappenlikethis · 04/08/2025 16:50

I think it depends on which brand you buy, some are thicker than others , I tend to find the thin ones do this whereas the thicker ones stay in your hand and are easier to spread over your body. I recommend Nivea body wash for this reason.

I squeeze a bit of shower gel onto the palm of my hand and rub it on all over me (closing the lid in-between times). I repeat as necessary until I am all lathered up.

I've never had a problem with it going all over the shower floor.

African wash nets are amazing, they scrub you so nicely. I rub soap directly onto them.

Isobel201 · 04/08/2025 16:59

I just squeeze bits of shower gel onto my hand and apply it to my body, I've never lost huge bits of it.

I have sensitive skin , soap irritates it

Me too. Then I discovered African black soap and one never been so clean, delightfully smelling (of good natural stuff, not a synthetic smell), and soft. I highly recommend.

i have dry sensitive skin that itches. I use an Oilatum bar. It works.

ForFunGoose · 04/08/2025 17:21

Use a shower gel with a pump dispenser, you can apply a little at a time.

I have to use a pump shower gel as I can't handle a bar very well (RA) plus I can 100% be sure my dc would use it to wash their arses without a care

silverspringer · 04/08/2025 17:25

I am very specific about my shower needs as I am a delicate flower with sensitive skin. There is one body wash I use and I also use a flannel so no spillage. I don’t like the puffy things as they’re too rough (delicate flower) and a sponge soaks up too much body wash.

I also have a separate sponge or wash cloth for my face to prevent any body part/face crossover issues.

I really don’t know how anyone feels clean just using their hand though. I find that weird.

EvilDJ · 04/08/2025 17:29

Not shower gel, I use a sponge or flannel. I can’t seem to get all the dead skin off with just my hands.

However I do lose loads of shampoo and conditioner, it’s better if I use pump bottles but it’s particularly annoying when I’m on the dregs of the bottle.

twilightcafe · 04/08/2025 22:01

If you're going to use an African bath net - please DO NOT buy a cheap one from Temu/Shein. They are fakes, won't exfoliate and fall apart after one wash.

But how is it wasteful?
It’s going on my body!
I buy expensive shower gels, I wouldn’t have been doing this for years if I felt it was all falling down the plug hole before making it to my body.
Ps I buy the cheap original source stuff for dh and ds, they are clowns and would not appreciate my nice shower gels and oils 😂😂
