What do you use after swimming

When I come out of swimming I always feel clamy and not dried properly. The changing room is always hot, I generally don't have a shower as preferably like to have one at home. It takes ages to get my clothes on as it's a faff. I am honestly just a hot mess. Is there a easier way to get organised after swimming?

Have a proper shower at the pool. Wash off the chlorine and dirty water and your skin will feel fresh as soon as you step outside the warmth of the changing room.

TheCurious0range · 22/07/2025 14:00

I just shower at the pool, otherwise you've got to get dried dressed, get home undress, shower, get dry again, dress again and your clothes will smell like chlorine

TheEndlessNight · 22/07/2025 14:07

I do always have a shower after swimming to rinse my body and hair but the shower water is hot and I never feel clean. It is a faff getting dressed then home, shower, hair wash and to be honest I usually just put my pjs on as it's late afternoon or early evening by then.

Loose clothes are helpful. The swimming pool I used when I was pregnant is quite a way from the changing rooms so wasn't too stuffy and has really nice showers and hair driers. Perhaps a change of scene?

Abbyant · 22/07/2025 14:21

I just wear a baggy maxi dress and shower when I get home, I found Terry toweling suits for the children and I throw them straight on after taking their swim wear off but as a plus size woman there isn’t anything like that for me.

Ashb20040 · 22/07/2025 14:22

Talcum powder. Everywhere. Helps get clothes on.

Edited

I have on more than one occasion collapsed in near exhaustion trying to get my skinny jeans on after a swim.

Thank god for the come back of wide legged trousers.

TheEndlessNight · 22/07/2025 14:43

Yes! Trying to get skinny jeans or leggings on is a total huff puff mess 🤣 the changing room is mixed sex and small so I just want to get in and out quickly really. Not sure about the talc idea I would probably end up a white gloopy mess (Ross in friends) I could buy some maxi dresses although trying to get my bra back on is a nightmare! It won't swivel round. I've paid membership upfront but might check out other pools in my area for the future. I really enjoy swimming and find it relaxing it's just the after it that's tricky Confused

Baggy cotton dungarees and a baggy t shirt. Baseball hat for hiding hair. Crocs. No undies. Coat in winter time.
shower and bed once home. But I swim late evenings.

ProfessorInkling · 22/07/2025 14:51

I throw on a towel poncho and flip flops and go home like that. But I do usually swim outside...

AllHoityToity · 22/07/2025 14:52

I have a shower and wash my hair, then I put on a dressing gown. It’s a thin cotton one. Then I use a small towel to dry myself and put on knickers and a Boden jersey maxi dress. And crocs. Then I leave.

I keep the crocs in my car. I keep the Boden dress in my swimming bag and I put it on regardless of what I was wearing before or what the weather is.

ThisZanyPinkSquid · 22/07/2025 15:05

Have a proper shower then dry and put on liquid talc

Headabovetheparapets · 22/07/2025 15:10

Have you considered a dry robe style garment? Game changer for me, they are quite warm, so good for cooler weather. Or a maxi dress/kaftan when it’s warmer.

MissyB1 · 22/07/2025 15:12

I have a proper shower at the pool, including washing my hair. I take nice mini toiletries with me to make it feel a bit better! In summer I wear shorts and T shirt or a loose sundress, in winter joggers and a baggy sweatshirt.

Tuningfork · 22/07/2025 15:20

At last I've found my person!

I loathe changing rooms for all the reasons you've stated. I can cope with any amount of high temperatures, but I really don't do well with any sort of humidity (the current weather conditions are making me miserable), so changing rooms are my pet hate.

I don't have a shower, nor do wear anything on my feet that requires me to dry my feet (I am also extremely squeamish about changing rooms floors...). So, I swim, get out, chuck a towelling Dryrobe on, slip into some rubber flip flops and drive home, straight into the shower and get clean under my own terms!

GameOfJones · 22/07/2025 15:22

I have a proper shower at the pool so take shampoo, conditioner and body wash then stick my hair up in a ponytail. I've got a microfibre towel poncho that reaches to my knees so I just take my cossie off, put my towel poncho on and a pair of flip flops and walk to the car like that. I don't even bother with underwear.

Then once I'm home I'm already showered and just need to dry my hair and get into pyjamas or comfy clothes.

Life is too short for trying to wrestle clothes on after swimming!

I don’t understand talc. If you sprinkle it on damp skin doesn’t it turn pastey?

Oh Lord nothing tight 😂. Baggy trackies and a hoodie.

SpiralSister · 22/07/2025 15:28

Speaking as a regular open water swimmer, not pool, but nonetheless. I think I have got it down.

Dryrobe in winter, towelling robe in summer. Both big enough to get changed underneath, should you be the modest type. Wear your bathers to the pool, with loose trousers and baggy top or dress over. Pair of big soft knickers and bralette that you can step into in bag, along with plastic bags for wet kit. Hammam type towel which packs flat and you can get under robe to dry yourself with. Shower at home.

Natsku · 22/07/2025 15:36

Have a proper shower and then dry yourself thoroughly and change into loose clothing.

No, it turns your skin silky smooth. It would go pasty if you were properly wet but for dampness it doesn't. I use a dusting powder from Lush.

Maxi dress or loose casual trousers and a baggy tee shirt. Proper bra, not an over the head crop top type as they are a nightmare on damp skin. Do it up behind you don't swivel. Crocs or Birkenstocks. I walk home so have to be fully dressed, if I was just nipping back to the car I might not bother with the bra.

If it helps you, I always found putting my bra back on the worst bit because I can only do bra hooks up in front of me then spin the bra around, which is a nightmare if your skin is even remotely damp. Then I read the tip about wearing big knickers and doing the bra up at knicker level so it spins around on pants, not skin and only pulling it up when it is in front again. Game changer!

I've never heard of that. I can only put a bra on clipping it at the front and then swivel it round. Although after swimming it's just stuck and won't budge overmypodge

OK so the consensus is baggy clothing with a bralet thing and also toweling/dry robes. Will look into all of these options. Its open showers so definitely not having a full shower at the pool.

It's like the more I try to dry myself the more damp and hot my skin becomes. The Joy's! Hmm
