I don’t want to be the naysayer here - this is really just my own hangups, but the thing stopping me from doing the same is the baggy loose skin.

I’d love to be skinny and ripped, and I absolutely know I could do it if I put my mind to it, but I really think it only looks good on people who have been slim all their lives. And it has a chance of working on people up to late 20s or maybe mid 30s who still have the right levels of collagen and skin elasticity.

I just don’t believe it works on people mid 40s plus (50+ for me) unless they are prepared to have boob job, tummy tuck etc to go with it.

I would genuinely LOVE to be proven wrong if anyone can link to something reputable that says otherwise.

( @LaurieFairyCake not doubting you - you might be the exception that proves the rule.)

spackleplumb · 26/07/2025 21:19

@namenamificationI had the same hang up too so I really do get your point. But then a medical scare kicked me into putting my health first. I realised that even if I ended up with loose skin that would be so much better than the visceral fat I had around all my internal organs at the time. I have a little bit of loose skin here or there but only on my bum and boobs, so nothing anyone sees other than my partner and he is just happy that I’m healthy and feeling good again. Don’t let loose skin be a barrier to being healthy, I have no loose skin on my tummy or arms etc despite being mid-40s and losing 100lbs.

Thats great 👍 I cant afford the injections. But i was thinking about double alli tablets.

You might be able to if you take into consideration the discount website and also the reduction in food bill. Works out as around £30 a week. I felt tge same as you but tbh i just thought its not a forever cost and if it means i focus on the weighloss properly (makes you more focussed spending that money) you could be at goal weight in 7 months

Glitchymn1 · 26/07/2025 21:24

48!!! Of course you can, it’ll take some discipline but it’s very doable!
I’ve gone from drinking a bottle of wine a few times a week, maccies, choc, cakes, chips, 5 packs of crisps a day etc to 800 calories a day, intermittent fasting, lifting some weights and I feel better, sleep better. I’m 46. 5ft 6 and size 14. My skin looks amazing, fresh and relaxed. My hair is better too, I’ve had compliments, I’ve dropped to a size 12 (kind of, bit snug still but I’m getting there).
Top tip - massage your skin every night with a good quality oil /cream. Don’t expect instant results either, it will take a few weeks (or it did for me- I almost gave up).

I’ve had help, I’ve bought some high quality collagen (vegan kind) magnesium. Ancient & Brave and Davinia Taylor electrotide drinks and some of the tablets etc mostly for focus.

Good luck, pick a time when you don’t have parties and be expected to drink.

BellissimoGecko · 26/07/2025 21:31

Yes! You can

Doyouthinktheyknow · 26/07/2025 21:31

I have some loose skin but I’ve never been one to show off my body and I won’t be starting now so only DH and I know about my saggy bits🤣
I can say for sure my saggy bits looked much worse when I was inflated like a balloon! I felt like Humpty Dumpty because I gained so much around my middle!

I’ve awful stretch marks from my dc and the youngest is now 21, as well as an abdominal overhang from cancer surgery 20 years ago this year. I see these as part of my story and much as I’d love to have a flat tummy, I know it will never happen and it doesn’t bother me that much, I look much better dressed than I ever imagined I could again.

The driver for me hitting 50 was my health and with 2 terribly painful knees, I knew I had to do something and from a health perspective losing the weight has been amazing. My knees will never be perfect but I can enjoy long distance walking again and I’m working toward being able to deep squat for more than 10 seconds and sit back on my haunches again, things I haven’t been able to do for at least 10 years since my running injury.

There totally IS! Always worth doing something this important for yourself and once you do it, you'll feel great that you achieved it and you'll work to keep it. I did this when I was 49/50 and let it go. Doing it again now, have lost 3 stone 2 lbs (about 20 kgs) and will be 70 next birthday. You can do it and you will be glad you did.
My secret weapons are the NHS Weight Loss app, Brennan's 60 kcal per slice bread and the Hairy Bikers' dieters' books. With a little exercise, enough to take off about1 lb per week, so hopefully no major baggy skin diffs!
Good luck and yes, do it for yourself! X

That sounds positive I have never heard of nhs weight loose app i will take a look.

Yes definitely for myself . I want to like myself physically and feel positive.

