There’s always a point to doing the best for your health!

Nevertrustacop · 26/07/2025 20:21

Yes of course you can!

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 26/07/2025 20:22

Please don't think it's not possible to make a positive change at any age! Most of weight loss is down to what you eat. If you can be more active and also do some weight bearing exercise, which is really beneficial for women, as well you'll be grand x

verycloakanddaggers · 26/07/2025 20:23

Yes definitely, good luck!

Jaws2025 · 26/07/2025 20:23

You're only 48 of course you can!

Hitlist · 26/07/2025 20:24

Yes for health reasons if nothing else!

HeidiNotSoHeavy · 26/07/2025 20:27

I'm almost your age and after battling my weight my entire life, I am now in such a great shape that if I was famous, Daily Mail would write how I show off my amazing body. Of course you can.

grootsin · 26/07/2025 20:29

this was 17 years ago. You’re 48 and possibly perimenopausaul and have had a child since then.
Our bodies change as we get older.
I’m interested in how you lost the weight back then?
You look about a size 10 here. Can you aim for a size 12-14 if you’re currently a size 18?
Be careful posting about weight on mumsnet. At best it can resemble a pro ana website.

That sounds fantastic. Do you feel happier and more positive about yourself?

It is harder to lose and keep weight off as we get older. But it might not be as hard as you think.

My aunty is 70 and 11 years ago, coming up to her 60th bday she decided enough was enough and cut out all bread and anything with added sugar completely. She still eats well, but just not to any excess - ever - even on Xmas or bday she won’t have cake etc. Also got a dog and walks loads. And has been a size 10 / 12 for the last 8 years, successfully keeping it off. I think she was a size 18 before that. She says Kate Moss was right all along and wishes she’d done it at 40.

MissionToSize10 · 26/07/2025 20:36

Im 44 and going from a size 18 now 14/16 using diet and mountjaro. Have you considered weight loss injections? Theres a board if its the way you decide to go. Ive lost 2 stone so far

Doyouthinktheyknow · 26/07/2025 20:39

You can definitely lose weight if you want to! It’s harder as we get older but not impossible.

I started this year wearing size 18 clothes, now I’m a small size 12 and so much healthier, stronger and fitter. I’ve lost 3 stone.

I’ve been overweight most of my adult life and I’m now 51. I tried intermittent fasting 16:8 and everything clicked and the weight slowly came off. I then joined a gym which has really been the best thing I ever did. I’m weight training and getting stronger all the time. I’ve transformed my diet and feel so much better for it! The last time I was this weight, I was a long distance runner but I injured my knee about 10 years ago and the weight piled on.

It’s not easy but it’s definitely worth it!

Yes! I feel brilliant. I'm a size 6/8 now and ripped - visible muscles. First of course I can wear anything I want and not just things that best hide the bulk. But also exercise is so much easier - I can even do pull-ups now. Never been able to, even tough I've tried for many years.

Yeah i had 2 kids since then youngest is 9 . So not recent or anything.

Yes I thibk I was a size 10 there. I definitely wouldn't be a size 10 now I just dont think it would seem right for me. I would be happy with a 14.

Definitely peri only good symptoms though less periods 🥳

Although I have become much weaker than I used to be.. I also need to get iron /b12 sorted .

I am pushing 60 and lost four stone on Mounjaro this year. Feel fantastic

spackleplumb · 26/07/2025 20:43

Yes you can definitely do it! I reached over 245lbs at my heaviest and size 20/22. Pre kids I had been a size 8/10 and around 150lbs. I made big changes to my eating habits. I cut out bread, pasta, pizza, cake, crisps, biscuits, dairy and alcohol and I saw results pretty quickly. I lost around 1-2lbs a week doing that and reached my current weight of 153lbs in just under a year. I have since reintroduced foods gradually and have successfully maintained since Autumn last year. I am back to a size 10 and fit my pre kid clothes again which I never thought would happen. Go for it. You will feel amazing and it’s been so worth it. Edited to add my age. I’m mid 40s.

LaurieFairyCake · 26/07/2025 20:49

I’m MUCH older than you and I weigh less than that photo now after losing 8 stone over last 5 years

from a 22 down to a 6-8 now. I cannot even express how life changing it has been for me.

all the conditions I had have ALL gone, all down to inflammation. In the last year I lost the final 4 stone due to MJ and intermittent fasting/prioritising protein.

I look and feel incredibly healthy for the first time in 30 years. Slim, no health conditions.

do it, whatever it takes. MJ costs me £200 a month, I save that in food. Utterly life changing.

LaurieFairyCake · 26/07/2025 20:50

Highest weight 228, now weight 112.

I'm 57 and the slimmest I've been in 20 years (after dieting for a year). Honestly it's like time travel 😄

Keepthecat · 26/07/2025 21:11

There totally IS! Always worth doing something this important for yourself and once you do it, you'll feel great that you achieved it and you'll work to keep it. I did this when I was 49/50 and let it go. Doing it again now, have lost 3 stone 2 lbs (about 20 kgs) and will be 70 next birthday. You can do it and you will be glad you did.
My secret weapons are the NHS Weight Loss app, Brennan's 60 kcal per slice bread and the Hairy Bikers' dieters' books. With a little exercise, enough to take off about1 lb per week, so hopefully no major baggy skin diffs!
Good luck and yes, do it for yourself! X

Becauseurworthit · 26/07/2025 21:12

You can definitely change body shape - started going to Yoga aged late 40's, just kept at it at local gym - even a few months in noticeable difference & I felt/feel I walk so much taller, my waist better etc. Now years down the line, I am happier with my body shape than even my teen years. It all makes a difference. Never too late!!!

Happyhettie · 26/07/2025 21:14

All the comments on here are so positive. I decided today that I feel really yuck and need to sort myself out and start looking after myself properly so I have done a work out video on YouTube.
I’m 46 so about the same age and peri has caused weight gain. Blooming hormones!

Good luck on reaching your target.
