So I have been using shower gel to wash myself with for years and it has only recently come to mY attention to voice this issue and to find out if others too are having this problem....

Every time I use shower gel , which fyi is daily, I drop a substantial amount of It on the shower floor! EVERY TIME PPL!

Is this the same for you too? Is there a good strategy to avoid this wastage and annoyance??? Plz share!

Never happened to me. I squeeze the head of the shower gel bottle straight into one of those shower puff things. No leakage!

CointreauVersial · 04/08/2025 12:54

Another shower puff user....no spills.

And you don't need to use as much product because it all foams up in the puff. Win win.

I don't normally use shower gel but do have one I was given as a gift which I enjoy. It's in a screw top tube and it's a battle to get the lid back on and the gel in the right places before any hits the floor. I'm glad it's not just me 😄

I've been using liquid soap in the shower for a while now, that's in a pump thingy so is a bit more forgiving.

I have sensitive skin , soap irritates it

I have sensitive skin too and I find that using bar soap and bar shampoo irritates far less than the liquid stuff. I think that they add something to keep it liquid and that causes the irritation. My skin is always super dry with liquid soap.

PluckyChancer · 04/08/2025 13:16

Nope. Never had that problem. I squirt the shower gel onto a damp shower puff and use that.

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 04/08/2025 13:24

FYI you can get the nice olive oil soap in Holland and Barratt.

PrincessofWells · 04/08/2025 13:25

Just turn the water off whilst lathering 🙄

Swirlythingy2025 · 04/08/2025 13:26

i suirt it onto those scrunchy sponge type thingy;s to prevent this

wee tip, use birds

Some gels are more runny than others. I recently tried a different brand and it was almost like water compared to my previous brand which was far more gel like.

Also- the type of container its coming from has a baring. Where you unscrew the lid and pour some out- those ones I find I spill more because they often have a massive hole at the top where the gel comes out from.

A pump or one where you its hanging in the shower, you flip the lid open and squeeze the bottle and put some in my hand- seems to be better.

This has to be a joke.

Are you really telling us that you'd never heard of a flannel, shower mitt or sponge?

Shatteredallthetimelately · 04/08/2025 13:48

Buy a bath/shower scrunchie with a rope attached...

But be warned if it's got a sucker on the rope hold it out the way or when washing your lower leg the sucker thing can get stuck on the shower base and act like you're drawing on an etch a sketch.

at uni various people used hands and straight to body, which is omg at best

3luckystars · 04/08/2025 14:20

Only started using a sponge recently and always used my hands before that

GameOfJones · 04/08/2025 14:26

Another shower puff user here after years of using just my hands but it's much better as you only need to squeeze a bit of shower gel onto the puff as it all foams up so you use a lot less product overall. Plus it's gently exfoliating so kills two birds with one stone.

Just rinse it under the shower and hang it up to fully dry out after each use so it doesn't go manky.

Memorable · 04/08/2025 14:33

I don’t like shower gel. Horrible slimy stuff. A nice bar of soap and a flannel for me. TKMaxx sell lovely soap 😊

BoredReceptionist · 04/08/2025 14:38

I put the gel onto my hand, lather it up and then wash myself, absolutely zero wastage. My husband puts it into his hand and then slaps it straight onto his body, huge wastage, gel all over the floor, I can never believe how quickly he goes through the stuff until I see him using it.

BellissimoGecko · 04/08/2025 14:41

Use a sponge!

I’d recommend an African washing net, it’s so much better than those puffy sponge things and really exfoliates too. Much less waste of shower gel with it

carkerpartridge · 04/08/2025 14:59

I think that lots of shower gels and handwashes have become a lot more slippery in recent years. I tend to use the shower puff thingy these days but if i forget and use my hands the gel always slides off onto the floor.

Noshadelamp · 04/08/2025 15:00

It depends on the shower gel, some are more slippery and watered down than others.

I use a pump and foam it up in my hands straight away before applying.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 04/08/2025 15:01

I use soap in a bar. Always have done. You can buy soap for sensitive skin e.g simple soap.

LadySuzanne · 04/08/2025 16:33

If I get soap anywhere near my face or chest I come out in itchy red blotches.

I use Palmolive Milk and Honey shower gel. I buy the largest size pump bottles and decant to a smaller pump bottle.

As others have said, if you use a shower puff, you need very little gel to form a lather so it lasts for ages. Sometimes I use a Tesco Essentials Soft Sponge with shower gel. I rinse the shower puff out and hang it up to dry and I've never had one go manky.