What type of collagen did you buy if you don’t mind me asking? I don’t want the animal derivative. Thank you ☺️

Blogswife · 26/07/2025 21:52

Of course you can. 48 is no age. I’m early 60s and probably in the best shape I’ve been since my teens. I love clothes, doing my hair, make up nails etc and feel fantastic. You’re not old until you’re dead and buried. Don’t give up now !

AlligatorTears · 26/07/2025 22:04

48 is no age! You could go another 50 years. Spend it happy and healthy.

I have heard thay once you start on the injections you have to keep them going for a life time? Also if you do stop using them all the cravings and hunger come back really badly . So I was thinking a different route may be better for me ?

I dont think i would save money food wise. I still have to feed 3 kids . I think my eating may become more expensive. at the moment im eating crap and I mean crap. Chicken nuggets fish in batter . Iceland type crap.

Plus I would shit myself trying to inject

Hi @Theposterwithlotsofnames It is never too late and you're never too old to make healthy changes. Achieving consistent and sustainable healthy eating habits will also provide some weight loss. Remember there are no magic bullets and no quick fixes. You might find these threads supportive and give some ideas to meal plans etc. LOSE IT! Juicy July 2025

PS - You look great in your photo and I’m sure you look great now. Get in the right head space and you’ll find you can achieve your goal! Good luck 🤞

You'd rather be overweight than have baggy, loose skin?

The skin won't affect your health or your joints though.

And unless you're determined to wear a bikini or something, no-one's going to see your skin much anyway.

What is the weight loss website?

Pinty · 26/07/2025 22:39

I am 20 years older than you and I am working hard to lose weight because i feel so much better when I am a healthy weight.
It's always worth it will be a lot easier for you at your age than it is for me.

Yes. My health and fitness are fine, I’m just a size 20 when I would prefer the aesthetic of a size 8.

So genuinely the only thing driving if for me is the look, therefore I don’t want to do it if I’m going to look potentially worse.

I fully appreciate that’s not going to be the same motivation for everyone, particularly if someone is having health issues or feels they look bad.

Theposterwithlotsofnames · 26/07/2025 23:54

I just weighed myself up 14 stone 13 pounds. And bmi is 33.7 😭

Regardless that's my starting point . So see how i get on.

Ok but how long do you think your health and fitness is going to be fine for?

Carrying extra weight knackers joints eventually, even if it manages not to affect your heart and blood sugar levels etc.

I'm 56 now and most of my friends are aged between 50 and late 60s, and some are really suffering now due to their weight and the problems its caused.

It's not all about aesthetics. Sometimes it's about irreversible damage.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 27/07/2025 07:50

Lots of comments about baggy skin on this thread. I'm not sure how much weight someone needs to lose for that to be an issue, I associate it with more extreme weight loss than the amounts being discussed here.

(I went from 14st 2lb to 10st 6lb. I need to lose another half stone to get my BMI under 25 but I've plateaued and can't be arsed. Zero baggy skin issues.)

LaurieFairyCake · 27/07/2025 10:06

no, you’re quite right. Of course I have loose skin but in clothes I look da bomb 💣 Grin

I have no intention of doing lifts and tucks, I’m not the bikini type anyway. It’s all about health for me. Can I run, can I dash about being busy? Yep, will my bones get stronger now that I can exercise? All definitely.

i look and feel great 😊

Just adding this to confirm some weight losses on here are fairly big. I’ve mentioned earlier in the thread that my own loss is 100lbs (just over 7 stone as I started at over 17st) So yes a significant loss but not what I’d call extreme, to me extreme would be losing a lot of weight very quickly. I did it at 1-2lbs a week through dietary changes and gentle exercise. I’ve been left with a little loose skin here or there but nothing major at all. But I agree if the OP is only looking at dropping 3-4 stone to around a size 14 then yes she’s unlikely to have loose skin at all.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 27/07/2025 12:43

Sad this thread has gone down the weight loss injections route as, while It seems many people have success on them, they're not necessary. What is necessary is a calorie deficit and there are lots of ways you can achieve that. Perhaps reduce your portion sizes slightly and fill the plate with more veg? If you're eating chips several times a week, have a baked potato or mash or make your own oven chips instead. Make healthy changes without going to extremes. Remember it's taken years to get to the point you're at now and may take a good while to lose the excess weight.

HeidiNotSoHeavy · 27/07/2025 13:26

I have a bit of a wrinkly skin on my stomach, but I certainly prefer that to massive rolls of fat that was there before.
