What do you use after swimming

When I come out of swimming I always feel clamy and not dried properly. The changing room is always hot, I generally don't have a shower as preferably like to have one at home. It takes ages to get my clothes on as it's a faff. I am honestly just a hot mess. Is there a easier way to get organised after swimming?

I’m going to recommend a front zip sports bra - along with baggy clothing. Harem trousers and a big decathlon shirt are my post swimming attire. The showers at the pool I go to are either the ones you go in before getting into the pool so open to everyone or there’s a single one in the loo that has no door and which looks like a verucca catching zone. I’m going home for showers if that’s the choice available!

Coventgardengirl · 22/07/2025 16:15

I just use a dry robe and flip flops and shower and dress when I get back home

@TheEndlessNight

I have this robe. Bought originally for open water swimming in the warmer months as I found my regular Dryrobe too heavy in hot weather. This is ideal for muggy environments as it dries you as you go along and is nowhere near as weighty as the original Dryrobe

Sorry for the hideously long link.

Oh that looks lovely. I could just fling it on and jump in the car. Also just remembered crocks are recommended on this thread. Will look at them or something similar.

Oh I didn't know a front zip sports bra was even a thing. Thank you. I know what you mean about pool floors 🤮 mines just looks germ 🐛 infested too. Why are pool changing rooms always disgusting 🫣

I like to get home and have a good scrub in my shower and put a hair mask on as swimming makes my hair like straw if I don't keep on top of it.

I bring a second towel. I do have a shower though, but I take my costume off in the shower and have a proper wash, then put my very big towel round me to walk to the cubicle, dry as best I can, put that towel on the floor and stand on it, then use the second towel and get really dry before I get dressed. Our showers are really hot though, I hate it, but don’t have much choice due to when I swim.

the dry robe poncho linked to above- I got a version for £14.99 from Aldi last week . You will get wet car seats as your wet bum will soak through, so bring a bag for life or something to sit on!

RJmama · 22/07/2025 16:40

I’m another who likes to shower at home if I can; the pool I mostly use is open showers and I never feel like I get a proper clean with those.

For disgusting floors though, I have this from Decathlon, a fold-up mat to stand on while dressing etc. I throw it in the wash periodically then.

Oh that looks great to stand on. I usually get dry then stand on my towel.

Loose clothing helps, as does the changing rooms at my local pool being absolutely freezing.

Oh thanks for the Aldi recommendation £14.99 is a great price. Thanks for the car seat tip re wet seats.

You can't adjust the temperature of the showers? That's a bit rubbish. At my pool they're all adjustable so I can turn it nice and cold.
Still have a proper shower in the open showers, wash my hair and use shower gel, everyone does where I am.

Bumblefuzz · 22/07/2025 18:04

I swim every day. If I have time, I just shower, have a quick dry off & throw on a hooded towel (summer) or dryrobe (winter) & some trainers. For days I need to wear actual clothes, I have a hand held usb chargeable fan that has a carabiner attachment and put it over a hook in the cubicle. It's enough to stop everything sticking to you so you can get dressed.

I do have a little fan somewhere. I usually just blast myself with the car AC driving home.

Perhaps you could wear something other than leggings or skinny jeans.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/07/2025 19:06

A wicking type of fabric may feel less clammy than cotton eg an isocool top of the sort sold in outdoors shops. Sandals if the weather allows so no socks.

B0D · 22/07/2025 19:07

if you can, try slowing down your dressing process. I find getting dressed worse when I’m rushing, not allowing time for my body temp to cool after a hot shower, not drying properly etc. I swim fast but am all about the slow life outside the pool

tfu · 22/07/2025 19:12

Things which help are sandals and dresses to change into then you aren’t faffing around with socks jeans etc. I gave up swimming indoors years ago - the changing rooms are minging and too hot always - lucky enough to have several options for outdoor swimming locally.

Proper shower, towel robe, then loose clothes… I have a “I’m going swimming outfit” that was chose for ease of changing!

Hai2012 · 22/07/2025 20:01

I looked like Ross from friends trying to get his leather trousers on when I was trying to put leggings on after swimming. I think I'll use talc and buy a wrap round dress for after swimming

Oh I like the idea of having just one outfit for swimming days.

Good advice, thanks.

I do dry myself all over a few times but the water just pours out of every pore constantly.
